Best Wii Games

List them here!

I got a Wii two weeks ago and am really enjoying it so far. I got Tiger Woods Golf 08 which is pretty great, and it came with Wii sports which is obviously great also (bowling, tennis, and baseball) in particular.

What other games are really good? Any others that use the control system particularly well? How is Zelda?

Ronan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

Excite Truck is more fun than it deserves to be, especially once you start playing with your own soundtrack.

aldo, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

Is it a driving game?

Ronan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

half driving, half flying

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

I mean yes technically it is a "racer"

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

though it is far and away the most ludicrously unrealistic racing game I have ever played, including F-Zero and Mario Kart

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Twilight Princess is/was my Game Of The Year. I felt the controls were fantastic personally, even as the wolf.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

you may or may not enjoy Metroid Prime depending on your attitude towards very drawn-out boss fights

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

I think Metroid Prime is still not out here yet, but it's got really good reviews everywhere. Twilight Princess sounds cool, I always loved Zelda but never quite got into the N64 ones. I liked Resident Evil when I played it except that I don't know if I ever want to play an RE game again after RE2. Being terrified (by zombies combined with a lack of decent control system to escape them) is not fun!

Ronan, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

RE4 = they are crazy cult members, not zombies, and the controls have been completely overhauled.

marmotwolof, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

I thought you didn't have a Wii yet!

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

I played it on GC. It's already a world of difference control wise from RE2 and the other PS1/DC/GC games, and the Wii version is supposed to be even easier.

marmotwolof, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

easy is where I do my best work

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

I figured as much.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm trying to play Dead Rising on 360 right now, it's almost making me wish I liked easy games. Not to mention how stupid hard Persona 3 is getting near the top of Tartarus.

marmotwolof, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 00:40 (eighteen years ago)

MARIO GALAXY LOOKS AMAZING

jhøshea, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 00:42 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah if I'm going to get a Wii for anything, it will be that.

marmotwolof, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

super paper mario just dropped so i'd definitely get that

r1o natsume, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

paper mario is pretty great.

0) (hoping for) mario galaxy
1) twilight princess
2) super paper mario
3) metroid prime -- too bossy

This is so OTM for me right now

Will M., Monday, 24 September 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

I beat that shit already. It's really not that bad once you get Frank past Lv. 12 or so, he's really weak before that. You can even restart with your stats if you want to power level first, but I just soldiered through it and the game got really fun after that.

I'm about halfway through Eternal Sonata right now, which I think I like even more than Persona.

marmotwolof, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 00:52 (eighteen years ago)

Any opinions on Rayman Raving Rabbids? Price just dropped, I am hungry for new Wii games. (not that I'm running out of things to do in Zelda and Paper Mario, just need a no brain break every once in a while).

Bump.

I've finished Resident Evil 4 and that was ace. However most games for the Wii that look like I might like them seem to get shit reviews all the time.

Is Scarface any good? Tomb Raider Anniversary? Anyone got any other recommendations? Particularly older/cheaper games, cos fuck paying £40 for a game tbh.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Monday, 27 October 2008 12:16 (seventeen years ago)

zak & wiki
super mario galaxy

zak and wiki make a porno

s1ocki, Monday, 27 October 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

Anniversary is a great Tomb Raider game, but I played it on PS using a gamepad, I don't know what the Wii controls are like.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 27 October 2008 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

De Blob is really good game, if you are a fan of Katamari then you'd love it. the controls aren't perfect, the levels are far too long with no save points, the draw distance is too short, the camera goes a bit wonky at times etc etc but the sheer charm & addictive "must paint every building" gameplay wins through.

OK so I just moved home where we have a Wii and I just picked up MadWorld and Zack & Wiki, and they are fun and all but I keep longing for the sort of sprawling, engaging gameplay of, say, FF VIII or Ocarina of Time. What should I pick up next? Twilight Princess is on my to-do list (though I hate spending over $20 on a game) but really I'm looking for something looooong that can't just beat in a few days or a week. I hear Okami's good too, and of course SM Galaxy was one of the best games I've ever played and I will be picking up SMG2 when it's more affordable.

cynthia batter blaster (Stevie D), Monday, 28 June 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

but I keep longing for the sort of sprawling, engaging gameplay

but that's not really what the Wii is known for, is it?

I haven't played them myself, but I've heard a few people say good things about Little King's Story, Monster Hunter Tri & Shirin the Wanderer - maybe for a little of that longer experience - you may want to look up some info on those? In regards to Okami, I found the controls to be very annoying / semi-broken, ymmv.

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

Resident Evil 4 is great on the Wii.

Still searching for that elusive great two player game

Flowers By Pete (admrl), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 03:40 (fifteen years ago)

Mario Kart maybe but something a bit more involving?

Flowers By Pete (admrl), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

you mean local 2 player? and not a 2D platformer?

zappi, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

Local 2 player. Any kind of game, really. Simultaneous two-person play preferred

Flowers By Pete (admrl), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

New Super Mario Bros Wii is the best local 2-4 player game i've ever played. they are bringing out a Donkey Kong Country game & a Kirby game this year with simultaneous 2 player controls.
The Trauma Center games have simultaneous co-op gameplay modes which are fun.
if you like soccer the PES games have great co-op modes.
and of course there are the lightgun games, House of The Dead Overkill is probably the best, but is very very sweary.

zappi, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)

Smooth Moves, although it helps if you are insane.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)

oh and Monster Hunter Tri, but i haven't played that yet.

zappi, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:17 (fifteen years ago)

I had a lot of fun the one time I played New Super Mario Bros Wii 2-player. Soccer games are always good. Also MLB Power Pros. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

zelda: toilet paper is ridiculously stretched out. it is long enough for you but as a consequence it takes an hour to get a sword, an hour to get a shield, etc.

the most horrifying moment in shallow grave (abanana), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

NSMB was loads of fun in co-op, though Penny Arcade was on the right track calling it "Divorce Mode". It may be most (hilariously) anti-cooperative cooperative game I've played since Gunstar Heroes.

Should I get

Zelda: Twilight Princess or Mad World or Okami or Resident Evil 4?

Henry's Hepcat (admrl), Sunday, 15 August 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

Would be swayed by anything 2 player so I can play with my wife. Also she is fan of old school Zelda and doesn't like game violence...

Henry's Hepcat (admrl), Sunday, 15 August 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

RE4 is definitely the best of those (haven't played madworld but i hear it's not very good)

for 2P, boom blox bash party and wii sports resort

Mosquepanik at Ground Zero (abanana), Sunday, 15 August 2010 22:32 (fifteen years ago)

haha, great display name

Henry's Hepcat (admrl), Sunday, 15 August 2010 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

Madworld is extremely fun but not very challenging, and sort of short. But it's certainly worth the $7 it cost last time I checked Amazon.

Chanté Ackerman (Stevie D), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 03:46 (fifteen years ago)

For 2 player, go for any of the Lego games (except batman, that's a bit poor). The most fun my gf and I have had on the Wii is on House of The Dead: Overkill, which is an awesome on-rails zombie shooter presented as a shitty 70s horror b-movie, but maybe your wife doesn't like shooting zombies . . .

I'm being a smartass here, but in a fun way (NotEnough), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 16:44 (fifteen years ago)

HOTD:overkill is good good times, have spent several nights doing drunken jump in group runs through that one

What is your nomination for the WEIRDEST game for Wii?

Holy crap Dolphin is AMAZING. Playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii right now in 1080p and it looks pretty flawless. It's even not that big a chore to play using mouse & keyboard! I'm checking out Super Mario Galaxy 2 later.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 25 June 2012 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

It's just all the more amazing because I remember going to the library (back in the AOL days) to dl SNES9X and have it struggle with playing the simplest 16-bit games. Dolphin is really damn impressive!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 25 June 2012 15:32 (thirteen years ago)

Have you got much grunt? I remember trying out Dolphin about a year ago on my rig (quad-core 3GHz 4G ram) and it was awfully stuttery. I put it down to not having enough oomph - has it got much better?
