what was the worst shit you played this year?
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)
what was the name of that FPS, timeshift? that was pretty bad.
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)
the sonic demo made me want to vom
I mean this from the bottom of my heart: the single-player of Resistance 2 can suck this dick right chear.

If we're including demos, probably Hail to the Chimp.

why did you hate it so much cobo? i thought it was fine, nothing special but nothing particular blowjobby.
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)
If demos don't count, then Lego Batman.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 31 December 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)
so you... liked the demo, but not the game?
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)
Sonic Rings and NIGHTS for wii were terrible. Spore and No More Heroes were both tremendous disappointments. Wii fit was both one of the best things I played this year and one of the worst...mostly for not fixing some glaring issues, not providing more diversity and for some really dumb additions... zazen, I'm looking at you).

Is Samba de Amigo from 2008? I just rented it for Wii, and the motion detection problems are driving me batty.
― 2 5 (Z S), Wednesday, 31 December 2008 23:25 (seventeen years ago)
Lego Batman I played the game and hated it. Hail to the Chimp I played the demo and hated it.

i think sda is just a remake of the dreamcast game
― has μ answers (Lamp), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:33 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, it is. I used to play the hell out of it on Dreamcast. Somehow, it felt much better on Dreamcast, partly because the controllers were actually maracas, partly because the motion detector wasn't infuriating, and partly because the music was better (or at least, in retrospect it seems that way).
― 2 5 (Z S), Thursday, 1 January 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)
yah i loved the dreamcast game and was happy to see it on the wii not so much now tho...
um idk what the worst game of 2008 was spectral force 3 maybe?

Hail to the Chimp SUCKED SO BAD - gamestop buy back was 2 bucks - I told my wife - 'yeah sounds like a neat concept, but I have a bad feeling - don't buy it" - but honey it's made by a Chicago company - 'oh ok' - we're both stupid and out 50 bones.

unless things radically change as i play it more, Fable II is going to definitely be the most disappointing game of the year for me. probably also the worst one i have played.
― VISION QUEST TO KNOCK YOU UP (John Justen), Thursday, 1 January 2009 01:14 (seventeen years ago)
How far along are you? The game doesn't really start until you get to the Crucible, imo.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 1 January 2009 01:21 (seventeen years ago)
But then again I liked it as soon as I got to the Bowerstone and started blacksmithing, so obviously I have taken to the Kool-Aid.

> why did you hate it so much cobo? i thought it was fine, nothing special but nothing particular blowjobby.
the invisible enemies solidified it for me; they turn the game from a "Holy shit, this game is jaw-droppingly gorgeous and it has an ass-ton of cool-ass weapons" experience into a "okay, I have to learn PRECISELY WHEN to press the melee button to kill the scripted invisible one-hit-kill enemy" experience which quickly transferred over to the scripting of every other enemy I encountered. I have absolutely zero time for games which fundamentally serve as training games for themselves. I'd much rather just jack off.
― jamescobo, Thursday, 1 January 2009 11:38 (seventeen years ago)
the original one-hit-kill
― s1ocki, Thursday, 1 January 2009 18:46 (seventeen years ago)
seriously tho, that was enough to ruin it for you? there weren't that many of them... as for me, after a couple of deaths i learned to listen for the audio clues that hinted they were coming (also they weren't totally invisible)
― s1ocki, Thursday, 1 January 2009 18:48 (seventeen years ago)
the invincible fish dudes were really stupid tho
i should clarify that "worst one i played" should take into account that i haven't taken any hail to the chimp style risks this year, and that demos don't count.
i think fable ii is bugging me mostly because you can just feel the spots where they just got lazy, and things like the vault mechanic work in such stupid ways. i just got to a point where i couldn't jump off the side of a bridge to a path right below it, so i had to walk all the way around and under the same bridge to get to where i was going. lots of just basic problems that seem like they should have been fixed. it is stupid that i am finding treasure chests with less money than i get for chopping a piece of wood successfully a ton of times in a row. it really isn't the game as a whole that is bumming me out, its the feeling that molyneaux just doesn't give a shit about basic details in the game because he's figuring out how to have each tree leaf move individually or how to make the social interactions in this one even more stultifyingly moronic. i am hoping that it improves as things go on, but i get the feeling that all this basic terrain stuff is never going to go away and its going to bug me no matter how good the story might be.
― VISION QUEST TO KNOCK YOU UP (John Justen), Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:30 (seventeen years ago)
as a side note, initially i was thinking that the quality of the animation in this made the super crappy third person view in fallout 3 really embarassing, but all the design quality in the world doesn't change the fact that at least in fallout, the distinction of where i could and couldn't go/jump/whatever made sense.
― VISION QUEST TO KNOCK YOU UP (John Justen), Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:32 (seventeen years ago)
RE5 demo
― cozwn, Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:32 (seventeen years ago)
it really was, mostly because it took me so completely out of the game. I do think cheapness in games can be done right; escaping from the boat at the beginning of CoD4 was cheap as fuck too, but at some point I realized that I was probably thinking exactly the same thing that my character would be thinking in that situation (namely FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK HOW DO I GET OFF THIS FUCKING BOAT FUCK FUCK FUCK). but in R2, I'd just be walking down a hallway or something and then suddenly not be alive anymore.
honestly, if those things hadn't been invisible, I would have found it much less offensive.
― jamescobo, Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
mgs4, gta4, fable ii, smash bros, footie manager 09, fallout 3 all tied for worst shit this yeat.
not even trying to be inflammatory but each oe of these disappointed me in its own stupid special way.

^^ kind of agree with half of that i never played mgs and i liked fallout although it was sometimes a pretty frustrating experience
― Lamp, Friday, 2 January 2009 23:38 (seventeen years ago)
ooh, i didnt play the soccer game either so basically i just agree that gta and fable managed to disappoint me quite a bit the latter much more than the former
― Lamp, Friday, 2 January 2009 23:39 (seventeen years ago)
the Sonic demo wasn't great no. PDC world championship darts sucked too...
