Over the last couple years it feels like there are less and less games coming out over the holidays that I'm interested in. I'm not sure if that's mostly a product of my changing tastes, publishers spreading out their big releases over the course of the year a little better, or the feeling as this generation of console technology gets a bit long in the tooth, that new games just aren't as exciting as they were a few years ago, as it feels a bit more like everything is a sequel & that everything has been done already.
In a way it feels good to not have a huge, overwhelming list of games I'm looking forward to over the next four months. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of games, the list just feels much more reasonable now. Here's mine, in order of anticipation...
1. F1 2010 (PC/PS3/360)2. DoDonPachi Resurrection (j360)3. FIFA 2010 (PS3/PC/360)4. Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)5. Guwange (XBLA)6. Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)7. Donkey King Country Returns (Wii)

maybe skate3?
maybe... snoopy flying ace?
― goole, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 16:16 (fifteen years ago)
The thing about Call of Duty, I still have the last 3, so another one feels kinda pointless - they're so similar. Plus I'm a little bored of multiplayer shooters (not one on my list), and would prefer to play a Battlefield or Team Fortress 2 if I felt like shooting fools.
Also #3 on my list should read FIFA 11. I had 10 for 360, but my US 360 died (out of warranty) and since it was a region coded game and I only have a j360 now, no way to play it. If I still had a playable copy of 10 I don't know that I'd be buying FIFA 11.

I never played Dead Rising 1 but the idea of survival zombie horror has always seemed fun since the movies and boxhead flash games. Initially what attracted me to Dead Rising 2 was the amount of zombies that the developers said could be on screen at on time. I liked thinking that the game would perfect all the mishaps of the first one and provide more weapons and everything else. When I watched the E3 video montage of this game yesterday I wasn't as excited because the zombies appeared lifeless. They looked slower and clumsier than boxhead zombies and maybe that's okay because weapon supply must be limited and ever changing in DR2 but I hope that some zombies will run at you. Did they ever do that in Dead Rising 1?
― you doesn't hasta call me johnson (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)
Dead State sounds like it could be interesting. I like that Brian Mitsoda is working on it, the RPS interview was pretty good, and I liked his work on Bloodlines. Also a good sign that they want to evoke the horror of X-Com.
I might give Dead Rising 2 a try just because it's getting a PC port, but probably not until next year. But yeah, this surprisingly little I'm looking forward to this holiday season, unless I know someone who picks up Rock Band 3 and the keytar.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 19:35 (fifteen years ago)
woah that's weird, and Dead State does sound exactly what i had in mind.
Dead Rising 1 was good for goofing around with lots of zombies on screen (personally enjoyed hitting golf balls at them), but there were some annoyances with the mission structure, and the save system was mind bogglingly bad.
― F-Unit (Ste), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

― this isn't STRAWBERRY 0_o it's RAWBERRY (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)
the biggest problem i had wrt dead rising is that theres this really aimless (not in a sandbox fun way) feel to it where nothing yer supposed to be doing is all that clear BUT it is all super time constrained. also NPC AI was often well below the level of the fucking zombies which started to really bug me after a while.

― Euler, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 23:00 (fifteen years ago)
i. it looks ace. ii. the rest of us bought that Civ IV shit 5 years ago now and it is just time goddammit.
the new stuff that has caught my eye is the new way of doing culture victories, which sounds neat, and the big change of hexes + non-stacking units + city hit points, which will completely change how the combat works. diplomacy sounds like it might have some cool tweaks and it is always cool to see what new wrinkles they bring to govt, city management, etc.

God help me, I just paid real money for Poker Night at the Inventory. I figure $4.50 is a fair trade for a few hours of potentially amusing one-liners I'll (hopefully) laugh at once and never play again plus some stupid crap to wear in TF2. Other than that, Super Meat Boy, Mass Effect 2 (pending completion of Mass Effect the first and maybe waiting for a GOTY with all the downloadables bundled in), and God of War 3 and Just Cause 2 if either are discounted heavily enough over the holiday weekend. Really looking forward to AC: Brotherhood, but I've got to get through the first two games first and I've only done two of nine assassinations in #1, so that'll be a 2011 purchase for sure...
