c&p'd from GAF:

- 2 Modes, 1 is called Classic Campaign, plays pretty much identical to previous NBA Jams, 3v3, no rules other than shot clock and goaltending. The other is called Remix Tour, which is different, changing the core mechanics, rule tweaks, and camera tweaks etc. The devs didnt want to go into detail on the Remix Tour mode yet.

- Theres tons of new dunks, a new spin move that can evade the shove move.

- The faces are actual photograph captures, each character has multiple faces, 3 faces while running the court, 2 dunk faces, and a positive and negative face. (Looks hilarious.
Basically its 3d bodies with 2d heads)

- Option of motion controls or holding the wiimote sideways. Didnt see any mention of the Classic Controller

- NP provided a checklist of what is in the game:

Fire
Shattering Backboard
Cheats
Flashing Shoes
Flashing ball
Big Head Mode
Legends
Playable Mascots
Secret Characters

I love that pic of Hillary!

I just played this in emulation this morning, but it's not much fun on a keyboard. I always wondered why they didn't keep updating it; it was the funnest sports game ever, up there with College Football 97 for Genesis. I still look for basketball vgs with as much arcadey stoopidity as this one but they're too damn complicated (Street I'm looking at you).

Euler, Thursday, 14 January 2010 09:59 (sixteen years ago)

yeah I'm hoping because this is on wii that it'll be as straight up arcadey as the original jam

it'd be great if they were able to license some of the older players so you could have classic NBA JAM teams

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:58 (sixteen years ago)

THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN!

/no cobo (jamescobo), Monday, 18 January 2010 21:28 (sixteen years ago)

Earlier I was looking up NBA Jam catchphrases to make sure I didn't miss anything ("hello ladeeez, this is how ZS rolls during the afternoon"), and came upon a list of things that the announcer says in the Genesis version. And I noticed that a few of them aren't in the SNES version (which was the one I played). Here's the list:

Boom Shaka Laka! - (my personal favorite!)
Can't buy a bucket!
For two!
Grabs the rebound!
He's heating up!
He's on fire!
Head fake
Hello!
Is it the shoes?
It's a turnover!
Jams it in!
Oh my!
Puts up a brick!
Rejected!
Swish!
The nail in the coffin!

CATBEAST!! (Z S), Monday, 18 January 2010 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, the "(my personal favorite!)" was in the guy's list. My personal favorite has gotta be "FROM DOWNTOWN!!"

stop assuming I assumed something LOL (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 4 February 2010 00:23 (fifteen years ago)

I was always Charlotte (Larry Johnson + Alonzo Mourning)

^^potentially not true at all, sry^^ (Z S), Thursday, 4 February 2010 00:44 (fifteen years ago)

Or Phoenix (Barkley + K Johnson)

^^potentially not true at all, sry^^ (Z S), Thursday, 4 February 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

Malone and Stockton was essentially unbeatable if Stockton got the rebound.

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 4 February 2010 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

it was always great watching someone blindly pick the Bulls and then realize that MJ wasn't available.

seven months pass...

can we talk about how its some bullshit that this game was supposed to be like $15 dlc but once nba elite got flushed down the shitter it turned into a $50 release?

mayor jingleberries, Thursday, 21 October 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

five months pass...

I paid $30 for it. Well worth it. Basically it is a lot like the new Mario/DKC games in that it's very mindful of what made the originals so great. Very addictive and super fun. Right now I play as Brandon Jennings (because I'm a homer) and do alright. The Heat are absolutely ridiculous. They are like the modern version of the Madden 04 Eagles.

this oral history is killing me. I knew it was insanely popular, but this was crazy

mh, Saturday, 8 July 2017 16:46 (eight years ago)

Fun read. I was kinda irrationally angry at the NBA licensing person initially refusing to give it a thumbs up because arcade machines were only in disreputable locations. Pretty wtf/clueless opinion to have in the early 90s.

circa1916, Sunday, 9 July 2017 00:31 (eight years ago)

he's heating up!

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Monday, 10 July 2017 04:28 (eight years ago)
