What is the bad sinking feeling?

Which version of 3 are you playing? I understand that people complained quite a bit that the difficulty went too far on the original release, but that it was re-tuned (i.e. a playable challenge) on the greatest hits version...

I ask because this game is also in my pile of games I'm hoping to find the time to play soon...

it's ugly! and i've always hated the manga-style 'androgynous dark anti-hero' thing. the motion doesn't look as good as God of War.

i should really give this more than just the first few scenes but ouch.

the camera in this game is TERRIBLE

I quit after the first few scenes as well.

Me too. Can someone explain why I should give this game a shot when the new one comes out? Every experience I've had with it has been long gay cutscenes interspersed with buttonmashing brawling which would be fun if it was in a game with other stuff to do but it seems that there is NO OTHER STUFF TO DO.

i played this for a bit. the main problem for me was having to redo sections over and over and over again; each section became numbingly familiar, you knew exactly when the baddies were going to appear, and from where, exactly how to defeat them, and you'd do it over and over and over and over until you finally stayed alive long enough to get to another checkpoint.

The first game was pretty fun for its time, but it doesn't hold up very well. The other two are steps down in most respects. The story is terrible, but the first game is pretty fun as far as button mashers go.

one month passes...

Tried out the demo on the 360 over the weekend for the new one and was fairly impressed - especially by the graphics, which are really really sharp and detailed, probably as good looking as Gears.

I was a little annoyed by the camera (sometimes you control it and sometimes you don't). The combat felt good, if a little too easy. I will probably be picking up the game at some point

Cavaet - the game is very Capcom. Which means that the level design is nonsensical, you will be backtracking a fair bit and you'll be solving lots of puzzles involving Griffon Crests and Gyro Blades. That being said, the combat is very well-tuned, challenging, and basically the point of the whole game; the demo is on the game's lowest difficulty setting, so if you find that too easy you can easily ramp it up a few notches. I think it took me about.....16 hours or so to plow through the game on Devil Hunter (effectively "medium" difficulty), and replayability comes from higher difficulty levels, unlocking more abilities / characters, and the "Bloody Palace", which is a 100-level arena mode.

The story is terrible and over-the-top cheese, though I actually enjoy the ridiculous cut-scenes as they appeal greatly to my inner teenager and the game doesn't appear to be taking itself remotely seriously. It really is gorgeous, too, it runs at 60fps constantly and I never saw it flicker or stutter.

DMC3 is probably the most pointlessly difficult game I've ever played, and the emo-goth-metal-whatever design scheme is completely embarrassing. Still, I enjoyed the basic hack-n-slash gameplay mechanics, and mostly had fun up until the twentieth or so replay of the same damn level. Maybe those awful 3D Castlevanias should've ripped off the gameplay, but made it a little bit easier?

One thing everyone's saying about this new one is that the difficulty curve is much improved. The horrible aesthetic and music remains, though.

antexit, Monday, 11 February 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

the music in the demo was pretty cheesy faux metal, japanese style over the top and yeah, kind of annoying - I forgot about that. But I do like the art & just the way the characters moved - it looked really good, honest (I still haven't played the earlier games though)

Played through the first two missions last night and so far I'm liking it a lot. The first real boss you fight is amazing looking
