rof gets really grindy @ the end with arena battling - its not "hard" so much as "soul-killing and deeply uninteresting" - theres really no narrative pull to the game and unlike demons souls the combat is boring imo. i know some ppl liked fucking around w/various equip/ha/dmg effects combos but the game doesnt really reward tactical experimentation or require all that much thought.

u can probably cop a cheap-ish used copy if u still want 2 play it but fwiw i really didnt like it

every time i think i abt ordering this im like "there is no possible way this wont be disappointing" & i lose all interest & feel joyless and distraught

While we're on this general area, a month or two ago I finally went back and played up to disc 3 of Lost Odyssey and man that game is some drab, charmless shit.

playing this. 2 hours in and its a mess, but possibly a glorious and rewarding mess. camera is kinda awful, but i guess i never realized that i wanted a rpg with crazy strafing fireball attacks before. gonna be pissed if i get stuck playing lots of farming sim bullshit tho.

graphics are sorta lolful much of the time, but then there will be moments where they are totally stunning, which is confusing to me.

just ignore the sidequests unless someone says "there's a big monster over there". ignore the farming & fishing ones for sure!

i am officially loving this, warts and all

shocked to say this, but i am really liking the boss battles most of the time! and yeah its def got a sort of kitchen sink approach, but its keeping me going (fuckin fetch quests tho jesus), some really interesting environments and clever little moments. i figure im at the halfway point w/about 14 hours in so far. not bad for $20.

shame that the second half of the game is so easy. the spear thrust is brokenly powerful.

yeah when they rolled out the oh now u have 2 handed weapons and spears and all of the magic i was kinda thinking the diff curve was going to go way way down.

i hear the fishing minigame is great
