it's amazing, I agree; v. hard tho!!!

subject of controversy tho: the developers took a liberal approach to digital rights management (allowing you to copy one bought vn to multiple computers) for the PC version after consulting w/their audience but recent estimates say that over 90% of PC copies installed are pirated : /

I liked it! It thought it was interesting how they packed so much so content in, so that every level had new ideas - RPS people thought that was the best thing about it, for me it made the game shorter and less satisyfying than it could have been? I don't know, I sort of resent that I was never stuck.

The 90% figure is exagerrated I think but still pretty hugely depressing for an indie game that costs like 10 quid.

Late to this, but boy is it fun! Great for parties and non-gamers!

Damn that's a good price. I kind of want to support the Mac version, though, I'll probably hold off for a while. Really good price, though. Steam is the devil.

That publisher was willing to put up a $700,000 advance and a 30-35% royalty, which was obviously more compelling, but in looking over the contract, they found the publisher also wanted right of first refusal for sequels and maintained the rights to port the game to other platforms (DS, XBLA), and wanted to keep 65-70% of the net profits for shipping and marketing costs.

Instead, they went to one final publisher and said they didn't want to give up their IP rights and wanted $700,000 up front, and asked what kind of royalty they could get given those terms, and were offered 15 percent.

In the end, they looked at how much they could possibly sell on Steam/WiiWare and direct via their site and whether that could beat those rates, and concluded that they'd drop everything and go entirely with digital distribution. His all-caps conclusion to other indies looking to work with a publisher: DON'T DO IT.

I doubt I'll ever be involved in games development, but I did find this info very interesting, if for the sheer fact that pretty much everyone else is too afraid/playing it close to the vest about specific numbers in the business. Probably a smart decision not to sell the port/sequel rights, eh?

I have to wonder if they get even a dime with Steam runs those (wonderful!) insane sales where it drops to $5. Alternatively, maybe that's Steam dropping their end of the cut, though I doubt it. Interesting that Steam was ahead of retail in terms of sales, but still behind 2DBoy themselves in sales! (Of course, Mac/Linux was a good part of that)

Amazon's Deal of the Day is this (well, for about another 45 minutes) for $10, PC and Mac in the retail box. Grabbing it finally.

Just beat the second world - this game is pretty awesome. I feel like every minute I'm playing it, with the lush music and sound effects demented characters and general visual boldness, it's constantly splashing me in the face. Can't even play it for super long periods of time because of this, but it's still great.

OMG, that level with the balloons and the windmills, is probably the most graceful thing ever shown by monitor! Holy fucking shit! Who's with me?

In case anyone hasn't heard, 2DBoy's having a crazy sale until the 19th -- pay whatever you want for the game (PC, Mac and Linux versions).

Considering the manic mousing that the later levels take I don't see how using an iPhone port's gonna make sense, though...
