i need to get an xbox 360. they better release this in north america!

Will M., Monday, 9 July 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

i thought this stood for "Secret Weapons Over Scotland"

kingfish, Monday, 9 July 2007 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

five months pass...

It's coming out this wednesday, supposedly. I was just reminded that 800 points equals ten dollars. A little pricey?

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 17 December 2007 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

£7

that is a little pricey but I'll still plonk down... will be back on live over christmas as I'm up in glasgow for the holidays (no internet access in london suxx) so should be around for a game, if anyone fancies

czn, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

It went up and got pulled minutes later. Critical bug that DCs you from XB Live when you boot the game. I hope they fix it and re-release it soon :(

Will M., Wednesday, 19 December 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

Supposedly it's back up. Maybe / probably I'll download it this weekend...

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 21 December 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

I've given it a go. It's clear that it's a fun game, I don't quite get it yet, as I'm new to the game... I wish they had updated fake rosters, though. I don't know a lot of players from ten years ago, I am somewhat new to soccer... i pretty much know matt le tissier (whatever they call him) and teddy sheringham (whatever they call him).

Will M., Saturday, 22 December 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

has its issues, lag for one and other wee niggles but all in all pretty decent

forgot how much fun the career mode is, plus enjoying the nostalgia kick of the 96/97 names

the database of real names for the 96/97 swos roster is here btw for cross-ref:

How does setting up an online match work? Can you sort by ping/latency - or does it pretty much just drop you into whatever?

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 31 December 2007 08:02 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

Finally download this today before work. Only had time for one game and didn't do too good. The computer had 19 shots on my goal, while I was only able to get one shot on theirs (I lost 3-0). It's a lot faster than I'm used to, and confusing (by accident I picked two teams that both had blue uniforms, so that made it even more confusing).

Any hints about how to do better would be appreciated. As near as I can tell the only controls are moving and the A button - is that right?

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 31 March 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

yeh that's right. subtlety is in the tactics and deploying those at speed

if you're around later and I can get my xbox working fancy a game?

czn, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

absolutely.

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 31 March 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

I'm still at work for five more hours tho :(

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 31 March 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

I want to like this game, but I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Played a few more games tonight and I wasn't able to get a single fucking shot on goal against the computer - it's embarrassing.

I'm going to look around and see if I can find a video walkthru or something. Any hints would be appreciated. And I'll bring it up again - has anybody had any luck finding a decent third party 360 controller with a proper d-pad?

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 3 April 2008 06:02 (seventeen years ago)

The thing with Sensi is that you have to master the use of aftertouch. It really needs to be played with a Competition Pro joystick for maximum authenticity.

treefell, Thursday, 3 April 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)

^^ this and first time passes, almost all the time. sensi should sound like this : tump tump tump tump tump tump tump tump thoomp scccchhccchhcsscc

(based on the atari st version and my faltering memory, xbla versh may be completely different, i dunno)

Thomas, Thursday, 3 April 2008 12:10 (seventeen years ago)

WHOA jeff levine! synchronicity! i am just sending one of these back because it shipped broken...

http://www.madcatz.com/Images2/products/enlarge/4736.gif

the mad catz microcon has a much better dpad (although it is far from perfect), although the controller is actually very small-- if you hate the PS1 controller, stay away, altohugh mad catz DOES make a bigger version of this controller-- i haven't used it, though. i think it is virtually the same however.

Will M., Thursday, 3 April 2008 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

thomas otm - it's all about speed and keeping the ball moving

I think this is one of the games I've played so much of now that I couldn't explain how to play it at all, it's all just instinct now... seriously I must've clocked months playing this game.

I've been playing it on and off since I was 10 (???) and played it constantly for a good 3 years there in the mid-90s

czn, Thursday, 3 April 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

when was the first sensible soccer? 1992/93?

I can remember the first time playing that a friend's house, the memory is pretty fresh... 4ndrew w4ll4ce, where are you now?

benfica had more star players than all the other teams for some reason, iirc?

czn, Thursday, 3 April 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

I want to like this game, but I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Played a few more games tonight and I wasn't able to get a single fucking shot on goal against the computer.

I've probably tried to get into sensi about 10 times over the last 15 years, and this has always been my exact reaction.

JimD, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

oops.

JimD, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

I actually found a video and I think I figured out at least part of what I was doing wrong - I was just tapping the A button to pass or shoot, when apparently you need to keep it pressed down? Unfortunately when I went to try out this newly discovered science, is exactly when I found my 360 to have died.

Has there been any talk about a DS port of this game? That seems like it could be a really REALLY good fit.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 3 April 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

I wrote codemasters to ask if SWOS was going to come to other platforms (psp? ds? ps3?) and they wrote back...

Thank you for submitting your recent request to Codemasters Customer Services concerning Sensible World of Soccer.

We have announced that we will do a PC version of SOWS at some point but I am afraid we do not have a release date for it at the moment, please see www.codemasters.com for the latest information

Jeff LeVine, Sunday, 13 April 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

Er, the PC version of SWOS came out in, like, 1993 or something. I own it.

JimD, Sunday, 13 April 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

b-b-but I want "hd" graphics and online play! And for it to work in vista
