ledge, Monday, 27 October 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

Come to think of it, Amstrad owners have been very quiet on ILG. There's been plenty of shouts from the Speccy/Beeb/Commie crews (FFS I am turning into Tim Westwood...), but nothing from CPC owners. Maybe they are still getting their crappy tape drives and 3" floppies to work...

snoball, Monday, 27 October 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

(xpost) fear the colour attribute clash...

snoball, Monday, 27 October 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

I remember me and my mate typing in the first program on his new Spectrum, which showed a bus made of lo-res graphics moving from one side of the screen to the other.

And then we played Horace Goes Skiing all day

Super Hang On was a great game on the speccy!

Ant Attack |=| (Ste), Monday, 27 October 2008 10:32 (seventeen years ago)

I thoroughly recommend a game called Rescue, a budget offering iirc (it's the one with the green spaceship graphics).

You run around a spaceship trying to rescue scientists, and their work, take them back to your docked ship, then you have to get all the fuel, all the while avoiding and killing johnny five type robots.

I finished it so many times, but also spent a lot of time constructing 'dens' out of boxes and seeing how long it would be before the robots came and got me.

oh and press 'break' (spacebar?) on the menu screen for something perculiar

Ant Attack |=| (Ste), Monday, 27 October 2008 11:11 (seventeen years ago)

ledge, seriously you've never played what was probably *the* best version of R-Type on home computers? It was even better than the amiga translation.

Ant Attack |=| (Ste), Monday, 27 October 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

nah it was homegrown speccy shooters only for me. zynaps, lightforce, sidewize, crosswize...

ledge, Monday, 27 October 2008 11:20 (seventeen years ago)

incidentally i found a nice one-page speccy nostalgia archive: http://zxds.raxoft.cz/games.html

ledge, Monday, 27 October 2008 11:21 (seventeen years ago)

wtf this crazy shit? http://zxds.raxoft.cz/screens/games/extreme_2.png

ledge, Monday, 27 October 2008 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

not sure i ever really played the arcade version of r-type even. hangin' round in arcades was not a big part of my youth.

ledge, Monday, 27 October 2008 11:25 (seventeen years ago)

Lightforce - another great one

remorseful prober (grimly fiendish), Monday, 27 October 2008 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

I once tried to charter every game in the Spectrum archive, attempting to complete them all for my blog. I managed to complete "007: Licence to Kill" and then gave up on "007: Live and Let Die"

and that was the end of that particular project.

Ant Attack |=| (Ste), Monday, 27 October 2008 13:27 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Monday, 27 October 2008 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 12:35 (seventeen years ago)

anyone help me track a speccy game ?

trying to recall a game that was similar to Alien breed, ie top down space ship corridors exploring shoot aliens type game (eagles nest etc)

i think i got it free with a magazine too, that's not to say it wasn't originally a full priced offering (and i'm sure it was)

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 15 May 2009 09:19 (seventeen years ago)

Feeling this.

We should wrestle with all these horrible unplayable lookalike games some more on here.

Dom P's Rusty Nuts (Noodle Vague), Friday, 15 May 2009 10:32 (seventeen years ago)
