Pre-Owned Bargains/Disasters

I can't be the only one who shops in the "this might have been quite good two years ago and the disk hardly has a scratch on it" section at Gamestation, can I?

Anyway, instead of buying a shiny new game with my shiny new pay cheque today I bought:

Assassin's Creed II (360) - £14.99 --- thought twice about this one as it would probably have been better to get the newer complete edition with the extra bits, etc. but this was £12 cheaper so...

Bayonetta (360) - £7.98 --- no-brainer imo, I was thinking of buying this at full price

Blue Dragon (360) - £4.98 --- this is supposed to get really good once you slog through the first 20 hours or so :) - 3 disk RPG with dragons for under a fiver can't ever be a bad buy, can it?

Motorstorm (PS3) - £4.98 --- I've been looking for an off-road racer since completing Pure and I thought I'd take a punt on this s it was cheap. Not sure about the "Mosh at the Motorstorm Festival featuring Kings of Leon" thing though...

So, four games for cheaper than a new release. Bargain or disaster?

i'd say virtually any game is good for a fiver because even if you didn't liek it at least you tried it.

my msot recent bargain buy in that sense (not counting steam sales of course) was an insane little title called DAI SENRYAKU VII: MODERN MILITARY TACTICS. foudn at a pawn shop sidewalk sale last summer, i think. it's a bizarre japanese hex-based war game for consoles. is it good? i don't know. i haven't touched it much. will eventually. but the fact that it is this random-ass game that i have never heard of, and is strategy (my <3), and cost about $5 CAD (which at the time was about $5.05 USD)... magical.

Motorstorm (PS3) - £4.98

This is fun for a bit then gets really samey really fast - it's like they were making a bigger better game then decided not to bother.

Assassin's Creed II (360) - £14.99

Not far into this yet but the freerunning bits feel nice and smooth and Florence looks lovely.

I bought Kane & lynch for £5 played it for a few days, got to the jungle level.... realised all the cool Heat bits were over and traded it for £3.

I had £2 of fun from it....

moral of the story, £5 games can never be a bad idea, especially if you can trade them afterwards.

Just got Midnight Club: Los Angeles, pre-owned.

Am returning it this evening. SUCKS.

Blue Dragon's great fun so far and well worth £5. I'm almost liking RPGs again despite my brain railing against turn based combat. Only complaints so far

- they've thrown swearing in, seemingly just for the sake of doing it, and made what should have been a cute friendly 7+ game into a 12+ (meaning I'm not so sure I should be letting my 8-year-old son play it)
- same music plays at *every* battle
- "search poo" - I mean really :(
