I keep meaning to start a thread for (proper JRPG by Square Enix) Chaos Rings, it's fantastic.

does a game with this kind of detail run on the plain ol 3g iphone?
― sleepingbag, Friday, 9 July 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I played the first half on a 3G and then finished it on a 4. Obviously there's a huge frame rate difference but apart from that everything was fine on the 3G.

how long does the game last?
― Don Homer (kingfish), Monday, 12 July 2010 18:12 (fifteen years ago)
Probably 8-9 hours on my first run through. But there are 4 different character pairs, each with their own story, so the theory is you'll play through it four times (halfway through my second run, it does seem like the character attributes are also different enough to make this worthwhile). And then it looks like there's some secret final mission thing once you've completed all four runs.

does it have random encounters or are the enemies visible?
― TOM SHITTYBISSELL (jamescobo), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
Randoms, except for mid and end level bosses.

PASS
seriously, random encounters need to go the way of the dodo already

Sure, in a plot driven game. But this is basically a dungeon crawler, combat and levelling are where you're going to spend 80% of your gametime. So that makes the randoms a lot less of an issue.
Plus it's pretty easy to find magics which let you switch off encounters anyway.
