Dark Void - the one with the jetpack and the shooter and whatever?

its like a terrible shooter crossed with a crappy arcade flight sim! with added pointless button mashing cutscenes that add even less than you would expect and have no cinematic value!

srsly, any anticipation i may have had for this has gone 100% bionic commando.

i am starting to think that between "dark void" and "dark sector" that this naming convention might be KISS OF DEATH. good luck "darksiders"

actually Darksiders is getting a fair bit of love so far. maybe I'll pick it up in two months when it's on sale for like $20.

/no cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 7 January 2010 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

Darksiders looks like the n64s Zeldas with less charm.

I feel the same way about Dark Void. I was on board with the whole jetpack concept but it looks like theres so much to fuck up that I cant see it being done right.

Those Mass Effect teasers look good tho. Even tho the game looks 300% darker than the last one.

mayor jingleberries, Thursday, 7 January 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

Darksiders looks like a massive amount of fun tbh

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 20:08 (fifteen years ago)

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

there are exceptions, this is true.

the main point here is that the "dark void" demo was just stunningly bad, rivaled only by "darkest of days", which is another point for my theory

.81818181818181818181818181 changed everything (jjjusten), Thursday, 7 January 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

i think darksiders looks pretty good too. it is the game everyone is waiting for someone else to play first.

btw john, late on this i know but a+ username.

aarrissi-a-roni, Thursday, 7 January 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i never know whether people arent getting the joke or i am not as funny as i think i am. its a grower.

worst demo so far tho has to be that CSI pile of garbage, which srsly looks like a cd-rom adventure someone might have put out in the late 90's

The CSI demo was HILARIOUS.

not sure if this is cross platform but split second demo? GARBAGE

Q: What's brown and Sticky? A: The insect that lives in your stomach (jjjusten), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

Splitslashsecond won't hit the PS3 for a couple of weeks. Does look crappish (as does Blur, the other upcoming cheesy racer).

Ok mafia II is looking pretty good imo

F-Unit (Ste), Friday, 13 August 2010 08:17 (fifteen years ago)

just had a quick go, seems okay in a gta-way. cheesy goodfellas quotes etc but was expecting that. will give it proper blast later.

F-Unit (Ste), Friday, 13 August 2010 12:59 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't like how it handled. Looked nice though.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Friday, 13 August 2010 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

I tried it Mafia II out yesterday on PC and wasn't into it - still just felt like a GTA knock off. I did sort of like the old fashioned cars and brick buildings, but the city felt a little sterile overall and the too familiar clunky GTA style gameplay just bored me senseless (shoot those guys out the window, run thru a building shooting some guys, escort a guy out of a building on fire and falling apart, drive away getting the cops off your tail). Absolute skip in my book.

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 13 August 2010 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

Terrover for PS3 is pretty neat but also pretty frustrating.

8o---e*.\\\||///.*ə---o8 (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 August 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

really pleased to read these descriptions of mafia ii (a gta mafia knockoff is a good in my book). been waiting years for this game, cannot wait to play

NI, Saturday, 14 August 2010 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i really went in expecting to be kinda disappointed, but judging by the demo the game totally delivers - got to be honest, one of the things that really grabbed me is the idea of playing a game where all the music is old shit, too much xgames driving game emopunk soundtrack shit in my videogame life at this point.

gg eileen (jjjusten), Saturday, 14 August 2010 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

I love the Hydro Thunder 360 demo & will buy the full game soon-ish, but I have been a fan of Hydro Thunder since the 90s.

dead rising 2 arcade demo is going to do more harm than good for the full release imo. sucked.

however this "Vanquish" thing that i had honestly not even heard of until the demo popped up seems kinda awesome in some sort of mech + gears of war + OMG KILL TAHT HUEG THING sort of way. couple of the controls seem kinda iffy tho (this dumb dash thing works not so much). also oh look more bullet time zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Cat Bin Ladyn (jjjusten), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

Vanquish is the new project from Platinum Games/Clover so if it's anything less than spectacular I will be shocked. would have copped the demo last night but my share group got Shank & Castle Crashers and by the time all 2+GB downloaded I was ready for bed.

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

i didnt even bother with shank because the goddamn demo is like 1.5 Gb. wtf?

also the preview screens gave me the "this game is prob not for me" phears

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

not shocked, looked like a crappy newgrounds game

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

gf raping

really

goole, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

im still kinda boggling at how crap the DR 2 demo was - i mean i am assuming that there is no direct crossover between the actual game and this shoddy little thing, but who in the world would think that releasing a laughably awful prequel would do anything other than hurt sales for your final product? No lie, the character models are like sub "Deadly Premonition", the weapon creation makes no sense, the voice acting (particularly the ugggggh child actor) is dreadful, scripting is dumb. The cutscenes actually maybe looked worse than the actual game which doesn't look all that good either, and theres a kinda crappy control reaction time and hit detection thing going on. way to go, guys!

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

scott pilgrim is fun, like a lesser castle crashers.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

i didnt even bother with shank because the goddamn demo is like 1.5 Gb. wtf?[

like most demos for PSN shit, it's actually the entire game; when you buy the "full game" you actually just get like a 6kb patch which unlocks all the content.

love Scott Pilgrim! it reminds me more of River City Ransom than Castle Crashers but I should probably give Castle Crashers another shot now that I actually own it. h8 that there's no online co-op in Scott Pilgrim though.

GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 22:44 (fifteen years ago)

I read really good things about the DR2 demo! It's a good thing I read this thread first, I was literally about to buy it when I noticed this thread was updated and figured it was due to that.

Mordy, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

BAN BELOUIS SOME (jjjusten), Thursday, 9 September 2010 05:58 (fourteen years ago)

Bahahahahaha this "quantum theory" demo is one for the ages, it's like a low rent doom 3 mixed with a dumbed down gears of war clone that also happens to look like poo.

holy crap this asuras wrath demo is krazy, but the bigger question is whther there is actually a game here or just a button mashing interactive movie

blurgh (jjjusten), Thursday, 12 January 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

soooo kingdom of arular does not benefit for coming late to the table after skyrim, yeesh. looks and plays like fable, but seems to take itself pretty seriously. awful

final fantasy XIII-2 is even more interactive movie than expected, w/added pokemon and dueling hyper-irritating vote dividers the lady who dresses as a chocobo and whatever that kirby looking thing is that keeps bouncing around with you all the time. also big shock, this shit seems to be totally incomprehensible.

i played another demo i disliked but i cant remember what it was at the moment.

blurgh (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:37 (thirteen years ago)

I downloaded Kingdom of Arular but haven't fired it up yet. Still trudging through Skyrim.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:39 (thirteen years ago)

oh actually it was the darkness II demo and it was pretty ok! the influence of pseudo cel-shading continues but looks pretty decent in this, targeting is a bit wonky but ok, main problem might be that unless things are more ramped up in the legit version you seem to be pretty overpowered. also its no bulletstorm, although man you can tell that it really really wants to be.

blurgh (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

on the plus side the kingdoms of arular demo is crazy crazy long, so youll have plenty of time to decide what you think of it. i think after a lengthy intro section they give you 45 minutes of free roam, but i lost interest about 15 minutes in and called it a day.

blurgh (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

I'll give it a go. It's not out for a few weeks so I have plenty of time, right?

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

Well, I played about 30 minutes of the demo and Kingdoms of Arular isn't Fable, it's feeble. Generic MMO made into a single player game.

Yuck.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 02:17 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it was kind of stunningly bad in a "well i guess its too late to pull the plug" sorta way.

blurgh (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

I heard the producers on a podcast and they were talking about how revolutionary the combat was etc etc with a completely straight face (well, voice, but you know what I mean). Referenced God Of War as a touchstone to the combat. This wasn't even as good as Fable or Darksiders, let alone God Of War. Hell, Sacred 2 had better combat, and that was a modified point-and-clicker.

I have no idea why this game was made or what the market is for it. I know Fable isn't on PS3, but really?

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

isn't that the game some baseball guy sunk millions of $$$s into?

zappi, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

yep.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)

curt schilling. i guess he is a huge WOW fan or something and his dream was to make a console MMORPG but late in the day they took a drastic right turn and made it sp. game prob should have been renamed Horrible of Horrible: Horrible right then and there

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 26 January 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

The WOW fandom shows in all the design choices. Cartoony and glowing and odd, without any character of it's own.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)

blurgh (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 January 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

Asura's Wrath is pretty amusingly stupid - gonna wait for a price drop. Worth a try if you like super ridiculous, earth shattering anime superman fighting and speechifying. The game basically seems to be 90% QTEs!

three weeks pass...

Spent the afternoon at the eurogamer expo, tried and/or saw a bunch of stuff.

Wii U: screen on the tablet is surprisingly high quality and surprisingly responsive. Existing Wiimote plus will work with the new console...but original Wiimote with plus adaptor won't!

Super Mario Bros U: only demos were five player ones, just felt hectic and random and probably a bit pointless.

Nintendoland: as above.

Wonderful 101: odd control dynamic, you control a bunch of characters at once by getting them to club together in various formations. Wasn't very intuitive, and the fact I couldn't quite work out what was going on didn't seem to impede my progress at all, so it's maybe too easy.

Zombie U: really promising actually, only U game there that felt like it'd done a decent job of properly incorporating the tablet into the gameplay, except for...

Rayman Legends: looked and felt beautiful, and does "player two uses touchscreen to help out" in a really inventive way which put Mario Bros U to shame.

Dishonoured: looks amazing, feels pretty close to bioshock in terms of gameplay and in terms of world design.

Little Big Planet Karting: remember muppet racemania? That.

Super Sony everyone smashing each other up brothers: even more of a shameless smash bros clone than it first appears, feels exactly the same. Roster much less interesting obviously (although parappa was nice to see).

Carmageddon on IOS: yay!

Prison Architect: I'd never heard of this and didn't get to play it myself but it looked pretty intriguing.

Lots and lots of other stuff: franchise sequels, meh.

JimD, Sunday, 30 September 2012 20:33 (twelve years ago)

Existing Wiimote plus will work with the new console...but original Wiimote with plus adaptor won't!
errrrr wut? how is this possible?

zappi, Sunday, 30 September 2012 20:37 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, hard to believe there's a tech reason for it, seems like its just an intentional lockout of older accessories, although I don't get why they'd do something so shitty. Almost easier to believe the rep who told me this was just wrong, but he seemed pretty sure of himself. Dunno.

JimD, Sunday, 30 September 2012 20:48 (twelve years ago)

the official website says "You can still use your Wii Remote Plus (or Wii Remote) controllers and Nunchuk controllers with Wii U" but that could be just referring to backwards compatibility. deeply weird decision if what the rep says turns out to be true.

zappi, Sunday, 30 September 2012 20:56 (twelve years ago)

i played the Sony Smash clone at a BB today - i'm calling it now, the characters are too small / overly detailed. the characters need to be big and distinguishable as a cartoon to be playable

Nhex, Sunday, 30 September 2012 23:51 (twelve years ago)

but yeah it feels almost exactly like Smash

Nhex, Sunday, 30 September 2012 23:51 (twelve years ago)
