Sonic Unleashed will be the first Sonic game which I haven't bought despite owning the console. ;_;

The TV cartoons all sucked in their own ways (though the WB aping one with the robot and the robot rooster had its charm), but you could say that for every video game cartoon ever, pretty much. Sonic 3D was a misstep, but easily ignored. Sonic Heroes had some pretty lame elements, but the gameplay was still reasonably fun. Shadow is where things got absolutley irredeemable.

Sonic Adventure was TONS of fun imo, really unfairly overlooked (I suppose being on a failed console will do that); the voice acting was actually ok, too. The Sonic games for the GBA are solid entries if you like the original MD/genesis games (which I assume anyone who likes Sonic does.)

It's really quite baffling to me how Shadow THe Hedgehog ever got made and that there's an actual audience that thinks Sonic should be about angst and big guns instead of tweeness and jumping on robots (the same audience that thinks it's a good idea to have him become a lynchantrope, I guess.) The 2006 Sonic is as crap as everyone says it is, though rich in unintentional humor. But it's still somewhat playeable (not enjoyable, but you can actually get through levels), which puts it above Sonic & The Secret Rings, hands down one of the worst games I've ever played in my life. WTF @ not being able to STOP the damn character, I know Sonic's about speed but this is taking things too far.

I remember a cartoon in which Sonic rapped about how he had a rocket in his pocket and was going to pop the top. ALSO the annoying furry dude I knew in HS drew (terrible) sexy drawings of the fox from the cartoon all the time. SO I voted for the cartoons (having never played any Sonic games).

Through lack of Sonic Adventure 2 option I chose Sonic Adventure. Everyone was forgiving but it was pretty damned clunky.

Unleashed is grebt on the Wii btw, once you get past the boring werehog crap.

btw Sonic Heroes's first boss battle is so incredibly unfair that I stopped playing at that point, so have nfi if the game ever got better.

I've never loved a Sonic game, and haven't touched one since Adventure. But I tried the Unleashed demo the other day, and it's actually really good fun, I was tempted to give the whole thing a try (and probably will do, once I've cleared my gaming backlog).

This makes the shark jumping question kind of unanswerable, for me.

Oh, and how about Sonic Chronicles or whatever it's called? A bioware RPG on the DS is tempting to me, no matter what dodgy licence it's been skinned with.

Voted for Heroes, but really it's such a constant slide that it seem wrong to pick any one title? I remember playing SA1 and being amazed that two thirds of the game was now a clunky (& rly amateurish!) imitation of other titles in genres I wasn't interested in - but it was still enjoyable, the sonic/shadow stages were worth the other crap to get to, so it seemed like a mistake, a silly miscalculation that would be fixed soon; Heroes was when I realised it wouldn't be, that this forever-1998, N64-y plod was what the series was now.

The werehog sections are okay, just shit boring. Also, don't bother with the 360 or PS3 versions because by all accounts they are shite.
