The Please Convince me that Katamari may somehow make it onto the Wii Thread

I have very little spare money. But my girlfriend says that she'd help me buy a Wii, but only if Katamari Damacy is on it. Will this ever happen?

I didi a little bit of searching, and the outlook I gleaned from various forums isn't good:

"It is a great game!
but the team developer does not like nintendo, only sony!!
But nintendo can make a game with those ideas for the wii!!"

"The creator of the series does not want to make another game, and the official japanese website for the series simply displays a goodbye message and nothing else."

the developper thinks wii isnt that good and he rather make a playground than a game for wii"

But then! There's this news
Just when everyone had come to terms with their beloved Katamari Damacy series fading away, up pops a trio of trademark applications to get everyone's hopes up for a sequel or three. On August 22, Bandai Namco Games filed trademark applications for Beautiful Katamari Damacy and Katamari Damacy Tres Bien, and on September 7, a further application was filed for Katamari Damacy-kun. Of course we know absolutely nothing about what they might be used for - the applications are broad enough for the names to be used in games, TV shows, music, movies or just a simple email. But at least there is hope. Hope for one of the most bizarre characters in gaming to grace our screens again.

January's EGM had a rumor about a Wii version as well, apparently.

its not very likely unfortunately, and even if it does happen it will be at least 2008 when it gets released. if your girlfriend is very girly maybe show her the trailer to MySims?

Hmmm, that's promising. More promising, though, is the prospect of Animal Crossing Wii coming out this year. That could push her over the edge.

Yet MORE promising is the thought that maybe within the next 6 months I'll actually have enough money to buy the Wii by myself, so that I don't have to rely on my just-barely-liking-videogames girlfriend to help me out with it!

Yeah Animal Crossing would be the better bet. If there are any more Katamari games made they wont be developed by the same dude anyway so they are likely to be crap.

In an issue of Nintendo Power, a DS title was mentioned.[16] It was later canceled however in favor of the PlayStation Portable's Me & My Katamari. Although previous announcements have suggested otherwise, rumours have suggested that the Katamari IP may not actually be dead[17]. On August 22, 2006 Namco filed trademark applications for Beautiful Katamari Damacy and Katamari Damacy Tres Bien. Further to this on September 7, 2006 a trademark application was filed for Katamari Damacy-kun.[citation needed]

WindySoft, a South Korean developer, has announced plans for a Katamari Damacy Online game, due to be released later in 2007[18]

http://www.cabel.name/2007/03/japan-visiting-takahashi-talking.html

and at the bottom: The Future, "First off, more Katamari Damacy games are coming! The games are no longer being worked on by Takahashi ("We Love Katamari", the sequel, was as far as he wanted to take it), but Namco is soldiering on without him, and I'm still very excited about what's to come. Look for some new Katamari titles possibly as soon as later this year.

So, Takahashi is now working on something totally new.

What is this new video game project? What platform is it on? When can we see it?

Sadly, I can't say. But, as with all things Takahashi, it's safe to say you'll be surprised, confused, and delighted."

didn't he stop developing games because he wanted to design children's playgrounds or something?

The only thing Keita Takahashi has been involved with w/r/t the Katamari Damacy franchise is the design of t-shirts:

Wii could just make their own title, "Mario Picks Up Garbage."

ohhhhh! don't know how accurate this is but anyway :
"Beautiful Katamari is set to release on October 17th for $39.99 on the PS3 and XBOX 360 and will feature SIXAXIS support for the PS3 version. The Wii version will arrive shortly after on November 14th on the Wii for $29.99

Whoooooa! YES!

I wonder if it will be a new title, or a collection of the first two together? Either way sounds great, since I don't own a PS2 or the Katamari games.

Beautiful Katamari Skips PS3, Goes Wii

The problem with this new Katamari is that so far it looks too much like just more of the same. The charm (for me) seems to be wearing thin. I don't think it helps not having the original crazy creator involved.

But I think the Wii could (obviously) be a good fit - and may give it that something extra. Since they say it isn't going to be a port of the 360 version, it sounds like it's still a long ways off. I wonder if they'll be able to incorporate the online aspects...

there's also this game.
http://www.destructoid.com/de-blob-to-encapsulate-a-wii-near-you-just-not-soon-update--34484.phtml

According to a special preview showing that the guys at IGN enjoyed, de Blob is basically nothing more than a gelatinous extraterrestrial that can take on different colors and paint the world. A world, that is currently devoid of all color at the moment, thanks to the evil (brace yourself for this one) Ink Corp. As de Blob, it is your duty to bring vibrant color back to the city of Chroma, by rolling around the city all Katamari Damacy style, and leaving a trail of hues behind you.

I played the Blob demo. Fun for a while but definitely not Katamari.
