This movie is stunningly terrible but I really want to discuss its numerous plot holes and heavy handed misogyny! Did anyone else see it??? Most reviews I have read don't even attempt to discuss the lolstory. And yes, at the end it says "Game Over" ><

gonna see this if I can manage to swing it for free. expectations are pretty rock-bottom, no matter how much I liked Crank (and I'm even fans of both Dexter and Kyra Sedgwick)

Gamer is a 2009 science fiction action thriller film written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. The film stars Gerard Butler as an unwilling participant in an online game in which participants can control human beings as players. Gamer was released in North America and the United Kingdom on September 4, 2009.
Has this had much press in the UK? I seem to have slept on it.
feturing Milo Ventimiglia as Rick Rape, according to wiki.
― thomp, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 06:17 (sixteen years ago)
how the hell does your agent get you to sign on as Ricky Rape?
― bnw, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 21:25 (sixteen years ago)
more to the point, why would a scrawny dude as allergic to shirts as Milo Ventimiglia agree to be in a movie with shirtless Gerard Butler

no you see i am taking the morbs approach of condemning the unknown. altho i am sure he will not raise the banner for gamer but that is beside the point

wtf how was this good at all??? boring/nonsensical action sequences are completely unforgivable in a movie that is so shitty all around.

So bad, perversely worth watching for lols though.
But what an accurate picture of the future internet: The whole thing has turned into chatroulette meets facebook meets counterstrike with more boobs. Also obese shut-ins don't want to meet/go out/have sex with attractive women, they want to *be* them.
Also, apart from Six Feet Under (ironically) can Michael C Hall play a character that doesn't appear to be flamingly gay?

Indeed, Gamer is absolutely contemporary; no film since at least Southland Tales has said anywhere near as much about the world we actually live in today. Gamer is one of those rare films that truly dares to be (in the Lenin phrase I like to quote) “as radical as reality itself.”
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

couldn't make it past the first few paragraphs of that
this movie was honestly pretty indefensible (i mean even less so than super guilty pleasure Crank), but amusing. Michael C. Hall seemed to be the only one who understood what kind of movie he was really in
― Nhex, Monday, 6 September 2010 03:20 (fifteen years ago)
Only managed to watch about 40 mins of it before I gave up. Can't remember where I read it, but the review that said "this film tries to condemn the commercialisation of violence by making a commercial violent movie" was right.

Wait, are they implying that you're not going to get an eye full of dick opening Chatroulette and an entirely separate service is necessary to fill this niche? When did this happen?
