It is the perfect Pac Man game, basically. If that doesn't appeal to you then don't get it. But it roolz hard.

it's just so nice being able to play this with a reasonable controller; up until now I'd only ever played it on 360 and iPhone.

Do people play with the d-pad or the analog stick? D-pad is my intuitive choice but I'm missing the really really fast direction changes every now and then. Seems like the stick would be worse though

I'm playing with the stick and it sucks. but the d-pad isn't as responsive as I want it to be, either. I feel like I'm passing the threshold into whiny adulthood because I'm mumbling "stupid stick! turn pac-man! dammit, c'mon!" to myself as the speed intensifies.

and I'm sure some 7-year-old would use the same controller and have no problem whatsoever.

d/led this last night. Every bit as good as everyone says, but I fear I may have a fit during a session on it on account of it being that frantic.

i'm a little uncomfortable with how much the giant five-second serotonin burst that comes with nailing a line of 100 ghosts feels like an orgasm tbh. it makes me not want to play too much

The reviews make it look like it's much harder to die than in previous games as you've got the slow-down thing and bombs and is all about racking up big ghost eating runs for high scores. This makes me think I'd end up in Trials/Wipeout HD mode where I beat my high scores with a stunning feat of hand eye coordination to find that I've risen to the lofty heights of 6712nd in the world.

This game is basically Pac-Man: The Benny Hill Years. I love it.

jesus christ this game is fun.

i love how little details of the original game have been amplified, stretched and extended.

- speed-up on turning corners
- that split-second of decision-making when faced with ghosts on both sides
- leading all the ghosts on a merry chase while pushing your luck

these things existed in the original game but in rudimentary form. they've elaborated and sophisticated these moments and it's freaking hilariously fun

another aspect of the original that's been magnified:

- the comforting feeling of following a set pattern, the panic that sets in when the pattern goes wrong, and the satisfaction of using your wits to succeed anyway

and of course, turning the tables on the ghosts, which has become this supernova of craziness

You know, as a kid, this is pretty much what I figured Pac-Man would look like in the year 2011.

A hori arcade stick is as good as a fightstick and much cheaper, good enough for pacman and ikaruga and such anyway

So these leaderboards got fucked up somehow, huh? I didn't play it for a week or so, suddenly I'm number 71 in the world at time trial (short) overall, with a total time of 33 seconds. Despite the fact I've not even attempted most of them. It's about 10% lol, but given that the game's all about the leaderboards it's also 90% ruined.

I'm enjoying taking the lead back on my leaderboard every time I play this.

n00b request for assistance on this: I first bought and DLed Pac-Man CE DX but didn't see anything in my downloaded games folder - so I then bought and installed Pac-Man CE, which I'm now playing. Where is the DX game? Is it an add-on I need to somehow install?

It isn't an add-on. It's a new game.

Holy hell this game is great. Started playing it yesterday when the sun was out and then I checked the time and it was 1AM.

yeah i got the ps3 one but have been wishing it was brought to ps4. i guess 256 is out now for consoles but i'm not too interested cuz it pales in comparison to ce dx

Championship DX was so amazing

unfortunately it appears that the PC version's support for the Elite Bone controller is wonky as fuck right now, so I caved and got it for PS4 instead; hopefully it's fixed by the time the next Steam sale rolls around.
