I'm kind of going off this game and onto Rock Band. For me, Rock Band has a better playlist, and it looks so fun, and you can't buy both, can you? OR CAN YOU
― antexit, Thursday, 12 July 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)
How pricey is Rock Band going to be?
― Ms Misery, Thursday, 12 July 2007 19:43 (eighteen years ago)
Well, the game itself is like $50, if you just want to play a more dynamic version of guitar hero with your old guitar hero guitar. The peripherals are anywhere from $20 for the mike/tambourine to up to $70 or something for the drums. All the periphs look really solid, though, and un toy-like.
Rock Band playlist so far:
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" - Blue Öyster Cult "Enter Sandman" - Metallica "Go With the Flow" - Queens of the Stone Age "In Bloom" - Nirvana "Learn To Fly" - Foo Fighters "Main Offender" - The Hives "Mississippi Queen" - Mountain "Paranoid" - Black Sabbath "Reptilia" - The Strokes "Rockaway Beach" - The Ramones "Say It Ain't So" - Weezer "Suffragette City" - David Bowie "Tom Sawyer" - Rush "Vasoline" - Stone Temple Pilots "Wanted Dead or Alive" - Bon Jovi "Won't Get Fooled Again" - The Who
Given that there will be new downloads every week, including entire albums, sorry but this is kind of kicking GH3's ass.
― antexit, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)
Well it sounds like it but I couldn't splash out for all of that for awhile. And don't have a system that downloads. :/ One day.
― Ms Misery, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)
SWEEEET! Between RS & GHIII, I might never see the light of day ever again.
― David R., Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)
Whoa. We'll probably buy Rock Band just for Rockaway Beach!
― melton mowbray, Friday, 13 July 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)
Whatever, I'm just going to buy both. (and also the 80s edition of GH2).
― polyphonic, Friday, 13 July 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)
Yes, but HOW? Do you buy GH3 with the controller and then use that and your controller from GH2 to play Rock Band? Or do you buy it without and play with the old controller, waiting for the Rock Band guitar? What about those mysterious extra five keys on the Rock Band guitar? It's very stressful thinking about this!
― antexit, Saturday, 14 July 2007 03:10 (eighteen years ago)
Oh I would just buy whatever they asked me to buy. I am their complete bitch at this point.
― polyphonic, Saturday, 14 July 2007 06:31 (eighteen years ago)
Wow, every time I look at those two playlists together GH3 looks less appealing. I'm sure they have a few aces up their sleeve (I'll bet the last song is Stairway), but right now it's pretty underwhelming. And I hate the new look of the rock meter.
― antexit, Saturday, 14 July 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)
rockaway beach!!!!
― s1ocki, Saturday, 14 July 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)
Yep. And you can SING it, probably the funnest Ramones song to sing. "Chewin' out a rhythm on my bubblegum..."
― antexit, Saturday, 14 July 2007 23:32 (eighteen years ago)
I finally finished five-starring the Hard level on GHII today and it was very, very satisfying. I don't think I'll use the eyeball guitar much, though.
― polyphonic, Sunday, 15 July 2007 05:45 (eighteen years ago)
Gawd, am I gonna buy this for the wii? Or am I waiting for rockstar? I'm not connecting my ps2 to the internet and i ain't got no xbox/ps3, so it looks like gh3 is the best way to play with other people for now...
― forksclovetofu, Thursday, 25 October 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

90 DOLLAHS FOR NEW GITAR MAKE MY HART HURT
Anyone play the demo for this? When I downloaded the original demo and burned it to CD-R, the 360 barely recognized half my notes, most of which were spot-on. I thought my guitar had broken. I just downloaded the demo on XBLA but haven't played it to see if it is broken too.
― jeff, Thursday, 25 October 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)
Did you try recalibrating in the options?
― polyphonic, Thursday, 25 October 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, I should've mentioned that. I tried a number of different calibrating options and it was still off. Even weirder, the demo gave me very different calibration offsets every time I tried it. I guess it doesn't matter since the game comes out this weekend and presumably works fine, but I hope it's not some weird GH2 controller issue. I'm assuming it's just me since I haven't heard anything about it.
― jeff, Thursday, 25 October 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)
I take back everything I said about this game! The difficulty is just right, the songs are great, except for a few stinkers which are worse than the stinkers in the last one, and it is so fun heart heart heart.
Except the battles are NOT FUN AT ALL AND A DRAG AND A STUPID IDEA.
― antexit, Saturday, 27 October 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)
And the responsiveness is fine. I think they made the window for the hammer-ons and pull-offs a little wider.
― antexit, Saturday, 27 October 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
The downloaded demo didn't work with my GH2 guitar either. The game kept giving me the bum note audio but when I finished the song, it said I had like 94% completeness. Really odd. I hope the actual game works.
― jeff, Sunday, 28 October 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)
I think i'm going to be solely going for rock band. I arr too poor for both. sorry guitar hero.
― Dy, Monday, 29 October 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)
I'm gonna be fucked trying to buy a copy of this tomorrow, aren't i?
― forksclovetofu, Monday, 29 October 2007 02:24 (eighteen years ago)
Played the demo. Seemed just like the same game all over again. I'm going to skip this one and get Rock Band, maybe borrow this one from a friend and burn through it in a weekend.
― polyphonic, Monday, 29 October 2007 06:29 (eighteen years ago)
It is incredibly fun, this game. It's the same, obviously, but they've weighted the difficulty differently, making the hammer-ons/pulloffs easier and adding way more notes, so that Hard looks like Expert did on the last one. And some dud songs but not many. I wish there was more 70s wheedle-dee stuff, though.
The shit songs in Rock Band are way worse than the shit songs in Guitar Hero, in my opinion, though the good songs are better. I have to sing Fall Out Boy in my own living room? FORGET IT.
― antexit, Monday, 29 October 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)
For some reason, the actual game of GH3 that I purchased was giving me similar problems even though I was using the actual GH3 guitar. It only lasted a few songs. I think it probably means that my xbox is dying.
― jeff, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)
Went to Toys R Us, Gamestop and EB this morning about twenty minutes after all had opened; only EB had the wii guitar hero pack and they only had two left. Everybody had plenty of software copies for ps2/ps3/xbox, but the wii version HAS to come with the guitar, which makes it bulkier, pricier, etc. I'm glad I got mine now; Amazon marks delivery at "six to seven weeks" and red octane isn't taking new orders. Likely going to be a frustrating rarity for the next month or two.
― forksclovetofu, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)
That's a huge drag, but if you're playing two-player, do you necessarily have to sing every song? Couldn't you just do guitar/drums instead of drums/sing or whatnot? Or is your career mode based on performing the same tasks all the way through?
I really can't wait to play this thing.
― polyphonic, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)
People be online already in a big way; I was able to play multiplayer at 2 in the morning the day after the game streeted. And they were GOOD at it too.
― forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)
I tried to jump online in a ranked match but the douche just picked easy after I had selected hard. No one was surprised that he beat me 100% to 94%. Kids these days...
― jeff, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)
You gotta specify prior to joining. I'm only doing unranked until I get my mojo workin'.
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)
You mean set up the match at a certain difficulty ahead of time? If that's an option, I'll have to try that.
I tried to finish the game last night but couldn't beat the last boss. It was very close.
I want to get really good at Slayer and Maiden. My life will be complete then.
― jeff, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)
Was anyone else bothered by the note streak announcement popping up on screen? I find it distracting.
― jeff, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, it almost always results in me hitting the wrong note. Like, "oh I'm awesome, no wait, that made me lose it". Yeah, you can specify match type and difficulty before joining/creating and it'll search for a match.
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)
okay, who has this for the wii? I need friend codes.
― forksclovetofu, Thursday, 1 November 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
On EXPERT you're beating it already, Jeff?
I am up to the Slipknot etc level on Hard and it is kicking my ass so bad. I like the streak announcements. You know where you're at. I also like the star power reservoir.
― antexit, Thursday, 1 November 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)
Just beat medium last night.
― forksclovetofu, Thursday, 1 November 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
(xp) I'm working my way through hard right now. I want to perfect the last tier on hard before I move on to expert.
― jeff, Thursday, 1 November 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)
You get perfect scores on last-tier songs on Hard? I struggle to get five stars on the top songs on Hard in the previous games.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 1 November 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)
You guys are playing on a whole different field than me. I just got my first perfect score EVER, in all three games, on My Name Is Jones on hard, and I don't expect to be getting any more.
― antexit, Friday, 2 November 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)
I don't even try for perfect scores because you don't get anything for 'em. I want the stars so I can buy more guitar skins I won't use.
― polyphonic, Friday, 2 November 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)
You get an achievement, once.
― antexit, Friday, 2 November 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)
Well, not on the PS2. :)
― polyphonic, Friday, 2 November 2007 18:59 (eighteen years ago)
Boy, the Battle with Tom Morello on Expert is kicking my ass. :/
― polyphonic, Sunday, 4 November 2007 08:05 (eighteen years ago)
I don't usually post here, but wanted to ask around to see if any ILXORS have any questions, comments, or complaints for the developers of Guitar Hero III...stuff you liked....disliked...decisions you question, etc...
This is for a new section of the magazine for which I work, thought some of you might have better questions than some gaming forums, including ours.
So, you know, if you do you can email them to me at m@t✧✧✧@m3inf0r✧✧✧.✧0m
The idea of the thing is sort of "developers have to answer to the fans sort of thing" instead of just the reviewers getting to comment and criticize....

Playing Co-op, following "Killing in the Name Of", unlocking the "Sabotage" Encore at my friend's get-together the other night: Awesome.

That song is so fun to play though.
― polyphonic, Monday, 14 July 2008 16:27 (seventeen years ago)
Anyone picking up world tour next week?
― mayor jingleberries, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 19:32 (seventeen years ago)
Man, I gotta say I don't know if I can buy another fucking C-Note plastic Fisher Price instrument without beginning to feel badly about myself as a person but I do kinda want this.
― forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)
All the rock band stuff is compatible for GH4, just not GH3 and Aerosmith. Or do you want to pick up GH4 for the nu drumset?
― mayor jingleberries, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 22:32 (seventeen years ago)
― James Mitchell, Sunday, 22 February 2009 04:09 (sixteen years ago)
Hard times for Dorf.

Anyone play the PC/Mac version? With World Tour finally announced for PC/Mac, I was thinking about getting a cheap GHIII bundle. (I was kind of turned off before since there was a good chance they would try a PC port, it would fail, then we'd never see anymore GH games on the Mac ever again. Also it looks like they're going with PS3 instrument compatibility with the new one). Word has it, it was pretty crappy, but I was wondering if anyone here had personal experience with it...
