Is it finally easy to buy a wii?

I haven't checked lately, but can you just walk into a store and get one? Because if not, it's been about five months and I can't believe supply hasn't caught up with demand yet...

forksclovetofu, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

amazon.com @ $375 says no
just talked to an old friend out in TX who says they still sell out as soon as they arrive

TOMBOT, Monday, 12 March 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

I saw six or so sitting in a Target last week - first time I'd seen even one going for retail.

two weeks pass...
still hovering around $400 on amazon!

TOMBOT, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

I got a hot tip from a Circuit City clerk on the phone last saturday night, something like "come in tomorrow morning when we open. show up early. Don't call. Just come in."

I got super excited. Then I got conned into going to some Bachelorette karaoke bar party, got the hangover of the century so far, and couldn't stand up until 2pm. So I went on eBay and DS and Mario Kart instead, which satisfied my fix. I'll probably get a Wii in November, when hopefully Katamari will have been released, if the rumors are true (PLEASE be true!!).

no

The richest one percent of this country owns half our country's Wiis, five million Wiis. One third of that comes from hard work, two thirds comes from inheritance, interest on interest accumulating to widows and idiot sons and what I do, video game system market speculation. It's bullshit. You got ninety percent of the American public out there with little or no net worth. I create nothing. I own. And it's not a question of having enough, pal. It's a zero sum game, somebody wins, somebody loses. Money itself isn't lost or made, it's simply transferred from paypal account to another.

jeff, Sunday, 8 April 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

One third of that comes from hard work

uhm

kingfish, Monday, 9 April 2007 06:56 (eighteen years ago)

Did you know that 50% of statistics are made up on the spot?

Z S, Monday, 9 April 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

i totally would have spent tons of money on a wii and games if i'd been able to. now i'm over it. don't think i'd get one even if saw one for sale. nice work nintendo!

s1ocki, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

Still not easy: http://www.freakonomics.com/blog/2007/04/19/we-want-a-wii-still/

schwantz, Friday, 20 April 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

bestbuy getting some soon

JW, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

most stores got around 100 in stock, on sunday. my brother's been calling store to store, looking for one for my nephew. but everyone's already sold out. there was one best buy (paramus, nj) that's closed on sundays, so he called it today. they said they had 5 left, but the line was out the door.

so, in short. it's still really fucking hard to get a wii.

“I believe the Wii will continue strong growth although supply continues to be a problem,” Pidgeon said. “I’d like to see Wii hardware shipping in larger quantities or mass market consumers may cool on it. Having said that, I don’t believe supply will meet demand for the Wii until 2009.

kingfish, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 06:29 (eighteen years ago)

what are the good games for this?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 30 April 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

i'm locked in at home for the next week and i want to get this but i'm thinkin i might just get a cheap PS2 since it has all kinds of games

Tracer Hand, Monday, 30 April 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

i mean forgive me for not getting amped over a game called "excite truck"

i think what i really want is to play the game they show in the wii ads, with the sword - that game looks awesome!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 30 April 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

get a cheap ps2 & loads of cheap games.
the wii won't have many games worth buying till xmas, get one then. theres only 2 essential games at the moment (zelda, paper mario).
the game with the sword? if you mean "red steel" then steer clear of that, its dreadful.

zappi, Monday, 30 April 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

my mii is so much better looking than me

sunny successor, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

haha sunny did you actually wind up with a wii?

the wii apparently got a lot easier to find this past Sunday, a couple of our friends got hooked on one at this BBQ we had on Sat. and then found one at Target the next morning no sweat.

TOMBOT, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

TENCHU FOR WII IS ALL I WANT

Tracer Hand, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

i made the mistake of getting Far Cry. just cos it was discounted to 30 quid. i don't play FPS all that much. but still. it's pretty crap - reminds me of playing a doom clone about 15 years ago.

i need adventures wii ppl. hurry up.

Alan, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

xx-post

no, i made one on my brother-in-law's wii last thanksgiving. the end result implied i think very highly of my physical appearance.

i did get an xbox though. poor betrayed ps.

sunny successor, Monday, 30 April 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

the thing is that i really want to play the next metal gear solid, and that's usually only avail for the PS :/ - i seriously would consider paying the entire amunt for a console just to play that game

OR TENCHU

(or bushido blade)

Tracer Hand, Monday, 30 April 2007 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

Seek: Elebits, Zelda, Wii Sports, Paper Mario

forksclovetofu, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

elebits looks seriously great but the others... hmm

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 12:34 (eighteen years ago)

does anybody here use the smart card to play their own tunes during excite truck? I can't play it with the regular music at all, that shit is horrible.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

elebits is about as fun as cleaning your house

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

Yes Tom, I do! Any recommendations? Nothing seems to 'work' as well as the horrendous game music. The other day I even caught a friend humming it when he thought I was out of earshot. The wii was totally worth buying to say, "Are you singing Excitetruck!?"

Sorry if this reads like the guy from Memento - I am posting on the Wii (as my home computer is broken) and can't read more than my last eight words of text!

melton mowbray, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

u crazy!

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

latest wii news : metroid in august, battalion wars in sept, geometry wars announced. excited!

zappi, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 07:37 (eighteen years ago)

Any news on a rechargable battery pack yet (or is there a third party one)? I've not played mine in over a week because every AA in the house is run down to the point of only working in remote controls, not of the Nintendo variety. I should invest in rechargables and a charger, really.

melton mowbray, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

The most annoying thing, of course, is I can't play VC or Gamecube games either, because you need to press A on a wiimote when the console boots up!

melton mowbray, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)

just get some rechargeable batteries - they're quite cheap.

zappi, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

And a charger! I'm pretty sure the one we've got here has probably had it.

melton mowbray, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

How many Wii points = $1?

John Justen, Thursday, 23 August 2007 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

(I know I could probably just look this stuff up, but I'm lazy and distracted by having a Wii, so take that into account plz.)

John Justen, Thursday, 23 August 2007 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

it's 1=1

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 23 August 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

THAT'S UNPOSSIBLE.

tuesday tuesday tuesday son

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe that over a year later, still?!?

forksclovetofu, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:58 (eighteen years ago)

I know, it's freakin' crazy. Not as crazy as my 60-year-old MOM coming back from something and telling me how much fun Wii Sports was at her friend's house and demanding to know why I haven't gotten one yet.

It's weird.

Also weird, since I was a GameCube owner last generation, to see the complete opposite of what I used to see: no Wiis on the floor of any store I go to, while there are tons and tons of 360s and PS3s (and PS2 bundles, surprised they're still pushing it so hard, but it must doing okay) stacked up in piles all over. Bizarro.

kingfish, Sunday, 3 August 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

I usually do wii bowling at bars to win bar money at least once a week
My friend is the wii bowling DJ

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 3 August 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

however, my stupid wii bowling partner gets angry I get drunk and says I don't do as good

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 3 August 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

finally played one for the first time this weekend - god what fun. i can attest to the girls being good at bowling thing. i also got my ass handed to me in tennis. wii fit is SERIOUSLY good too.

it occurred to me that once everybody has a wii fit mat, there are all kinds of games that could use it. stealth games? skateboarding games?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 4 August 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)
