I notice that punctuation doesn't matter (re: the religion square), but does spelling matter? E.g. does "cows" open up "cow"?

There's apparently some kind of meta clue that's part of the purpose (go ahead and read the hints--it doesn't give anything away). Spelling seems to matter sometimes and not others, so far as I have seen.

OK I cheated my way to the end. The left half of the meta-puzzle doesn't relate to the answer, very unsatisfying. And how is "mafia" related to "scientology"? D&D related to computer games but not board games?

It starts great, gets maddening then great for a bit, and then in the end the returns diminish to nil. Seems like a great idea, I'd love to see one that's less focussed on obscure details of uncommon interests.
