i have never bought a special edition game ever and i never will unless it's like mad cheaper than the reg. way too much junk in my life already.

I still have just about every box for every video game I've ever bought, so naturally I love these things - but weirdly enough I don't buy special editions all too often, mostly due to my cheapness

The special edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum comes with a full size Batarang FFS. But other than that, most SEs aren't worth the money.

Ha, I remember the shop I was working in at the time having 5 copies of that lunar set sitting on a shelf for about 2 years. Think we ended up selling them for £8 each.

and now they're going for hundreds on eBay.

How has nobody mentioned the special edition of MW2? The thing comes with night vision goggles. Night vision goggles used to be my like ne plus ultra of coolness and that was when they cost thousands of dollars. Now you can get a pair for a tiny premium on a game everyone in the world is going to cop anyway. I'd say that's a good deal, and I'm barely restraining myself from it personally.

what do u guys think about steelbooks? I think they are rad; I have one for MvC3 and even had a UK friend order me a copy of the Yakuza 4 SE just since it had one (thankfully it came out to approximately $65 even after shipping and everything). much better option than cluttering up my already Hoarders-esque apartment with boxes and statues and stands and cat helmets and etc.

in other news, the SE for Catherine is just plain creepy.

i have only ever bought two "special editions" and i think in both cases it was because they were the only way to get the game (persona 3 w/ art book; growlanser v with some shit).

my former student worker is all grown up now and has a job and spends his income cornering amiibo markets and pre-ordering like 10 fire emblem collector's editions and then selling them to nerds on ebay at absurd prices. like 2x or 3x retail.

haha. yeah it makes sense that the market is actually p easy to game since resellers have such a wide return window. kinda interesting to know at what point the desirability and scarcity of these increased to where reselling became profitable. i own so many shitty PS2 special editions that are probably worth less than the regular versions

i'm not an amiibo collector but i understand the hate towards those resellers, makes it much harder for the "normal" collectors who just want a specific piece. of course, you can also blame Nintendo for blatantly underproducing these items - seems they're particularly guilty in these rackets
