After the battle Alan approaches the main television with him agonizing over "Why...why..why couldn't I make him stop". A powerful scream comes from the television
obviously it is awesome

i still kinda want to play this if i ever finish RDR. at least by then it will be like $10 (if it's not already).

waiting, like I always do these days, for it to hit £10
― hopa dreams (cozen), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
Played a little of it, it was all right. Felt like those nightmare sequences in Max Payne, but done much better and without the crappy platforming.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 17 August 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)
what kind of game is this? it sounds like a max payne style thing, is that right?
― NI, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 10:59 (fifteen years ago)
this looks like it was designed by robots in order for me to like it - action/adventure without (much) gunplay and a ton of atmosphere
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 11:16 (fifteen years ago)
plus: it's finnish!
oh - xbox :(
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 12:33 (fifteen years ago)
a lot like silent hill but with a game mechanic that's really samey - pointing your flashlight at an enemy slows/stops them and stops them being invulnerable, so you do that then shoot at them. fairly good atmosphere, lighting, water etc.. didn't play enough of it to comment on the story because i didn't really dig it that much.
― Efraqueen Juárez (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)
I bought it, as I saw it for £15. The first two episodes I was pretty engrossed. It's pretty trippy; very much (narratively) like Max Payne, but avoiding the crappy platformers for lots of running through woods which probably isn't much better (so far, I've only done 2 1/2 episodes). Also, when I was playing it, other people in the room sat and patiently watched the whole 'episode', and were quite taken in, which is pretty unique.
I'm not sure if I would recommend it though, that said. I'm on the third episode , and I'd like to know how it ends, but I'm not enjoying the actual gameplay all that much. It's fun, but very repetitive and only really stands up to playing for an hour or so - with each episode it seems like more of a chore to sit down and play the whole episode in one sitting.
― CraigG, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)
hmm interesting answers.
it's always kind of a mystery which gameplay elements turn out really "strong" and worthy of repetition, and which quickly look weak. L4D: shoot zombies, strong! could do it all day. alan wake: shine your light, not strong? is that the consensus?
― goole, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 16:07 (fifteen years ago)
my only real complaint is the samey-ness of the enemies. the story really starts getting more absorbing around episode 3 or 4.
― lord goo goo (latebloomer), Thursday, 19 August 2010 04:52 (fifteen years ago)
this game is pretty solid if you like silent hill types.
I think its biggest issue is that its just not freaky/weird enough especially in comparison to SH. it tries for this psychological thriller level but isn't smart enough to move it past cliches.
the gameplay has a lot of underdeveloped good ideas that it feels like they gave up on. overall though, definitely worth getting used.

note: from the studio that brought you those endless blood trail levels in max payne, so obv fun having is not priority number one for these dudes

If someone can figure out a way to give players whatever they need from a shitty video game that will allow them to stop playing it without beating it that person will make a million dollars
― antexit, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 03:05 (fifteen years ago)
finished this last night and it was 100% no fun at all. just pretty much a terrible game in every way.
so uh antexit otm i guess.
― O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 11 November 2010 20:50 (fifteen years ago)
no joke here, not one scare in the whole thing, ultra repetetive gameplay to the point of huge frustration, garbage script, super boring visually, makes the color palatte in FO3 look like a rainbow brite episode, pointless driving sections, terrible characters, and for bonus points direct ripoffs of other games and the most noxious product placement ive ever seen (not in quantity, but in the way its done). god i hated this game.
― O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 11 November 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

― Z S, Thursday, 11 November 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)
in all seriousness, even without the camp factor Deadly Premonition is a better game than this, esp since they're kinda walking the same ground - just way more legitimately involving and scarier and smarter while at the same time being hilariously and enjoyably inept in so many ways. which has got to be a pretty huge embarrassment for remedy tbh.
