Anyone played this yet? Its getting some good reviews but I wonder: Skate or THPG?

I played it. It's just like all the others-- fun, lots of obnoxious cutscenes. It's such a different game than skate it's amazing.

The differences just really stand out now that I've returned to it. That crazy neural buzz you get when going through combos is so different than the pleasure that's in skate. And the fact that exploration in skate is actually fun, whereas in Tony Hawk it's this obsessive looking-out for rails and ramps, and the environments always feel too big and feel like need to be chopped-up into play areas. In skate you actually get a sense of the freedom and sense of fun that's probably close to what the appeal of being a skater is. Also TH is SO much more aggro and obnoxious than skate, obviously.

It just feels like you're actually DOING the stuff in Skate, whereas Tony Hawk doesn't.
The main flaw with Skate (and it's a big one) is that you can't get off your board and walk. Trying to just get from the street to the sidewalk can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.
