Noby Noby Boy looks to have an "early" 2009 release. Lots of details coming out this week (hands on preview up now). Lots of confusion?http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3171810

A couple "gameplay" videos are up...
http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/23025http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/23023
It seems a little hard to believe this is getting released by a (somewhat) major company... looks more like an experimental web game or something. I wonder if Takahashi will ever be allowed to make another game? Still, I'm look forward to it (though I don't know why).

1UP: The stage we saw was a city that the player moves around in and interacts with. Will any of the later stages feature specific objectives, activities, or minigames for players to participate in?
KT: I suspect the sort of things like that that everyone's expecting aren't going to be in this game. I'm sorry.
-----------------
1UP: We heard that Namco expects players to take roughly 1-2 weeks before GIRL reaches the moon. How long do you estimate it will take players to unlock everything there is to see?
KT: It depends on the number of players and how determined they are, but...I hope I get to see the ending before I die.

that first gameplay video makes literally no sense to me at all.
― what U cry 4 (jim), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)

looks exactly like an old cellphone snake game to me
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)
I find the whole thing somewhat disturbing, actually.

was fooling around with the video capture, which lets you upload videos directly to youtube (see above). There's a few more on the channel I created, but it's just random stuff http://www.youtube.com/user/thebottomlands
Once I get more used to the controls I'll try to do some more interesting ones.
Game also lets you use custom soundtracks (but not for videos).
― Jeff LeVine, Friday, 20 February 2009 05:53 (seventeen years ago)
My friend and I got high before we played this, and then neither of us could figure out how to play the game.

will be buying this in about two hours. yet another PSN title to distract me away from Halo Wars and Lost and Damned.
― GM, Friday, 20 February 2009 15:55 (seventeen years ago)
bought this yday but haven't had a chance to play yet. trying to power through bioshock before my rental is up!
― s1ocki, Friday, 20 February 2009 16:43 (seventeen years ago)
Game could really use a multiplayer mode! As it is, there's just not quite enough there to make frequent visits something I see myself doing. Maybe once Girl gets to the moon things will change up a bit? Still - for five dollars, it's an interesting enough world to fart around in for a few hours. Definitely more an experimental interactive work of art than a game though.

Using the Sun as an intermediary, you can report the total number of metres you've stretched BOY to GIRL, who will grow by the same amount. It won't get her far - but everyone else playing the game is doing so too, and it's the cumulative amount of stretching done in Noby Noby Boy by PS3 users across the world that drives GIRL's voyage into the stars.
Eventually - Takahashi reckons it will take players a couple of weeks - she'll link Earth to the Moon, and then Mars. (Who knows if more planets in the solar system could be added at a later date?)
this sounds AMAZING
― webber, Monday, 23 February 2009 04:46 (seventeen years ago)
except in practice it's fun for about 3 seconds
― s1ocki, Monday, 23 February 2009 05:36 (seventeen years ago)
this is some sorta practical joke right?
it's like an interactive screen saver from 1995!
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:00 (seventeen years ago)
that eurogamer review is... ugh. game reviews. make me. so. mad.
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:01 (seventeen years ago)
are you telling me my trying to convince my ps3 owning friend to get this is all in vain?Even if i love Katamari more than family?is it that worthless???? :'(
― turtles all the way down (Face of Wolf), Friday, 6 March 2009 11:33 (seventeen years ago)
it depends if he wants a kooky, well-made interactive screensaver or not.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 6 March 2009 18:26 (seventeen years ago)
I can kinda understand the frustrations above but I do think this is a really neat toy
it's fun to stick it on in the background as a screensaver w/custom soundtracks and to tool around in it here and there
I'd be interested in reading a gamasutra-style development breakdown w/takahashi, from what I understand there were a lot of ideas that they never got round to implementing which is a shame
