IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- NOVEMBER 25, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today launched the official website and video trailer for Shiren the Wanderer™, the upcoming Wii™ entry in the long heralded Shiren series. The video, which features a healthy mix of gorgeous CG cutscenes and in-game action, introduces fans to the game's mythology-laden, vaguely-homosexual tale, as narrated by your talking ferret companion Koppa.

"Well, we did so well localizing a game where the player dies every 10-20 minutes, we thought we'd bring over an even gayer, slightly harder game" commented Crystal Murray, PR Specialist at Atlus. "The priapic ronin Shiren and his ever-prattling sidekick Koppa set out on an epic millennium-spanning journey, steeped in Japanese mythology. Join them as they as they race to unlock the secrets of a mystical land, where the battle robots and magic serpents. There's a girl character, inexplicably, but she mostly wears impractical outfits and speaks in heartfelt monosyllables. We have a website if you want to check it out."

When you're done viewing and reviewing the trailer, head on over to the recently opened official game website ( http://www.atlus.com/shiren), which will further verse you on everything Shiren, showering you with additional art, info, and more.

Exceptionally reviewed by famed Japanese gaming publication Famitsu (9/9/8/9), this latest entry in the legendary series stands as one of the most addictive, highly rewarding, and endlessly replayable games available on Wii, not to mention the most accessible Shiren game yet.

Shiren the Wanderer for Wii is currently scheduled for release on February 9, 2010. Visit the official website at http://www.atlus.com/shiren.

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Monday, 14 December 2009 05:45 (fifteen years ago)

you know, the DS version was really less fun than I wanted it to be but atlas always gets benefit of the doubt.
i just got little king story, should play that before tryin' this.

that is a whole discussion within itself that is worth debating (forksclovetofu), Monday, 14 December 2009 05:48 (fifteen years ago)

i say this as sum1 that will actively rep for nancy drew video games but little kings story is a lvl of aidstarded that i just cannot bring myself to fuk with... almost rather play jumble ds or w/e jamescobo game

lamp, did you give lil' king a spin?

that is a whole discussion within itself that is worth debating (forksclovetofu), Monday, 14 December 2009 05:58 (fifteen years ago)

naw its the polygonal chibi looken art + terrible story + the fact that i paid money for my life as a king already + i mean really im 25 u no - cant keep impersonating boy king naifs need to start killing ppl w/shotguns or w/e

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Monday, 14 December 2009 06:05 (fifteen years ago)

lamp, you're killing me, asking me to read your junk text

I predict this will bomb as badly as Shiren DS did. how was that? I doubt it could have been much worse than the SFC version which was pretty solid. Or was it?

lol i was hoping most ppl would just skip the press release - ilx easter eggs - also revenge for having had 2 work in pr for so many years

oh unless u meant my normal crappy posts

dont lurk gaf enough to rc but i dont ~think~ it ever hit the npd charts. doubt they lost much (if any money) on it though. still surprised they bothered w/a real console (*Wink*) release but atlus usa had their best year ever in 2009

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Monday, 14 December 2009 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

i.e. they can probably afford to gamble a little bit esp since they dont want nis to continue to snag titles from them

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Monday, 14 December 2009 06:17 (fifteen years ago)

Atlus had their best year ever? But they released like a kajillion DS games that nobody bought! Or so I thought.

Nhex, Monday, 14 December 2009 06:26 (fifteen years ago)

all their major releases beat or met sales expectations except maybe p4 (think they hit the 150K eventually) - no longer have access to extended npd charts and cant be bothered to google annual reports for atlus jp but im reasonably certain theyve had a really good year on the strength of their core series also i mean theyve being hiring steadily in the 2nd half of 09 fwiw

i have no idea what kind of loss they take on stuff like class of heroes but i due think that atlas usa is willing to take a loss on like robot taisen and others in order to maintain those relationships for the once in while title that blows up (e.g. knights in the nightmare or demon's souls)

i no atlus jp was basically bankrupt for a minute due to loses in their arcade business but theyve also done p well iirc

aaaaaaaand feel free to sb for gaf talk sry

囧 (dyao), Monday, 14 December 2009 06:51 (fifteen years ago)

probably because you had preloaded my cognition with all yer hard puns

囧 (dyao), Monday, 14 December 2009 06:51 (fifteen years ago)

Wait - Knights in the Nightmare did well? That's exactly the kind of title I would've guessed would disappear without a trace (like The Dark Spire or Steal Princess, or whathaveyou). Damn, too bad this data isn't available publically, at least through a self-congratulatory press release.

Like Devil Survivor - that reviewed pretty well, but did it sell well? It seems largely forgotten now, though I think Gamasutra put it as #1 on their handheld list for the year. I don't remember anyone on this board even mentioning it.

Might and Magic seems to be getting so much review hype, everyone calling it a sleeper hit. I picked it up cuz of the BB sale, but probably won't get around to it till next month.

(Yes, please chill on the GAF talk... or at least try to keep it contained to short lone sentences ;_;)

Jesus Christ, Lamp, start using punctuation or non-AOL-speak. We ain't Gamefaqs.

kingfish, Monday, 14 December 2009 07:39 (fifteen years ago)

lol

nhex - i remember reading or maybe being told by an atlus rep that knights hit 50K+. the not so reliable vgchartz has it at about 40K in north america. the latest atlus report put devil survivor at 50K in north america as well, beating a 20K projection. and i have mentioned devil survivor a few times on ilg and put in my top 10 *shrug* these aren't world beating #s by any stretch but they do make money

also things like the devil survivor 2 box - limited print runs, higher price points - i still couldnt tell u how they make any money on psp games though. a quick google search shows that class of heroes did okay in japan (#1 seller on the psp for a couple of weeks lol) but i mean that seems ill-advised at best

really i guess who cares - it seems undeniable that there is small but increasing and above all spend-y market for these kind of titles in north america, and someone is going to publish them - if not atlus than nis and if not them then someone else. its a long time ago that working designs went broke, bro

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Monday, 14 December 2009 07:54 (fifteen years ago)

oh and i don't think the might and magic ds game is an atlus title (although i bet they'd like to have it)

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Monday, 14 December 2009 07:57 (fifteen years ago)

Whoops - you're right, it's Ubisoft.

Why I care is pretty much what you said, I guess - I'm surprised Atlus is pushing out so many of these games and isn't going under like Working Designs. Hell, I just picked up a clearanced Dark Spire (with soundtrack CD!) brand new for $5 at GS. I think it's fantastic they can do what they're doing, though I'm unlikely to ever buy those deluxe editions at full price.

Nhex, Monday, 14 December 2009 08:03 (fifteen years ago)

hah i've been working on an end of the decade piece abt this actually (lol, zing) trying to talk about why the market for these kind of imports seems so much bigger than before - i mean disgaea: hour of darkness was a ps2 greatest hit! - and what it ~all means~ but its interesting that the north american audience for niche titles whether its rougelikes, strategy rpgs, 2d fighters, shmups (i think? jeff?) has never been better served

i mean lol @ 12 year old me paying way too much money for a famicom and a jap final fantasy v but now you can get psn releases of armored core sideprojects

i got really excited about this for a minute and then realised it's not going to be one of those games i can really get the gist of by playing for a couple hours on a friend's wii

thomp, Monday, 14 December 2009 10:40 (fifteen years ago)

Lamp, I hope you mention the whole weird GQD/black label reprint cycle with regard to Disgaea... I think it's pretty undocumented
