Sega Rally Revo?

Has anybody here picked this up? I'm debating...

The Eurogamer review makes it sound like the kind of racing game I might be looking for, "Not since Burnout 2 has a driving game stood out as so completely different to everything else, and provided so much instant, moreish entertainment to such a high technical standard. To find a game that strips out the pointless and unnecessary padding and gets back to, you know, making the actual racing the fun bit is worthy of celebration on its own, but to then underpin the whole thing with deformable tracks is a masterstroke."

Though most others seem less enthusiastic

Yeah I played the demo (on PS3 mind, dunno if that changes anything), and I wasn't impressed at all. Arcade racers are fun and all but the "tap left to spin your car 720 degrees" factor is like 10 times worse than Ridge Racer.
You don't lose much speed crashing into things either so it isn't hard to do well just letting the invisible walls turn for you.
It's not a terrible game, but Colin McRae isn't exactly a hardcore simulation anyway, and I suspect that has a bunch more tracks/modes (and looks muuuuuuch prettier)

Basically Metacritic OTM
It apparently has six player multiplayer though, that could be awesome!

one year passes...

Playing this tonight and it's actually quite fun, but so far VERY hard (did ten races and came in last every time except once when I came in 4th). I'm sure as I play more and get better at controlling the cars I'll do better, at least I hope so. The graphics are great and with a wheel it's frightfully immersive & very fast even in the beginner races. If anybody is looking for a fun, classic feeling arcade racer - now that the price is way down on this it's probably worth checking out before it disappears completely.

ten months pass...

Every time I put this game in, I feel a little bit like it's an unjustly ignored classic. Really, it plays just like the old Sega Rally arcade games, but with gorgeous HD graphics and deformable tracks. I do kind of know why it has been ignored though - as it's brutally, exhaustingly difficult & poorly structured. Progress in the game can seem like a chore, as you have to complete a series of three, three lap races throughout the championship mode (maybe more laps in the later modes(?), I've yet to unlock them), with no saving in between races. The AI drivers are completely ruthless and if you make more than a couple small mistakes in a race, you're pretty fucked. All that said, the racing in the game is incredibly fun and has an incredible sense of speed - sometimes overwhelmingly so, the game can make me a bit car sick! In theory, online is where Sega Rally Revo should be shining most, but at this point it's a ghost town - I couldn't find a game to save my life :(

Tried again and found a handful of people racing online & had some good games. Still totally smooth even though they were mostly showing red bars from probably halfway around the world. I wonder if more people are still playing on 360 - might be worth the double dip. There's certainly no other (current) racer quite like this one. Anybody on here have the 360 version?
