DQ8 and a four day weekend, here I come!

I just wish i could afford that used ATI card I saw on CL, then I could play the Witcher all weekend, too.

For the rest of this year, this is the thread for general celebrating and/or commentary on game- and drinking-related matters. Screw doing something productive with your life on your day(s) off, time to fire up the system and start imbibing.

I haven't smoked green in a year or two and had no intention to until I started playing Mass Effect-- for some reason the two seem like they'd go together well.

Also planning to have a mate over for beers and Bioshock at some point.

Will M., Thursday, 22 November 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

I've had DQ8 since friday night, already 40 hours in. Jesus.

kingfish, Thursday, 22 November 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

And it should be noted that this is the first game i've ever played that made significant use of cockney rhyming slang.

kingfish, Thursday, 22 November 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, saw a copy of Shadow Hearts: Covenant for $15 at a Gamecrazy, so I picked that up. How many other rpgs are set during WWI?

kingfish, Saturday, 24 November 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

The first shadow hearts? I don't know that there are any others...

Will M., Sunday, 25 November 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

shin megami tensei devil summoner raidou haogkgkhrgnrlwdig lg d kldfggvd is set in japan in the 1920s. I think that's the closest anything else gets?

El Tomboto, Sunday, 25 November 2007 02:44 (eighteen years ago)

Crashed at a friend's house after thxgiving, woke up the next morning and played Punch Out on Wii, watched Half Life for awhile and then played Portals (which is great!).

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is set during World War II although I'll be damned if there's anything in the actual game about it.

I started Valkyrie Profile 2 yesterday. It is very confusing. Many parts of the game would be easier to understand if it used 2D graphics.

Operation Darkness set in World War II, apparently you fight demon Hitler or something...

Will M., Monday, 26 November 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

There's like 4 Shadow Hearts games:

# 2 List of the games in the series

* 2.1 Koudelka
* 2.2 Shadow Hearts
* 2.3 Shadow Hearts: Covenant
* 2.4 Shadow Hearts: From The New World

kingfish, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

hmm:

http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/760/760916.html

Operation Darkness puts you in command of a British Special Forces squad during World War II that has been tasked with taking out the Nazis and Hitler while fighting a host of supernatural characters like zombies, skeletons, vampires, werewolves, and even dragons. Characters can use magic, change into supernatural beings, improve their weapons skills by becoming familiar with different artillery, and much more.

Apparently, it's been out in japan since last month, won't hit here until next year. Looks more like a Fire Emblem-type strategy game than your standard JRPG.

kingfish, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Brother will be bringing his PS2 and "the Warriors" for the holidays. I'm dragging all my rpgs along. Such fun to be had.

kingfish, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Also, i brought my boardgames with me this time. Ticket to Ride: Marklin, Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, etc. Whee!

kingfish, Thursday, 20 December 2007 06:01 (eighteen years ago)

I'll be getting as many stars on mario as i feel comfy, finally beating god of war 2, probably up for a new rpg too. Might pick up fire emblem for the wii as a "out of work" present to myself... good choice?

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 20 December 2007 07:01 (eighteen years ago)

if youl iked previous fire emblems, you can't go wrong with the newest, i've heard. there's not much of anything new to it.

my ds is fixed, so i am going to spend a bunch of time playing DS this holiday season. I HAD NOT REALIZED THAT FRONT MISSION ALTERNATIVE WAS INCLUDED IN FRONT MISSION SO I WILL PROBABLY PLAY THAT. SORRY AOBUT THE CAPS, I JUST EXPECTED TO REPLAY FRONT MISSION, AND INSTEAD I GOT SOMETHING NEW! MERRY XMAS, ME!

Will M., Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

my bad-- not FM alternative, but just... a new scenario. either way, i am psyched, it's like a new front mission game!

Will M., Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

I kinda enjoyed the original Front Mission (on emulator), but did they tone down the weapons/outfitting? I remember that taking up more time than the missions themselves!

Nhex, Thursday, 20 December 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

That was the fun of it, in my opinion! Maybe I'm just a big nerd. I'm not far into the DS one but I reckon it'll be more of the same.

Will M., Thursday, 20 December 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

I've never played a Fire Emblem game before... but I love Ogre Battle/FFTactics/Zelda/FF in general... i'm in good hands?

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 20 December 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

yes.
harder, less forgiving hands, but good ones, it's true.

El Tomboto, Friday, 21 December 2007 03:30 (eighteen years ago)

didn't you really like advance wars?

El Tomboto, Friday, 21 December 2007 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

Never played Advance Wars either! I ended up buying this and I'm off to play now.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 21 December 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

bastard

El Tomboto, Friday, 21 December 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

for not playing advance wars or for getting Fire Emblem.
Damn, this game IS hard!

forksclovetofu, Friday, 21 December 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

for getting fire emblem and for being home playing it

El Tomboto, Saturday, 22 December 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

My brother bough GH3 and an extra wireless guitar tonight. Unfortunately, the rattliing is too much for the infink nephew, who won't sleep.

So no more GH3 tonight, i guess

kingfish, Saturday, 22 December 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

Christ, the batteries on these wireless controllers don't last long, do they?

kingfish, Saturday, 22 December 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

why you think I got a clip of 36 in my desk

El Tomboto, Saturday, 22 December 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

I upgraded to rechargeables a few days ago. It's a good move.

Z S, Saturday, 22 December 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, spent the rest of the time until Christmas playing that.

Am messing about with Worlds of Ultima: Martian Dreams lately. I love ultimas, and i forgot how much i dig victorian/steampunk games. Anybody know of any other worthwhile Victorian stuff, aside from Arcanum?

kingfish, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

I've been trying to beat Ninja Gaiden all weekend. I got farther than I ever did as a kid, to Jaqio (second to last boss), but I just can't crack it.
