So, beat this for the first time last night. Playing through it again cause I'm an achievement junkie but also because there's like... 20% more game the second time around!

Anyone else playing this vastly underwhelming, but strangely not awful game?

Played the first couple of chapters, and quite liked the combat system. But it spent too long on dismal cutscenes and dull exploration, and didn't let me spend enough time having those fun little battles, so I got bored pretty quickly.

Yeah, I found the solution was to just skip all the cut-scenes. Much more fun that way.

isn't this about chopin or something? how does that play out?

I played the demo; I liked the combat system but correctly identified that I would very quickly get twee-d out by playing the entire game.

I liked the demo, and thought it was something the wife and I could play through (she likes classical music and watching me play rpgs, but has never played an rpg herself). After playing through it, Mordy, does it seem like it would be fun in co-op with a non-action-gamer?

its not a bad game for a non-rpger the combat system is pretty intuitive and there's not a lot of tedious grinding (the game is pretty short) and the game and sndtrk are very... pretty if not overwhelming. its a better xbox rpg than the new tales game anyway.

isn't this about chopin or something? how does that play out?

mostly in the form of ultracheesy puns but chopin is actually a character in the game and there are bonus items you can win for reproducing short pharses from chopin's work.

I might try and foist this on my girl as a followup to fable ii now that she's really committed to an RPG

did you guys play Fable 2 co-op together? how did it go?

Euler, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:39 (seventeen years ago)

tales of vesperia has a decent multiplayer element. otherwise i thought the co-op modes sucked in both fable 2 (confusing) and sonata (pointless)

Lamp, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

y'know I just couldn't get into co-op. We kept trying to go different directions and I got frustrated when she'd keep asking what the buttons did (fifteen hours into the game!) and it seemed like it would just be better all round if I just left her to it.
Fallout/R4 is pretty much owning my game time anyways.

I haven't heard of Tales of Vesperia but I'll look into it. We are so slow at these things, still trying to play through Lego Star Wars 2 together.
