Geometry Wars Galaxies

Game is crazy fun. They changed up and expanded the gameplay from retro-evolved just enough so it still feels like that almost perfect game, while offering a lot more content - sixty different boards (but it's really more like ten new gametypes, with variations of each to make it up to sixty). Lots of new enemies, but the change is that you collect geoms from destroyed enemies to build up your multiplier (up to x150!). The game feels more challenging - most levels start a lot faster, but don't get totally insane with enemies until perhaps a little longer. My favorite levels so far are the hardcore ones that start you with just one life and no bombs.

My biggest disappointment - online leader boards are extremely limited, in the sense that there is no way to check your friends scores - a very missed feature.

And one warning - it's a twin stick shooter - so you're going to need the classic controller to play this one - I don't see how you could do much good with the wii remote & for some reason - the game doesn't include support for the gamecube controller. But damn - it feels and plays really nice with the classic.

I'd say it's the second best new game I've played on the wii! Very addictive, fast and fun & it does actually improve on retro-evolved - which I wasn't sure was possible.

i wonder how the ds version is?

Well, the wii version lets you download the ds version of retro-evolved to your ds, which i tried (took like thirty seconds) and it was HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE!!!!

Right handed people get to use the d-pad to move their ship, but if you're left handed like me, you have to use the buttons - neither option is particlary good, I'd guess. You shoot by moving the stylus around a central point on the touch screen - and all the action takes place on the top screen. Awkward! This is a game about precision and I found it impossible to do anything precise working with this control scheme. Also this game is about a busy screen with lots of things flying around - the ds screen is just too tiny for a game like this.

I'm left-handed too. :( Except I would probably just use the stylus in my right hand (because using the d-pad with my left is so ingrained) and suck a lot.

I'm left-handed too! We should have our own board called "I Love Being A Southpaw" or something.

I am going to skip this on the DS, I have it for the 360 so why bother?

The wii version adds a lot - it's super fun. I mean, I'm really surprised how much newness they were able to bring to the project while still having it feel like geometry wars. There are one kind of levels though with a gravity well type thing in the middle that really doesn't work. The rest are great though - I've unlocked 'em all but still haven't tried out all the different drones. Anyhow, I was playing this some more this morning (it's addictive as hell - and hard to put down) and my overall high score is now 49th on the leaderboards!

I'm left-handed but I don't have a DS so it's never mattered much.
