Old Amiga games about planets and exploration and towing

Does anyone remember a couple of games that involved planetary exploration in 3d that wasn't really space combat/opera based, but you had supplies, etc, etc--and could actually go down to the planet level? See monorails, etc? Argh, driving us crazy trying to remember. Wasn't Deuteros, but something by a European publisher (duh.)

:)

This sounds v. v. like Elite/Frontier, but I could be stupid for stating the obvious here (I was looking for the drunk thread.) These were both combat and opera based, so I absolutely am, right? I'd best head off to some thread about Sega or something before I embarrass myself further.

the monorail comment made me think of Syndicate. But I guess its not really "planetary exploration"?

Also sounds like Star Command, which was SSi.

Or my favorite game ever, Star Flight. It wasn't in 3-D and it didn't have monorails, but it had a great plot, a gigantic galaxy to explore, alien races (who you had to train your translator enough to interpret.. but you needed money for the training.. so you had to go mining for metals on nearby planets.. which took weeks.. etc.)

I don't think there are any ports or emulators for Star Flight, which is a shame. Look at these guys! These are the PROGRAMMERS:

two years pass...

nothing to do with this threads first post, but just been browsing some old C+vg mags online and gave a slight chuckle at this quote from a news preview of the Atari ST's first games. This particular one is referring to Mercenary, (perhaps Damocles)

"It is like watching an aeroplane fly around on TV. Honestly, that is NO EXAGGERATION"

lolz. they must have meant damocles, which was at least solid 3d, not wireframe. I had mercenary, but just used to spend a lot of time flying around and destroying buildings, couldn't get into the actual game.

i think it was, only a few episodes later they had a special on Damocles and the writer was doing backflips over how realistic it looked and how we would NEVER IN OUR LIFETIME EVER be able to experience this realism of space flight ever again.

To be fair, I've yet to come across any other game which did have as good a planet hopping experience.
