― zappi, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)
oh for fuck sake.
― Dy, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)
maybe you could just sign something when you buy it promising not to kill anyone.
― Dy, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)
I care :( The original was one of my favourite PS2 games. The middle levels where it starts to move away from shock value to genuine creepyness were frightening as hell.
I also care because like, what the fuck? Illegal to supply a VIDEO GAME? That's fucked up!
Suppose it's time to sort out playing import PS2 stuff finally, cos I'm totally not missing out on this one. I assume outside of buying an American Wii, it's impossible for me to play the Wii version on my UK console, right?
xpost (and otm)
― melton mowbray, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)
you could always import it from europe (except from france maybe, they have a different tv format there)
― zappi, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe they could even stick me on a waiting list and do background checks like if you try and buy a gun.
I have always adored this game, Mowbray spot on about the middle levels. It co-incided with me buying a much bigger TV and a decent surround sound system and the atmospherics just completely blew me away.
Luckily i have swapmagic for my ps2 so i can just important it but still, insanity.
― Dy, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)
Oh yes, Europe, of course! Here's hoping there's a PAL release for the Wii at all.
I'd go on the background check list! I'd even wear one of those tracking collars and stay on a curfew to play this.
We have all the display sleeves for this at work already, with a big fat BBFC 18 sticker on the front. I wonder what changed? I'll pinch them all tomorrow, paper the walls with them and cry myself to sleep in the middle of it all.

The "ban" could still be overturned on appeal according to the article... just like Carmageddon's ban was overturned a decade ago.
― Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)
This stuff about the original game inspiring a killing is a load of shite. The police pointed out at the time that the motive was robbery and that the game was owned and played by the 14 year old victim and not the murderer.
― onimo, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)
The original game was truly fucking vile, though I don't for a second consider it inspired murder, nor any other game.
I played it for a while but it was so impenetrably dark and horrible, that when the guy started shouting "KILL THAT DUMB FUCK" and stuff I kind of had to leave it.
I was starting to think of the voice in your ear as a sort of father figure.

Never actually played the first game. Seemed way too grisly and missing the point, like the Postal series.
― kingfish, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)
A lot of it was just wandering around in the dark waiting for something vile to happen in a very sudden scary way.
― Ronan, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)
I don't care.
I so wanted to like the first game, but I just found it boring.
I watched my mate play it and the atmostphere was fairly well done, but the gameplay was repetetive and limited.
I've tried replaying it thinking thing would be different, but alas no.
― Ste, Thursday, 21 June 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)
I've never played Manhunt. I do think censorship is fucking stupid and disgusting tho.
― Noodle Vague, Thursday, 21 June 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know, Postal2 deserves some credit for allowing players to use a cat as a silencer.
I think it's possible to complete Postal2 without killing anyone, but fuck that tbh.
― onimo, Thursday, 21 June 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)
Haha Onimo, ILG's Phoenix Wright. OTM btw.
I love Postal for the same reason as Manhunt. It was totally relentless and dark, in a really mature way you don't see in games often. Postal2 of course, was childish violence (though still great, for the aforementioned kitten thing, and being able to whip it out and pee on old ladies/animals/marching bands).
― melton mowbray, Thursday, 21 June 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)
killing people in various horrible ways = "mature"
― webber, Thursday, 19 July 2007 04:43 (eighteen years ago)
no, it's not "mature," it's "adults only" which is why we can't play it. :(
― marmotwolof, Thursday, 19 July 2007 04:56 (eighteen years ago)

looks like Rockstar are porting both Table Tennis & Bully over to the wii.
― zappi, Friday, 20 July 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)
god, Bully was such a let down.
― Ste, Friday, 20 July 2007 08:37 (eighteen years ago)
I always see it on sale and mean to pick it up.
― kv_nol, Friday, 20 July 2007 11:05 (eighteen years ago)
Bully on ps2: frightfully unecessary long loading points between going into buildings and areas. gloomy graphics, why ? WHY ? Messy unfun control system, again.
― Ste, Friday, 20 July 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)
I thought Bully was awesome! I mean, it wasn't GTA3, but that's an insane fucknig litmus test for any game
― Will M., Friday, 20 July 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)
Hmmm... Amazon (US) is listing Manhunt 2 with a Sept. 1st release date - I wonder if they know something we don't?
― Jeff LeVine, Friday, 20 July 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)
I liked Bully better than GTA... *runs away*
*runs back* No, but I thought it was really cool and didn't have trouble with any of the things Ste did.
― marmotwolof, Friday, 20 July 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)
Meh, don't ask me. I just find Manhunt and the first Postal so nasty they scare me shitless. This = mature, in comparison to my blue-skies-gazing-talking-animal-loving-jump-on-heads-to-banish foes self, and for that I sort of enjoy them.
― melton mowbray, Saturday, 21 July 2007 06:12 (eighteen years ago)
its getting a us release! http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/815/815446p1.html
― zappi, Friday, 24 August 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)
Is anybody planning to pick this up now that it's finally coming out next week?
― Jeff LeVine, Friday, 26 October 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)
Me.
― Dy, Monday, 29 October 2007 01:17 (eighteen years ago)
Anyone know if this sucks or not? (Wiiwise)
― John Justen, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)
Most reviews I've seen aren't terribly complimentary of any version, but the PS2 version seems to be a tad better reviewed than the Wii- reasons given range from the slightly-less-censored murderin' sequences to faults with the Wii control scheme.
― Telephone thing, Thursday, 8 November 2007 07:45 (eighteen years ago)
I'm pretty disappointed that, at least according to the plot summary on Wikipedia (I went and spoiled it for myself as I'm not planning to get it, just mildly curious about the story), everything I guessed at from reading previews turned out to be correct, including THE BIG PLOT TWIST that YOU WILL NEVER SEE COMING, HOLY SHIT.
