Actually I thought the escort mission in Bioshock was handled pretty well. It was a weird one though, since it really didn't seem to matter if you were successful or not. But then again, it was weird game, since there was basically no penalty for screwing things up

There's no way to handle an escort mission well. I wonder if you still get Little Sister Savior if you let one of the girls die, though. I didn't even let the Sister take a hit, I just reloaded if she did. That game was so easy I started making up challenges like that for myself. Still GOTY so far, though.

I let three little sisters die on the escort mission and I still bagged the little sister saviour achievement; I got like 600 gamer points on that one run-through, it's insane!!!

also, I've said it before and I'll say it again: FUCK an escort mission

escort missions in RTS games are why I always quit playing the storylines in RTS games

also this is the main flaw in the Fire Emblem series: Every stage is a bit of a fucking escort mission, except you have to let your escort character get some kills in or they'll just keep sucking for the entire game

I have no problems with fetch quests as long as there's some other good shit along the way that I get to keep

I just finished playing the main quest in Oblivion, and the escort quests were by far the shittiest in the game. This is partly a function of Oblivion's leveling mobs to your level, but not necessarily to the escort character's level. So you get to play doctor to the idiot. I rarely had to save/load in Oblivion, except on the escort quests.

I'd do 100 fetch quests for Neeshka <3 <3

i was going to start a thread on an issue the cousin of this one maybe called 'hardcore gamer bullshit' but i thought the applications of that were a little broad so didn't

best example in my recent gamesplaying is getting past the 1st fake ending in castlevania: dawn of sorrow--like okay you have to go and get the thing in the mirror, so you need to keep exploring until you find the monster soul that lets you go in mirrors, except to get that you have to get the souls of three other monsters--except not in any kind of clever application of skill way*, you just need them-- so you go back to somewhere you were ages ago and have to spend ABOUT AN HOUR GOING IN AND OUT OF ONE ROOM KILLING ONE ENEMY UNTIL IT DROPS THE SOUL-- this is one tenth of the game!gsdilihgsldkh

*by 'clever application of skill' i don't mean any cleverer than "oh look! that platform is high! i could probably reach it if only i could DOUBLE JUMP"-- this is dumber than that

this stuff makes me doubly angry because i get angry and then i realise i'm in my 20s and getting angry about videogames

Or you could just soft-reset/reload everytime you die. But yeah, it's a design flaw. I think I was only missing like 2 or 3 stars to completion when I gave up.

not a fetch quest but an annoying mission on x-wing alliance was to check a load of containers, in 3 different regions. So so so so tedious, especially as it was quite easy to fuck up if you didn't shoot the pirate in time.
