worst on some of the old driving games, turbo outrun, lotus challenge, drivin force, and colin mcrae 1 - even though looked great was a bitch to drive in.

Classic in some FPS games like Goldeneye, NOLF, and NOLF2.
I enjoyed the snow/ice levels on NFS4, but generally dud in driving games.

They're pretty great in PGR4. Esp. Quebec. And I'm not just saying that.

I can't speak for the full game, but the demo for "Lost Planet" was awesome.

the ice tracks in excite truck are pretty awesome, especially the one with the oil tanker you have to jump

El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 October 2007 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

Yellow Kid more or less on the money. I hate Ice Levels in platforms "OH HAHA I SKIDDED OFF THE END AND DIED AGAIN WELL PLAYED YOU FUCKERS"

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 18 October 2007 07:06 (eighteen years ago)

Cannon Fodder = Classic. The Skiddoo, man! Awesome. Mostly dud though, except where, like in Mario 64, it lets you slide in a controlled manner to race someone down to the bottom of a hill, or whatever.

Many 'Ice' levels throw in plenty of snow, which is grippier and does make them a bit more tollerable though.

It's a gaming staple though, like water levels, fire/volcano levels, underground levels, etc.

CraigG, Thursday, 18 October 2007 08:21 (eighteen years ago)

sometimes it just reeks of "oh crumbs, we've run out of level ideas"

Ste, Thursday, 18 October 2007 08:31 (eighteen years ago)

koogs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! Nooooooooooooooooo! Noooooooooooooooooooooo! I hate ice in games almost as much as I hate it IRL. Fuck, fuck, fuck you ice.

Abbott, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:36 (eighteen years ago)

Love the ice island in Wind Waker, wish it had been a full-fledged dungeon.
