Snagged a beta key for the new racer, Blur, which is like a burnout-style racer with mario kart-esque power-ups.
I have to say... It's a tonne of fun. Very much looking forward to the proper release. Anyone else get a beta key?

That sounds fucking great! Tell us more

Are they Mario Kart-type powerups or more Wipeout type powerups? i.e. the offensive ones are useless

this is the new bizarre creations project, for anyone who hasn't been keeping tabs. saw it in edge a few months back, looks excellent.

every time I see the title design for this game I think blur the band rather than blur the racecars game

you're thinking of Blur v. Oasis Football Manager, #1 on Cozen's 1995 Coint and Plick ballot

modern games are rubbish

I'm also in the beta and have played a fair bit, to the level cap (rank 10), and have tried all the included modes (4) and tracks (6). At first I was really loving it, but I've already grown a little bored. What's there is basically fun and obviously the final game will have a lot more, but I already feel like I've pretty much played enough? It's not super deep and I already have other games that are similar (Mario Kart), or similar but better (WipeOut HD), that I could see myself playing more instead of spending another $60.00. I feel like it's a good, solid game (it's especially fun in the crazy 20 person races, but often I've been getting matched up with just 1-5 people), just not a GREAT game - maybe reviews of the final content and single player stuff if there is enough variety could change my mind and get me excited for this game again. It's a bad sign though, if after just a few hours I already feel satiated.

I have three tokens to get into the blur beta on 360 if anybody here wants to try it out. Just click on my name below and send me an email with your email address and I'll send it off to you. Will post here when / if all three are gone.

judging from the beta, oh this is going to be terribly addictive for me

all right, all the codes I had are gone - hope you all enjoy the beta (just remember it's a beta not a demo, so there may be some glitches / problems)

i think i did like 25 races last night with the intention of doing maybe 3. almost a sure thing buy for me when it comes out.

just played the demo for split/second, do we have a thread for it yet? will be picking up the minute i see it cheap and actually have any money... has anyone played the full game? are there plenty of tracks? because the one in the demo seems to have a lot of replay potential...

yeah for whatever reason split/second didn't really do it for me (only played the demo tho). i get the feeling that both of these games are kinda performing poorly tbh - i think they might have benefitted from not releasing so closely to each other
― Cat Bin Ladyn (jjjusten), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 18:49 (fourteen years ago)
Agreed.
HMV has split second for £10 in its sale when it was still pretty new.
IMHO split second is the better game. Blur was just mario kart in Hackney,
which wasn't as good as it sounds

racing games never hold their value at the marketplace (except for Mario Kart games, which will be full price forever)
― GO YOU RAYS (jamescobo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
yeah im not even talking so much about price as much as losing the attention of gamers in general - when the blur beta demo first launched i was pretty into it, but by release time i had played the split/second demo and kinda lost steam w/both of them
― gg eileen (jjjusten), Thursday, 2 September 2010 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
they both feel very clearly like Burnout + nu gimmicky spin on Mario Kart... i liked the blur demo too though.
