Granted, like literature and music, it's relatively rare to anticipate something that isn't a new version of something you're already familiar with, but goddammit.

85. InFamous (PS3) - the new videos for this look sicker than your average.
70. Yakuza 3 (PS3) - finally, moms can be peacocked in glorious 1080p. I just hope it actually comes out here quicker than the second one.
45. Skate 2 (Xbox 360, PS3) - I am amazingly broke right now, but with God as my witness I'll find a way to buy this game. thankfully, I have a PS3 so I don't have to play other people and go through the agony of publicly confirming how depthlessly shitty I am at skate all over again.
44. Kirby Adventure (Wii) - played the shit out of that last Kirby DS port over Christmas break, so this is pretty appealing.
36. Rhythm Heaven (DS) - it's been an AGONIZING wait already.
34. Heavy Rain (PS3) - I'm still not exactly sure what exactly this game is, but I'm pretty curious about it. it seems to have the aspirations to be this generation's Ico or Out of this World, which is admirable even if it/when it inevitably turns out to be a tedious unengaging pile of shit.
32. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)31. MadWorld (Wii)
YES PLEASE
30. Punch-Out!! (Wii) - as long as this includes Motion Plus Doohickey support this will be fine. without it I fully expect something offensively bad.
29. Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (DS) - obviously going to be the greatest game ever.
16. Assassin’s Creed 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) - I liked the first one a bunch so this one can't come out quickly enough for me. plus I finally get some closure on that amazing ending!!!1!!!!!1!!11!!
8. God of War III (PS3) - HLLYH
3. Guitar Hero 5 (multiplatform)2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (multiplatform) - I like how you managed to break down the platforms for the other 97 spots and then just said fuck it (although MW2 should be pretty great)
also Peggle DS (or ON IPHONE), flOwer, Puzzle Quest In Space, new UFC game and Fight Night Round 4.

I did a long cut and paste job but it got lost in the http send. Bah. In short, DS looks to kick everyone else's ass this year again (Rhythm Heaven is a guaranteed sale), yay for Portal 2, and I doubt Diablo III will come out this year. Everything else that looks awesome on current gen consoles, I'm gonna have to convince my friends to buy (SF IV, MadWorld, etc).
― Nhex, Friday, 2 January 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)
I just pre-ordered SFIV
I didn't pre-order the one that costs £30 more for some fruity little action figures and a soundtrack CD though so that's alright
― Glans Christian Christian christian Christian Andersen (MPx4A), Friday, 2 January 2009 14:22 (sixteen years ago)

wtf people.1) sequels in games are FINE because they make something broken better, usually. haven't we gone over this?2) it's not like he can anticipate next year's equivalent to "virtual silence" because nobody konws abt that shit until it drops!!!!
but seriously how did you get a list of 100 upcoming titles? that's insanity duder

― "80s Baby" (Z S), Friday, 2 January 2009 19:32 (sixteen years ago)
I anticipate discovering if my inordinate childhood love of Bionic Commando is strong enough to help me get over the dumb-ass dreadlocks in the new one.
― GM, Friday, 2 January 2009 19:45 (sixteen years ago)
Right now I'd like another Professor Layton game because I'm almost out of puzzles in the first version.
Scribblenauts could be a winner.
The trailer for Farewell Ruins of the Moon makes it look really really pretty. Also, not on the list, but Syberia and Last King of Africa for DS. Apparently the former is already out in North America although I didn't see it anywhere when I visited my parents during xmas. Yes, I like point-and-click games and I don't mind at all if they're ported to DS. Adventurey games = mega win.
Art for MadWorld looks good but excessive gore and violence means it's unlikely I'll play it.

99. Batman: Arkham Asylum (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)91. Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (Wii)74. Brutal Legend (Xbox 360, PS3)31. MadWorld (Wii)22. Alan Wake (PC, Xbox 360)18. Portal 2 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)14. Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)5. Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)1. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360)
most of the sequels are for obvious reasons. the early info about arkham asylum looks good, but could easily be hatchet jobbed and turned into a pile of crap. fatal frame IV is codirected by suda 51 (!!!) which means it should at least be fucked up and entertaining. brutal legend seems cursed, but hopefully tim schaffer will actually make some money one of these days. madworld will probably actually suck but hopefully sell a bunch of copies so that other developers will step up with games that aren't about petting zoos and save me from using my wii as a doorstop again this year. alan wake is a wild card, but i have a good feeling about it, and sandbox horror done by the max payne people has the potential to be great.

The King of Fighters XII: I have never cared about KoF but this looks TOO PRETTY TO IGNOREI Am Alive: I dunno anything about this? but the wiki entry sounds cool! I am a sucker for apoc/post-apoc ANYTHING.Skate 2: So hyped! This is gonna be WELL fun.Rhythm Heaven: I haven't played engoku, been waiting for this.Alan Wake: Looks cool! I doubt it comes out in '09, though!Mass Effect 2: I liked the first one well enough.Portal 2: WHERE - ARE - YOU - ?Assassin’s Creed 2: Whatever, the first one was GOOD except for the missions. they'll fix that this time or get AWFUL marks/sales. they're not dumb. this will rule.Diablo III: I love co-op PC games. This is the 2009 L4D. If it comes out in '09.Final Fantasy XIII: FF games are so dumb but so playable. I will also get this. :( probably in 2010 when it comes out! oh snap!
― Everyone is a Jedi (Will M.), Monday, 5 January 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)
I cosign this ^^ more or less, except for Diablo which I've never been into and Alan Wake (feels like you could just as well wait for Duke Nukem). And I have mixed feelings about the new FF but who doesn't. I'll definitely keep an eye on the sequels to Beyond Good & Evil and Mafia, both well-rated but a little unappreciated games I guess.
No matter what the 08 gaming year was a big disaster for me personally, with GTA4 stealing the little time and money I felt I could spare, so I'm really looking forward to start fresh in 09.
― sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)
oh! I didn't even notice Beyond Good and Evil 2 in the list. I liked the first one a lot, but the sneaking around thing got really tiring near the end and I got stuck at a bit with a bunch of air-tank guards so I never actually finished the game.

70. Yakuza 3 (PS3) - just announced that it's set for release next March, aka the same month as GoW3/GT5/FF13; I eagerly look forward to being the only person on earth who actually buys this at release.
45. Skate 2 (Xbox 360, PS3) - this owns so hard but some of the one-on-one challenges are insanely hard. also the move-shit-around feature turned out to be kinda boring.
44. Kirby Adventure (Wii) - will this ever come out ffs
36. Rhythm Heaven (DS) - turned out to be a pretty good game with an uncompromisingly great GBA version
34. Heavy Rain (PS3) - another one set for next
32. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) - strong contender for best title of this generation imo
31. MadWorld (Wii) - this was my goty for a couple of months and then I just fell off it entirely. still looks great but I played it a little recently and it's just so samey
30. Punch-Out!! (Wii) - still haven't picked this up yet
29. Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (DS) - anyone who doesn't like this game should be drowned in a bathtub full of their own shit
16. Assassin’s Creed 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) - still haven't picked this up
8. God of War III (PS3) - I hated GoW1 so much on replaying it that I am now officially off the whole franchise, so I'll be taking a pass on this
3. Guitar Hero 5 (multiplatform) - thanks to a combination of personal poorness and industrial overexposure I feel pretty confident that I'm over Big Plastic Doohickey Gaming once and for all now
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (multiplatform) - still haven't even picked up my free copy from work yet. what can I say? it's no Big Word Puzzle Book.
also Peggle DS (or ON IPHONE), flOwer, Puzzle Quest In Space, new UFC game and Fight Night Round 4
Peggle DS was fun as fuck, I liked Flower, never played either of the Puzzle Quest pretenders to the throne, liked the demo for UFC but can't find a cheap copy, and FNR4 - while awesome - ultimately isn't as much fun as R3 for some reason I haven't been able to pin down yet.
