II. STORY
=============================================================================
(from instruction manual)
"I will destroy you, Faryan..."
But in order to get to Faryan, you've got to battle your way past his army of
death slaves. Nothing in Faryan's New World can be taken for granted - evil
lurks everywhere. There are five levels you must clear in order to reach
Faryan. Easier said than done - each level is protected by one of Faryan's
Level Bosses. And they get gnarlier as you go along. But you've been
granted powers of the Great Spirit, War Wolf. You know what you must do.
The time has come to live your vision. Destroy Faryan.
=============================================================================
III. CONTROLS
=============================================================================
Basic controls (for all forms)
------------------------------
Up : climb up ladder
Down : crouch, climb down ladder
Left : move left
Right : move right
B : jump
A : punch, use power ray attack (hold button down and release)
Select : display score (while game is paused)
Start : start game, pause/resume game
Up + B : high jump
Up + A : attack upward (while jumping and only as a werewolf)

Down + Left : move left while crouching
Down + Right: move right while crouching
Human form
----------
Power Ray: Unleash the strength of the Great Spirit within you to shoot a
power ray aka the "NOOO!" attack at your enemies. To let fly the power ray,
hold down the A button until you glow. Now release the button to attack with
it.
Werewolf / Super Werewolf form
------------------------------
Back-Flips: As a werewolf, you may use your speed and strength to do back-
flips that will make you invulnerable to all attacks. Press both the A and B
buttons simultaneously to perform a backflip. You can also press and hold
either the A or B button and press the other button, A or B, to backflip.
Ceiling Walking: You can use your claw blades to hang and move on ceilings.
This will enable you to cross certain pits. To grab onto the ceiling, you
must first jump. Then press UP and A simultaneously just as you reach the
height of your jump and are about to fall to latch onto the ceiling. The end
of your claw should just touch the ceiling or you will not latch on. Now
press LEFT and RIGHT to move, A to attack, and DOWN to let go of the ceiling.
Climbing: While normal wolves can't climb walls, werewolves can. To climb,
you must jump and push against a wall. Then you will automatically cling
onto the wall. Now press UP or DOWN to scale and descend the wall. To climb
over the top corner of the wall, you must jump away from the wall (press B)
and then push the D-pad towards the wall after you jump off.
Crawling: The werewolf can crawl into narrow passages that the human form
cannot. Simply walk into these passages and you will automatically start to
crawl.
Power Ray: As a werewolf, your power ray will send shock waves throughout
the entire screen and inflict great damage on everything there. It will kill
any non-boss enemy on the screen. The damage done to bosses varies between
2-8 damage. You will always take 8 damage for each use of the power ray.
**Super Werewolf has all powers of the werewolf except that your attacks
(except power ray) are twice as strong and you can jump higher.**
=============================================================================
IV. GAMEPLAY
=============================================================================
Objective
---------
The game consists of several stages. Each stage is made up of a few areas.
You will have a set amount of time to pass each area. You will fight a boss
at the end of the last area in each stage. Defeat the boss to move on to the
next stage.
The game screen
---------------
The game screen is divided into two parts, top and bottom. The top part is
where all the action takes place. The screen will follow you around and
center around you. The bottom part is where your life meter and other
information are displayed (see below for details).
Life
The amount of life you have left.
Anger
The total amount of anger you have, up to 5 max.
Enemy
The amount of life a boss has left.
Time
The amount of time left to finish a stage.
Status
Your current form. There are 3 faces: human, werewolf, and super werewolf.
In addition, there is a hidden scoreboard that you can access by first
pausing the game and then pressing the SELECT button while paused. You will
be shown the amount of lives you have left and your current score. The
highest score achieved will also be shown at the bottom. Press START to
resume play.
Lives and Continues
-------------------
You begin the game with five lives. You may earn additional lives by finding
1-ups. If you lose a life, the game will end and you will have the option to
CONTINUE or to END. Select CONTINUE to resume play from the start of the
current area of the stage that you are currently in. Continuing after losing
to a boss will start you at the beginning of the area prior to fighting that
boss. Select END to quit and return to the title screen.
2-Player Mode
-------------
Each player will continue playing until he/she dies. Then the other play
will play until he/she dies. Play continues in this manner until a player
dies completely or completes the game.
=============================================================================
V. ITEMS
=============================================================================
Here are all the items that you will find in your mission to destroy Dr.
Faryan. You can find items by killing enemies or by punching objects in each
stage.
Blue W
Faryan will try to fool you with this item. It will revert you back to a
human if you grab it as a werewolf and to a werewolf if you grab it as a
super werewolf. If you grab it while in human form, you will take 10 damage.
However, there is a way to use a blue W in combination with a red W to go
straight to super werewolf form (method currently unknown).
Giant Healing Source
This big heart will restore all of your life.
Giant Red Power Bubble
This big red ball will make you invincible for a short period of time.
Guns
Defeat Faryan's gunmen to get their gun. You only get one bullet per gunman
but you can pick up multiple bullets if you kill the gunmen first before
grabbing any guns.
Healing Source
This small heart will restore 2 life points.
Hourglass
The hourglass will add an additional 50 seconds to the timer.
Points Bonus
This dollar sign will add points to your score.
Red Power Bubble
This small red ball will destroy all enemies on the screen.
Red W
Transform from human form to werewolf form.
Small White Power Bubble
Adds 1 point of anger to your anger meter. Get five anger points while in
werewolf form to transform into super werewolf form.
1-up
Grabbing this will give you an extra life. You will also get an extra life
when you get 50,000 points or more.
=============================================================================
VI. WALKTHROUGH
=============================================================================
This walkthrough will guide you through the entire game. I assume that the
reader is familiar with the game controls as I will only explain select
attacks once. If not, then the reader should refer to the controls section
of this guide before reading this walkthrough. I will explain how to do
things the way I do them. You don't have to follow my strategies. Feel free
to deviate from them whenever you wish. Use as much/little as you need.
Notation/Terminology
====================
I have used the follow notation/terminology in this walkthrough.
Terminology
-----------
Rapid Ray Attack -- firing multiple power rays (human form only).
Name Changes
------------
The names of the items in the walkthrough will be different from the official
names found in the items section above. I have named the items after what
they resemble. Some remain unchanged. The list of changes is below.

Rules to Remember
-----------------
Here are 3 simple rules to remember while playing.
Jump with B, not A
Be aware that jumping is done with the B button and not the A button like in
many other games. Get used to this as soon as possible to avoid careless
deaths later on.
Timing is EVERYTHING
This is a timed game meaning you have a set amount of time to finish each
level. Don't waste time because you will need as much of it as you can get
when you fight the bosses.
Don't forget this game's title
The game is called "Werewolf: The Last Warrior," and not "Human: The Last
Warrior" for a reason. While it is commendable that you would wish to play
the game entirely in human form, there are many areas in the game that
require the powers that only the werewolf form possesses. Therefore, it is
important that you try to stay in werewolf form as much as possible. The
game also gives you plenty of red W's while you're in human form so that
should clue you in as well.
Stage 1 - ???
=============
Area 1
------
The adventure begins. The Great Spirit of Kinju will appear and offer you
some advice. Heed his words. Now take a step forward and you'll fight your
very first sub-boss. Amazing how you didn't even do anything yet and you
already have to fight a sub-boss.
Sub-Boss: The Giant Head
This guy is big and slow but his theme music is pretty catchy. Get familiar
with it as you'll be hearing it every time you fight this guy, which will be
a lot. Now here's how to take him out. He will slowly walk towards you.
You can fight him the easy way or the hard way. The hard way is to run up to
him and crouch punch. That only does 1 damage per hit and the Giant Head
will most likely hit you after you nail him a second time. The easy (and
recommended) method is to use your power ray. Press and hold the A button
down and you'll start to block. Then you will glow. Release the button when
you're glowing to attack with the power ray.
If you quickly press and hold the A button down after you release the first
power ray, you can fire another one a split second later. However, all
successive attacks will "cancel out" the previous power ray because only one
ray may be on the screen at any time. Get some practice by standing on the
left side of the screen and firing at the "Don't Knock" sign. You should be
able to cancel the power ray with another one before the first ray reaches
the sign. If you can do that consistently, then you have mastered what I
call the "rapid ray" attack.
Anyway, fire your power rays at the Giant Head. Notice how they do 2 damage
to him instead of 1? Fire two rays at him and he should jump over to the
other side of the screen. Now step back a few steps and fire two more rays
at him and he'll jump back again. If he gets too close to you, then walk a
few steps away and attack from there. Repeat this tactic until he's dead.
The giant will only jump if you were far enough away from him at the time you
attacked. If the giant doesn't jump, then resort to a hit and run tactic.
Also, your fist doesn't have to touch the Giant Head to count as a hit. The
game considers his outstretched arm to be the "hit zone" so punching the
"space" below the hand will also count as a hit. You can see for yourself by
simply standing and punching. Watch your fist and you'll see that it is
nowhere near the Giant Head's body.
The Giant Head will drop a red W after dying. Don't pass it up or you'll
have a hard time passing many areas. Pick it up and you'll see a
transformation sequence (this time only). Now you're a werewolf. This is
the form that the game expects you to be in for basically the entire game.
Many of the areas are designed for the werewolf form (see notation at top of
walkthrough). You have several new powers as a werewolf (see controls
section for details). First, you can jump even higher than before. Pressing
UP and B will result in a spin jump. You can do a backflip (press A and B
simultaneously) that protects you from all attacks. Your power ray attack
will hurt everything on the screen, including you. Therefore, the power ray
is basically useless in werewolf form. You can also climb walls, enter
narrow passages, and climb ceilings but we'll get to that later. For now,
just go right. Notice that the clock resets to 249 seconds.
Attack the signs. You can sometimes get items to appear. Attack from both
sides to get two items instead of one. Continue to the right. You'll see a
tree. A green plant should appear as you approach. Wait for it to come
close and attack it. If you touch it, you will get caught in its vines.
Just jump repeatedly to free yourself. When you get next to the tree a
killer twig will fly at you from the upper left corner. Either turn around
and crouch punch it or jump up. A boulder may also drop from the right side.
Jump out of the way to avoid it. Now keep going right. You'll soon see a
sign. A plant appears. Kill it and then go forward. The killer twig and
boulder will appear from the left and right sides respectively. Jump out of
their way. Now attack the sign for a small heart and black ball. Go right
and a blue ninja drops down from the sky. Attack him once and you'll get an
item. Go right and kill the plant that appears. Another blue ninja should
appear from the right. Kill him too. Go right and you'll see some gray
columns. Punch the first one to find an hourglass. Skip the second column
for now and jump over the pit instead. Crouch punch the third column to get
a big heart. You'll get fully healed. Now jump back over to the second
column and crouch punch it to find a big red ball. It will make you
invincible. Then walk into the pit to move to area 2.
Area 2
------
You'll get the chance to use the rest of your moves in this area. Punch the
pillar to the left for a black ball. Now look to the right and you'll see a
spike pit. You'll need to use the ceiling walk to safely cross. Two bats
will fly at you to make matters worse. To walk on the ceiling, you'll need
to first jump up. Then while you're in the air, press UP and A to hook your
claws into the ceiling. You need to do the claw hook when you are at the
height of your jump and are about to descend. Do it too early or too late
and you won't hook onto the ceiling. There is a very small hit detection
zone so your timing must be exact. Press DOWN to let go of the ceiling.
The invincibility from the last area should buy you enough time to simply
walk across the pit without worry. However, if you wish to ceiling walk
across, then kill off the bats first. Keep attacking the bats while you're
climbing across to avoid getting knocked down. If you do fall in the pit,
you'll take 2 bars of damage. Either jump and climb back on the ceiling or
run to the right as fast as you can.
Once you're on the other side, you will see a narrow passage at the bottom.
You can't go through as a man but you can as a werewolf. You can crawl into
the passage by just walking into it. You'll automatically start to crawl.
Punch the pillar on the other side for a big heart. Now go crawl back out.
Now you'll learn the final move: wall climbing. Jump and push against the
wall. You'll cling on to the wall and be able to climb up and down it. To
climb up over the edge of the wall, you'll need to first jump away from the
wall and then quickly press towards the wall again. You will land on top of
the wall if you do it correctly. You can even jump off the wall and climb on
the ceiling in this case. This requires precise timing and is not easy to
do. If you can do that, then you have mastered a very valuable technique.
Anyway, get on top of the wall and go right. You'll see a pit. There are
valuable items to be found down there however, the risk is just as great.
Therefore, I advise that you jump over the pit and skip this part unless you
have mastered wall climbing and ceiling. The next part will describe how to
get the items so skip it if you choose to pass this area.
*** (optional) ***
So you want valuable items huh? Good choice but know that if you mess up
here, you will lose a life. Ok, first walk off the ledge and drop down.
Cling on to the bottom gray wall that is to the right of the pillar. Now
climb up as high as you can go on the wall. Then jump off to the right. You
should land on the platform to the right. Now you can jump across the pit or
ceiling walk across. I choose to ceiling walk because jumping requires a
last minute jump and it's very easy to make a careless jump. You can always
jump and ceiling walk for a real challenge.
Now jump up and ceiling walk your way over the pit as far as you can go.
When you can no longer go right any more, press DOWN to let go of the
ceiling. Now press and hold RIGHT immediately afterwards to land on the
platform. If you don't press RIGHT fast enough, you will fall and die. Now
punch the pillar for a 1-up. Then punch both sides of the "Don't Knock" sign
for an hourglass and black ball respectively. Now you'll need to stand on
the left edge of the platform. Jump up and ceiling walk to the platform to
the left. If you are unable to grip the ceiling, then you need to move
closer to the left edge. Your claw will stick to the part of the ceiling
that is left of the edge of the platform that you're on. You'll need to do a
last minute jump from the platform to the left wall. If you jump too early,
you will not cling on to the wall. You will stay on the platform as long as
your back foot is still stepping near the edge. Climb up and jump from the
wall to the ledge above once you're on the wall. Go left and punch the
pillar if you want but it doesn't contain anything. Then jump and climb on
the wall above. Jump one more time to get on top of the ledge.
*** (end of optional part) ***
Go right. Drop down and punch the pillar to find a blue W. Do not pick it
up or you'll revert back to a human. Bats will appear in the area if you
jump so don't jump. Walk right and you'll hear a music change. I'm sure you
know who's back.
Sub-Boss: The Giant Head
Yes, he's back for more. He'll be toast now that you're a werewolf. For
fun, you can ceiling walk and watch as the Giant Head helplessly attacks thin
air. Just walk up and crouch punch him twice. He should jump to the other
side. Then run up and crouch punch again. Use your backflip to get away if
he ever gets too close for comfort. Repeat this until he dies. You get a
black ball for your efforts although he will drop a red W if you kill him in
human form.
Jump up and punch the pillar for a big heart. Kill the bats that appeared
when you jumped. Then drop back down and go right. You should see four
pillars on the ledges above. Jump up and punch the far left and far right
pillars only for a big heart and a 1-up respectively. Do not punch the two
pillars closest to the middle because they each contain blue W's. Drop back
down and go right to enter the next area.
Area 3
------
You'll be facing some of Faryan's henchmen here. They're all packing heat so
punch them out quickly. First punch the pillar to the left for a big red
ball. There's a pillar to the far right side that contains a big heart but
it's not worth getting. Climb down the ladder instead. Punch the pillar
there to find a big heart. See how much closer (and easier) it was to get
this one instead? Now go right and you should see some of Faryan's gunmen.
They are dressed in purple and will shout "OK" moments before they fire.
They will stand and fire at you or crouch and fire if you crouch down. So
just run up and take them out before they take you out. They'll leave a
bullet behind. Only the werewolf will be able to fire the bullet after you
pick it up. Save the bullet for the gunmen and climb down the ladder to the
right.
Note that you can not get off the ladder and step on the platform below. You
must climb all the way to the bottom of the ladder before you can get off of
it. It's dumb but this is the way the game works. You will need to get to
the top right ledge and head to the right to proceed. The werewolf can
wallclimb to skip past this next part but I recommend against doing so. Go
left and jump on the platform. Then punch the pillar for a red W if you are
a human or a black ball if you are a werewolf. You will become a super
werewolf if you grabbed every black ball up to now and did not revert to a
human at any time. Super werewolf form is just a more powerful werewolf that
does twice as much damage. If you have become a super werewolf, then read
the next paragraph. Otherwise skip it.
*** (Super Werewolf only) ***
You don't have much time before you revert back to werewolf form so jump on
the top platform and head right. Jump over the ladder and keep going right
until you see two ladders. Climb the one on the right. Then go right until
you see a pit. Drop in to fight the boss. Run up and hit him 5 times
quickly and he'll be dead. You can skip the strategy on how to beat the boss
below and move on to stage 2.
*** (end of Super Werewolf only part) ***
Jump to the top platform and go right. Jump over the ladder to head to the
right. You'll pass over a pillar to the left of some ceiling rods below. It
contains a 1-up but it is protected by laser beams that come shoot out from
the rods. Drop down and you'll see two ladders. Don't go and get the 1-up
(read on to find out why). Climb up the left ladder. Go left and punch the
pillar there. A 1-up will appear only if you skipped the 1-up that was past
the lighting. That's why I told you to skip the other 1-up. Apparently the
game is stingy and only gives you only one 1-up here. Even if you go back
down to the other pillar, it will not give you anything since you just got
the extra life at the pillar above. Climb up the ladder and punch the
pillar. You'll find a big heart. Now go right and drop down.
You'll see some rods in the ceiling. They will emit a powerful laser beam
that will hurt you big time. Don't worry. You can safely pass them by doing
a backflip. I find it easier to do a backflip if you just hold the A button
down (don't release it) and just press the B button. You can also hold the B
button down and press the A button if you like. It's more reliable than
pressing both buttons at once. Anyway, stand to the left of the leftmost
rod. Face the left and then backflip. Notice that the screen did not scroll
forward as you flipped? Well keep backflipping until you reach the right
side of the screen. Now just walk to the right and you'll pass all the rods
without any more laser beams appearing. Keep track of the number of orange
lines that you see in the background. Stop when you get to the end of the
platform or to the 8th orange line. There's a pillar on the other side. It
contains a big heart. Get it by standing near the edge and high-jumping
(press UP and RIGHT and B simultaneously). Then fall in the pit to fight the
boss.
Boss: Green Slime Man
This puddle of green goo is your first real challenge. He will appear on the
right side and slowly ooze his way to you. He'll fall forward and fire a
shot out and then resume oozing towards you again. He fall forward and fire
again a few seconds later. He'll repeat this pattern until you hit him 6
times. Then he'll become two green balls and bounce around the room. Then
he'll reappear on the edge of the screen and repeat his oozing and shooting
until you hit him 6 more times. Then he'll become a ball again and repeat
the process for another 6 hits.
(human form strategy)
There are two platforms on both sides that you can stand on for safety from
his shots but that won't be necessary. Stay far away and use the rapid ray
attack (quick power rays) to nail him for 12 damage before he splits. Now
it's hard to dodge both balls but usually one of them bounces away. Use a
combination of running left and right, jumping, and standing in the corner
and the center of the screen to avoid the ball. Now give the boss some more
rapid rays after he reappears to finish him off.
(werewolf form strategy)
Run up and attack the boss until he becomes a ball. Now continuously
backflip to avoid the balls. Run up and attack the boss again when he
reappears to finish him off. You can even use the power ray attack if you
have 9 or more energy bars to inflict 8 damage to him (and yourself) which
will be just enough to finish him off.
(wereform form quick and dirty way to win)
You should be at full health if you grabbed the big heart before the fight.
So this fight is going to be even easier since you can inflict 16 damage to
the boss with 2 power rays alone. So run up and hit the boss twice to
inflict 4 damage. Then high jump to the platform to the right so the boss
can't hit you. Now use two power ray attacks and he's finished.
Stage 2 - Mad City
==================
Area 1
------
The Great Spirit of Kinju warns you to avoid trouble. That is an important
lesson to keep in mind in this stage. Start by crouch punching the left
post. Get the big heart. Now go right. A brick will fall down after you
walk under the purple bars. Stop and let it fall in front of you or backflip
to avoid it. Kill the green guy on roller-skates that also appears. Now tap
the controller to slowly move right because you can avoid any additional
falling bricks much easier this way. Be alert for additional roller-skate
guys too. You can also backflip to the right side of the screen and walk
forward safely but it's not necessary. You'll come across several trash cans
stacked on top of each other. Punch them all for small hearts and bullets.
Now recall what Kinju said about avoiding trouble. You should have noticed
that the street has a lot of enemies and things to avoid.
Therefore, enter the underground waterways by climbing down the ladder. Make
sure that you stand up after you get off the ladder because there's a
tendency to stay crouching after you step off the ladder. Watch the ground
for openings. Jump over the first gap. A bat will appear. Kill it. Then
you should see the water pouring from the hole above. The water will hurt
you if you touch it. Let it pour away completely before you jump over the
gap. You can also backflip through it but make sure you don't flip into the
gap itself. Now above you is an opening. Jump up on the ledge above. Then
jump up and punch the upperleft corner of the ledge to the left. You'll make
a big heart appear. Go left and punch the right trash can for an hourglass.
Do not punch the trash can to the left. It contains a blue W. Punch the far
left trash can for a red W (human form) or a black ball (werewolf form).
Make sure that you avoid any water that might come out of the hole up there.
Now drop down and go right.
Wait for the water from the hole to disappear before proceeding. A water man
will probably appear from the ground under the hole. Attack him a few times
to kill him. Go right and avoid the next stream of water in your way. Then
jump over the gap. Jump up the ledges above you to cross the wider pit. Go
right and wait for the water to subside before crossing the two holes. Jump
on the first ledge above the next pit. Wait for the water to go away before
you jump or you will get knocked into the pit by the water. You can also
backflip safely past the water too. Just get on the platform below. Now
wait for the next water to pass. Then high jump over the wide pit. Go right
and you'll see a ladder. Kill the bat that appears as you approach the
ladder. Climb up the ladder. Do not punch the trash cans to the right. Go
left instead. Pass the ladder and punch the trash cans for a small heart,
bullet, and 1-up respectively. Now you can go down the ladder that you
passed and punch the trash cans that you find but they're not worth it since
one of them contains a blue W.
Go right and you can climb back up to the street but it's dangerous up there
so climb back down into the waterways. Go right and watch the water. Jump
up and punch the upperleft corner of the ledge with the three trash cans
above you to make a big heart appear. Punch the trash can under the hole for
a big red ball. Do not punch the other trash can because it contains a blue
W. Now that you're invincible, just run to the right and jump over the pits
on the floor. The water will not hurt you. Now you'll see 5 trash cans
above you. Punch the first three for points, a 1-up, and an hourglass.
Punch the far right can for a black ball. Don't punch the fourth can from
the left because it contains a blue W. Drop back down and kill any water men
that appear. A bat should also appear as you go to the right. Kill it and
punch the can next to the ladder for a bullet.
To the right are many trash cans stacked. There are four to your immediate
right. Punch the middle one on both sides for points. Then punch the left
can for a black ball. The top four cans to the right are next. Punch the
leftmost one for an hourglass. The one next to it is a blue W. The third
one is a small heart while the fourth one has nothing. Drop down and punch
the can on top of the left pile for an hourglass. Then punch the far right
can for a big heart. The one to its left is a blue W so skip it. Now go
back to the left and climb up the ladder. The trash cans to the right only
contain one bullet altogether. The street above you has a hole so jump
through it. Slowly go to the right. Dynamite will be thrown out and bricks
will fall. The platform above you will shield you from the bricks but you
still need to avoid the dynamite's explosion. Tapping the controller so you
take small steps is one way to avoid getting injured. Punch the trash cans
for a small heart and bullet. Then go right and the music changes.
Sub-Boss: The Giant Head
He's back with a new gray look. There are several obstacles in your way so
fighting him won't be as simple as previous encounters. The strategy to use
is to hit and run. He's going to jump around after several hits and most
likely will hit you when he jumps. You can't do much to avoid this unless he
jumps when you're standing on the ground. The trash cans definitely are the
difference maker in this fight. Just try to keep the fight on the right side
of the screen and jump away when you run out of fight space. The Giant Head
can drop down from high platforms but he can't jump up to them. So you can
use the platforms above to make your escape. Then attack him on the other
side. Hopefully you aren't in human form but if you are, you can just use
single power ray shots since they travel the length of the screen. The Giant
Head will drop a red W or a black ball when he dies.
Now go right and you'll see the boss, Iron Head, make his escape. Follow him
to the right. You'll enter the next area.
Area 2
------
You're on top of a building. There are steel girders up here. If you take
the wrong path, lighting will come down from the sky and instantly kill you.
Go left and punch the drum for a big red ball. Punch the drum on the other
side for a black ball. Going further left will cause a lighting bolt to come
down so climb up the ladder. Climb up the steel girder to the left. Don't
jump into the gap between the girders to the right or you'll get zapped by
lighting. Get on top of the left girder and jump off to the left. Go left
and punch the drums for a black ball and big red ball. Then climb up the
girder to the left. Jump off to the left to land on some drums below. Punch
it for a big red ball. Then climb up the girder to the left. Lighting will
appear to the left of the girder. Jump past it to the left and climb up that
girder. Jump up to the next girder to your left. Jump off from here to the
left where you'll land on more drums below. Punch them both for a black ball
and an hourglass.
Then jump and climb up the girder to the left. Jump over to the fat girder
to the left once you get on top. Jump off the fat girder to the left.
You'll land near a small fat girder. There are some drums to the left. Skip
them for now and climb up to the platform above. Climb up the girders to the
left and you'll see some drums. Punch them for a black ball, a big red ball,
and an hourglass. Then head back down to the right since the left side leads
to a dead end (and lightning). Now punch the drums below for another big red
ball, hourglass, and black ball. Now you will see a purple conveyor belt in
the ceiling to your left. Stand under it and jump up. Do not do anything
else. You will automatically latch on. Ride it to the left and you will
automatically let go when you reach the left side. Do not let go any sooner
or you'll die. You'll fight the boss after you safely fall many stories
down.
Boss: Iron Head
This guy brags about his strength and with good reason. He moves slowly but
his attacks are anything but slow. He'll punch the wall and cause a tremor
that will immobilize you momentarily. While you're stunned, he will toss
some bricks at you. Avoid it and the debris explosion after it hits the
ground. Jumping is difficult because Iron Head can catch you in his arms and
throw you away. This attack is not as dangerous as the bricks. He will also
pound his chest to cause a tremor. This will also stun you momentarily. His
last attack is simply to punch you. It has decent range.
You won't make it here as a human and you should have full life too since the
lightning from area 2 instantly kills. So it's an even fight. What's
important to know here is that Iron Head will be temporarily invulnerable
after you hit him so you can't just rapidly attack him like you did for the
first boss. First, run up and attack Iron Head once. He'll try to throw
some bricks at you. You should be able to attack him one more time before he
actually throws them. Step back to avoid them. Then walk up and attack
again. If everything goes according to plan, Iron Head will pound the wall
again. Now you won't have time for a second attack so dodge the bricks and
run back to attack again afterwards. Iron Head should pound the wall if you
ran back close enough to him but there's no guarantee that he will. Don't
get too close or his hand will hit you when he pounds the wall. Now try to
get four or five hits in before you jump on the high left platform. Iron
Head can still toss bricks that will hit you up there but he usually throws
the lower ones instead.
He will keep approaching to the left until he's under you. Hopefully, he
will pound the wall. Then you can do a backflip off to the right while he's
busy throwing the bricks or a power ray (if you have enough life). If Iron
Head doesn't pound the wall, you can still backflip off but you'll get hurt.
One hit shouldn't be too bad. Now be careful as Iron Head will become more
aggressive and faster as a result of losing half his life. Resume the hit
and run tactic after you land. You should be able to finish off Iron Head
without needing to jump on the right platform but you can stay up there and
then jump over Iron Head to hit him again until he's dead. If you revert
back to human form during the fight, then you are in deep trouble because
Iron Head will pound the wall preventing you from effectively using the power
ray. Stick with the hit and run tactic instead. You won't be able to
backflip so you probably will get hit when you try to jump off the platform.
However, Iron Head should be close to death as well. What you definitely do
not want to do is to go head to head with him because he will always win.
(wereform form quick and dirty way to win)
You can use this strategy only if you have full or near full life. Hit Iron
Head twice before retreating to the high left platform. Now try your best to
use two power ray attacks. You should be able to pull them out during the
time that Iron Head is trying to throw bricks at you. He'll be toast if you
manage to pull off both of them.
Stage 3 - Stalactite Cave & Madness Base
========================================
Area 1
------
Jump over the first three pits that you see. Now you should see a flame to
the right. Pause the game and keep your eyes on the stalactites in the
ceiling above the flame. Unpause the game. You should have noticed that one
stalactite appeared. Pause/Resume the game until you notice it. That
stalactite will drop down when you get near it. Jump to the ledge and the
stalactite will fall harmlessly in front of you if you don't overshoot the
jump. Take a step forward and the flame should burst up. It will burst up
again in a few seconds. Punch only one block at a time. The left block
contains points. The right one has a black ball. Now jump over the pit to
the right. Punch the two blocks on the platform to find an hourglass and a
big heart. Now jump to the ladder to the right. Look to the right. You
should see a platform with a flame on it. Jumping to it from here is VERY
difficult to time so just climb up the ladder. There will be a ladder up to
the forest surface. Don't go up there because it is a death trap filled with
a constant barrage of ninjas and jetpack soldiers. Basically, it's for
experts only. If you choose to go up anyway, read the next part below.
Otherwise skip it and read below that for the safer way to proceed.
*** (EXPERTS ONLY) ***
This is a long forest and the game will try its best to make sure that you
die up here. Why is it that video game forests are so dangerous? You will
skip a fight with the Giant Head by using this route. With that in mind,
climb up the ladder and go right. You'll be fighting tons of ninjas that
appear. Also, jetpack soldiers will appear from both sides. The soldiers
throw grenades and shoot laser blasts at you. You can jump over the blasts
that the soldiers shoot if you time it carefully. The right soldier tends to
fly around and throw grenades but he can also blast you when he appears. The
ninja will be your biggest nuisance because he can appear on either side and
cut you. Run to the right as fast as you can. Don't stop even if you get
hit.
Try not to jump because you'll bump into the jetpack soldiers. The enemies
will drop a lot of blue W's after you kill them so watch out for those as
well. Skip the blocks that you see. The left ones contains hourglasses
while the right ones contain blue W's. Just keep going to the right. You
can avoid getting shot from the left if you don't stop moving. That leaves
just the right soldier and the ninja for you to worry about. Try not to
revert to human form or you'll be creamed. Eventually you'll reach the end
of the forest where you'll find two blocks under the moon. Punch them both
for an hourglass and a big heart (you deserve it). Then drop down to the
right and go right to enter the next area.
*** (end of EXPERTS ONLY part) ***
Skip the ladder and look right. Recall that the platform with the flame is
just below. Jump off the platform and fall through the opening to the right.
Don't high jump or you'll hit the flame below. You should land safely on the
platform with the flame. The flame should miss you as it bursts out. Now
jump to the right. Walk to the right of the ladder and stop. A ceiling
stalactite will drop down. Now you have two choices to pick from to cross
the next part. Choice A requires you to take 2 damage. Choice B requires
mastery of the wall climb and ceiling walk. I've labeled each choice below.
Make your choice and then read the paragraph after both choices for the rest
of the level.
*** (choice A) ***
Climb up the ladder. Don't climb up to the forest above. You'll see spikes
to the right. Backflip over the first set of spikes. You'll land on the
small platform. Move back and forth on the platform to scroll the screen
forward. Now the next set of spikes is too wide to flip over. You'll have
to backflip and get hit once. Then jump again while you're invincible to
pass the rest of the spikes. Stand at the right edge of the platform. Jump
off to the right. You should land on a platform below.
*** (end of choice A) ***
*** (choice B) ***
If you mess up here, you will lose a life. Keep that in mind as you jump and
climb the tall wall to the right. Get on top of it and then climb on the
right side of the wall. Position yourself in the middle of the wall. Then
jump off to the right and hook your claw into the ceiling of the rock to the
right. Do it quickly after you jump or you will fall and die. Now ceiling
walk to the platform to the right. Stand on the right edge of the platform
and high jump to the platform to the right. You will miss the platform if
you aren't standing at the edge at the time of the jump.
*** (end of choice B) ***
You should now be on the same platform regardless of which choice that you
picked just before. Stand on the right edge and high jump to the right. A
regular jump will not cut it here. Don't worry about the ceiling stalactite
because it will miss you. Now jump over to the ladder. Climb up. Don't
climb up to the forest above. Walk off and jump through the opening to the
right. You'll land on a platform below. Jump over to the right platform.
Punch the right block for a black ball. The left block contains a blue W.
Now this part requires the usual last minute jump you've seen thus far.
Stand on the right edge of the right block. Now do a high jump to the
platform to the right. You should either land on the platform itself or
cling on to its left side.
Get on the platform and then take a step forward. A stalactite will drop
down from the ceiling. Let it drop. Then jump to the block on the platform
to your right. Now step on the spikes and quickly punch the block while
you're invincible for a 1-up. You might be standing directly next to the
block or nothing will appear. Quickly get back on the left block. The
platform has a flame bursting on it. Wait for it to disappear. Then jump on
the right edge of the platform and jump to the right before the next flame
bursts out. Punch the next two blocks for points and a black ball. Jump
over the next pit and punch out the blocks that you find there for an
hourglass and a big heart. Then go slowly walk right. A stalactite will
drop down. Now go right and the music changes to a familiar theme.
Sub-Boss: The Giant Head
The Giant Head is green this time to match the cave's color scheme. He still
has the same attack pattern though. For this fight, you will be staying in
the lower space in the floor. If you are in human form, use power rays in
place of regular attacks. Stand on the left or right side of the space and
crouch punch the Giant Head. He should jump away after two hits. Now stand
on the side closest to the giant and crouch punch away. Repeat this strategy
until he loses half his life. Now the Giant Head will become red and more
aggressive. Now you'll need to alter your strategy slightly. Continue to
stand on the left or right side closest to the giant and attack. However,
run to the other side of the space and attack from there for the second hit.
Let the Giant Head come to you. He will jump away after two hits. Run to
the side closest to him and repeat this pattern until he dies. He'll drop a
red W or a black ball.
Go right and watch out for the stalactite that drops as you approach the
first green block. Punch the block for a big heart. There's a flame
bursting forth from the middle block. Just jump over the block. It only
contained a blue W anyway. Punch the right block for an hourglass. Go right
to enter the next area.
Area 2
------
You're in Faryan's secret base and it is on full alert. The only music you
will hear for this entire area is the annoying, ear-piercing siren ringing.
You will definitely want to press the mute button on your television. In
fact, I strongly advise doing so to avoid giving yourself a headache. This
area has four levels of passages but you can consider it to be just 2
passages, top and bottom. Most of the top passages require you to be in
werewolf form. I have chosen a path that both the human and werewolf can
pass. It also leads you through most of the blocks with items.
Now to the right are deadly laser beams that only the werewolf can pass.
You'll need to climb up if you're a human. I also suggest that you climb up
if you are a werewolf too. There's a spike pit to the right. Backflip over
it or jump if you're a human. You'll get hurt doing this but there's no
other way. Go right and the music changes.
Sub-Boss: The Giant Head
The Giant Head is blue like the one you saw in the intro for this stage. Too
bad he's in area 2 and not area 1 like he should be. This fight is just like
the others except that there are platforms on both sides. You will need to
use a hit and run attack pattern against the giant here. He'll jump away
after two hits. Just run after him and continue your hit and run assault.
He will speed up after half his life is gone so be sure to keep your
distance. If you are a human, then use the power ray attack until you cut
the giant's life in half. Then keep on the move to avoid the giant's
attacks. Use the platforms in the room to maneuver around the giant. The
power ray will take time to charge so don't force an attack unless you have
enough time to both attack and to make your escape afterwards. The giant
will drop a red W or a black ball after he dies.
Now climb up the ladder and head right. Faryan's gunmen show up. Take them
out and save the bullet that they drop behind. Climb down the ladder. Don't
punch the first block to the right because it contains a blue W. Do punch
the other block for an hourglass. Then go right and do not climb down or up
any ladders. Don't punch any blocks because one of them contains another
blue W. You'll come to the end of the platform and have two routes to pick
from. Take the bottom path and walk off to the right. You'll land in front
of a brown block. Jump over it and go to the ladder to the right. Climb up
the ladder and you'll see more of the gunmen. Kill any that get in your way
and go right. Don't climb any ladders. Punch the second brown block that
you encounter to find an hourglass. The first one contained a blue W.
Now go right and walk off the end of the platform. You'll land on a ladder
below. Climb down and you'll be in a green corridor area. Jump over the pit
to your right. Walk to the right edge of the platform. Now you'll be in
front of another pit. Do not jump over it because there are laser beams set
up in this passage to knock you into the pits. As you can imagine, humans
will not survive here so you had better be in werewolf form. Stand on the
edge of the platform and backflip over the pit. Now you're on the other side
but the screen most likely did not scroll forward. Correct this problem by
tapping LEFT and RIGHT to move back in forth in place. The screen will now
scroll forward. Position yourself near the edge and backflip over the next
pit. Then scroll the screen forward using the previously described method.
Repeat this for the remaining pits. You'll pass 5 pits with backflips before
you run into some brown blocks. Punch them all for a big heart and an
hourglass. Then crawl through the passage to the right. Then climb up the
ladder. There are many blocks to punch up here. Crouch move to the left and
punch the block left of the ladder for a black ball. Then punch the first
block to the right of the ladder for an hourglass. The third block has a
blue W so skip it. Go right and you'll see two blocks next to each other.
Punch the one on the right for an hourglass. The last two blocks to your
right both contain blue W's so just skip them. Jump through the opening to
the right to fight the boss.
Boss: Fireman
Things are really going to heat up here. Fireman's strength is his speed.
He will literally run rings around you making this a tough fight. He will
burst out from either the left or right side as a fireball. He'll land just
to the right or to the left of the center of the room. Next, he'll throw a
flame boomerang at you or jump up if you're on a platform. Fireman will run
across the room whenever you attack no matter where you are in the room.
He'll run off the screen and then blaze back out moments later. After you
reduce his life to 10 bars or less, he will no longer throw flame boomerangs.
Instead, he will charge up and fire an oscillating energy wave out. He will
still use the run after you attack though.
(human form strategy)
It's very difficult, but possible, to dodge Fireman's opening rush at you
when the fight starts. You must quickly turn left and punch him when you
enter the fight. Now IMMEDIATELY high jump to the second brown block from
the left. Then Fireman will run to the right and come rushing back to the
left. Now quickly jump over Fireman as he runs out to the left. This is how
you avoid his opening move. Note that if you mess up anything (punch, high
jump, or jump) then you will get hit.
The following strategy will work for either side although I prefer to stay on
the left side. Notice that there are four brown blocks in the room. Jump
and stand on the second one from the left. Now face the right, charge up for
a power ray, and wait for Fireman to blaze out. He'll try to throw a
boomerang at you. Blast him and quickly jump up the platform above to get
out of Fireman's way. Drop back down on the second block after he runs off
the screen and charge up your power ray again. Wait for him come out and
blast him. Then jump back up on the platform. Now repeat this pattern until
he dies. It's even easier to hit Fireman if you time the power ray to hit
him just as he comes out of his fireball entrance. If you want to stay on
the right side, stand on the second block from the right instead and jump to
the right platform instead of the left. Follow the rest of the strategy as
normal.
(werewolf form strategy)
The big factor in this fight will be your ability to execute a quick
backflip. Immediately do a backflip to dodge Fireman's opening rush at you
when the fight begins. You'll land on the left platform. Now run to the
right. Fireman will blaze out and appear to your left. Attack him. Then do
a backflip afterwards to dodge Fireman's charge. Now jump on the second
brown block from the right side. Stand there and wait. Fireman will blaze
out in front of you. Attack him and he'll fly away. Stay on the block and
wait. He'll appear in front of you moments later. Attack him and backflip
to avoid the charge. Then get back on the block. Fireman blazes out again.
Attack him this time and he flies away. Notice how Fireman will charge at
you if you hit him an odd number of times while he flies away if you hit him
an even number of times? This means you only need to backflip every other
hit. Just keep track of what hit you have on Fireman, odd or even. Repeat
this strategy until Fireman is dead. Do not use the power ray at all because
it only does 4 damage to Fireman but 8 to you. You'll need all the energy
that you can get for this fight. Also, this strategy must be done from the
right side. You will get hit when Fireman flies away if you try to use this
strategy from the left side.
Stage 4 - Thick Forest
======================
Area 1
------
The Great Spirit of Kinju will warn you about water. What he neglects to
mention is that water is also the natural enemy of both werewolves AND
humans. This means that if you fall into the water, you will die. I hope
you have a lot of patience because this level will test your limits. Don't
be surprised if you endure countless cheap deaths. I guarantee you that the
cheapness in this stage matches or surpasses the birds of Ninja Gaiden. Now
let's proceed.
Go right. Jump across to the next ledge. Walk to the right edge and attack
the piranha that jumps out at you. Then jump across to the next ledge. Walk
to the right and you'll see a killer twig fly out from the left side. It
will miss you. Go to the edge of the ledge and you'll see a wide pit. A log
will drop down from the sky. You need to jump on the log and use it to cross
the pit. You will die if you fail to get off the log in time. Watch the log
drop off the screen. Now wait for another log to drop down. Jump and land
on it. A piranha will pop out to your right. Wait for it to drop down.
Then jump from the log to the platform to the right. Jump up to the higher
platform above. Go right. Another killer twig appears from the left side.
A piranha will pop up in the middle of the platform. Kill or dodge it. Then
jump over to the platform to the right. Take a few steps and another piranha
pops up. Dodge it and continue to the right.
A killer twig appears. Go right some more and a piranha appears on the right
side of the platform. Dodge it. Now there's a wide pit to the right. A log
drops down. Let it fall and wait for another one to drop. Jump on it as
soon as you can. Then high jump to the narrow ledge to the right. Attack
while you're jumping or the piranhas will knock you into the water. Do not
move a step while on the small ledge. Now wait for any piranhas on screen to
drop back down. Jump straight up and you'll see a couple of piranhas pop up
to the right. Now high jump to the top platform to the right. Attack while
airborne to defend against the piranhas. Now go right. You'll see another
wide pit. A log drops down. Let it drop and wait for another. Jump on it
as soon as you can. Walk to the right side of the log and high jump to the
platform to the right. Attack while you jump to kill the piranhas that pop
up. Don't forget to keep pushing to the right while jumping or you jump far
enough. Quickly move to the right once you land on the platform to avoid
getting blasted off by the jetpack soldiers. Walk to the right side of the
platform and wait.
A log should fall down. If not, then take a few steps back to the left and a
lot should appear then. You'll need to be extra careful here. Kill the
jetpack soldiers before you jump on the log. Most likely a soldier from the
left will blast you right as the log drops down. Wait for him to fly away
and then jump on the log. Quickly jump off it since it should near the
bottom of the screen by the time you land. Land on the platform to the
right. Jump over the small pit to the next platform. Walk to the right edge
and a piranha pops out. Kill it. There's a wide pit to your right. A log
should drop down. If not, then you need to high jump up and move slightly to
the left in the air. This should not only cause the log to drop down but
also prevent any jetpack soldiers from appearing although piranhas will still
pop out. Jump on the log when there are no enemies on the screen. Attack
while jumping to defend against the piranhas. Then high jump on to the
platform to the right. Attack while you jump.
Go right and a piranha pops out. Kill it. Jump over the pit and a boulder
drops down to your right. Smash it with your attack. Then jump on the
higher platform to the right. More boulders drop down. Smash them all.
Then continue to the right. There's a big tree in the background and some
more pits. Jump up while you're on the right edge and you should see some
boulders drop down from the big tree. So jump up to cause some boulders to
drop. Then jump and attack in the air to land on the platform below the big
tree. You should smash any other boulders that appear in the air. High jump
to the platform to the right afterwards. Go right and you'll see more of
Faryan's gunmen. Take them out and save a bullet. Go right and the music
changes.
Sub-Boss: The Giant Head
What level would be complete without a fight with the Giant Head? This is a
flat battle ground so there's no excuses here. Fire your bullet at him. If
you were lucky you might have picked up two bullets from Faryan's gunmen.
Now attack him twice and he should jump away. Keep up the attacks until you
deplete half of his life. Now he'll turn red and become aggressive. Hit him
once. Then run away and attack again after a second or two. The Giant Head
will be invulnerable for a second or so after you hit him so that's why you
need to stagger your attacks. A couple of hits will send him flying. Then
repeat the hit and run until the giant is dead. He'll drop the usual red W
or black ball upon defeat.
Now go right and you fight more of the
