IT IS SO GOOD

"Anus Landlord": A little rough, but good. (jamescobo), Sunday, 28 November 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

But is it as good as Anus Landlord?

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 28 November 2010 22:34 (fifteen years ago)

I hadn't really heard about this game outside of this board. What's new with this one?

Nhex, Sunday, 28 November 2010 22:37 (fifteen years ago)

if you're wanting to be convinced,

glowing review

need to impressive a girl? (Z S), Sunday, 28 November 2010 22:41 (fifteen years ago)

It is the perfect Pac Man game, basically. If that doesn't appeal to you then don't get it. But it roolz hard.

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Sunday, 28 November 2010 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

it's just so nice being able to play this with a reasonable controller; up until now I'd only ever played it on 360 and iPhone.

"Anus Landlord": A little rough, but good. (jamescobo), Sunday, 28 November 2010 22:50 (fifteen years ago)

Do people play with the d-pad or the analog stick? D-pad is my intuitive choice but I'm missing the really really fast direction changes every now and then. Seems like the stick would be worse though

antexit, Sunday, 28 November 2010 23:08 (fifteen years ago)

I'm playing with the stick and it sucks. but the d-pad isn't as responsive as I want it to be, either. I feel like I'm passing the threshold into whiny adulthood because I'm mumbling "stupid stick! turn pac-man! dammit, c'mon!" to myself as the speed intensifies.

need to impressive a girl? (Z S), Sunday, 28 November 2010 23:46 (fifteen years ago)

and I'm sure some 7-year-old would use the same controller and have no problem whatsoever.

After struggling for a while I busted out the arcade stick... oh my.

Better?

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 30 November 2010 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

I need to get you all on my friend list so I can see how badly I suck at this. Am Jimdoo (on XBL) if you don't have me already.

JimD, Tuesday, 30 November 2010 10:54 (fifteen years ago)

polyphonique, but I'm not that good at it.

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 30 November 2010 17:59 (fifteen years ago)

d/led this last night. Every bit as good as everyone says, but I fear I may have a fit during a session on it on account of it being that frantic.

unpredictable johnny rodz, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 14:10 (fifteen years ago)

i'm a little uncomfortable with how much the giant five-second serotonin burst that comes with nailing a line of 100 ghosts feels like an orgasm tbh. it makes me not want to play too much

antexit, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 14:29 (fifteen years ago)

one for the box there

old LOKO heads (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

Watching this and spending half the time trying to work out where Pac-Man is = I'm too old for this shit

Dork Twisted Fantasy (onimo), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

The reviews make it look like it's much harder to die than in previous games as you've got the slow-down thing and bombs and is all about racking up big ghost eating runs for high scores. This makes me think I'd end up in Trials/Wipeout HD mode where I beat my high scores with a stunning feat of hand eye coordination to find that I've risen to the lofty heights of 6712nd in the world.

Dork Twisted Fantasy (onimo), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

This game is basically Pac-Man: The Benny Hill Years. I love it.

unpredictable johnny rodz, Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:10 (fifteen years ago)

^^^ OTM and hilarious

somebody make me a dynamic yackety sax soundtrack for this game asap

antexit, Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:12 (fifteen years ago)

jesus christ this game is fun.

i love how little details of the original game have been amplified, stretched and extended.

- speed-up on turning corners
- that split-second of decision-making when faced with ghosts on both sides
- leading all the ghosts on a merry chase while pushing your luck

these things existed in the original game but in rudimentary form. they've elaborated and sophisticated these moments and it's freaking hilariously fun

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

in-depth article about the original pacman -

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3938/the_pacman_dossier.php

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 December 2010 15:04 (fifteen years ago)

another aspect of the original that's been magnified:

- the comforting feeling of following a set pattern, the panic that sets in when the pattern goes wrong, and the satisfaction of using your wits to succeed anyway

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 December 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

and of course, turning the tables on the ghosts, which has become this supernova of craziness

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 December 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

You know, as a kid, this is pretty much what I figured Pac-Man would look like in the year 2011.

FART MAGNET STUDIOS IS SCREWING US AGAIN!!!1!1!!!1!! (jamescobo), Thursday, 2 December 2010 19:45 (fifteen years ago)

seriously. the PS3 controller is just not.. good.. enough

although i find it helps to play this game 1) when you're not drunk 2) before 1am

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Friday, 3 December 2010 12:06 (fifteen years ago)

The friend leaderboards in this game are weird and annoying, why doesn't it include my own scores in there?

JimD, Saturday, 4 December 2010 08:12 (fifteen years ago)

Argh my thumb arggggggghhhh :(

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Monday, 6 December 2010 01:31 (fifteen years ago)

did you see my "high" scores on there? I added you yesterday and it was fun to be able to see where other ilxors were on the leaderboard

need to impressive a girl? (Z S), Monday, 6 December 2010 01:41 (fifteen years ago)

this game is fun

playing it when really tired is kind of traumatizing

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Monday, 6 December 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Monday, 6 December 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

having spent the weekend playing space invaders extreme, i would love a version of this on DS. anyone know if a conversion is planned?

Frank O'Cotsoe (haitch), Monday, 6 December 2010 01:59 (fifteen years ago)

to rephrase: having spent the weekend playing space invaders extreme on the DS and enjoying the future-retro styles, i would love a version of PAC-MAN CE DX (aka 'this', the game the thread is talking about) on DS. anyone know if a conversion is planned?

Frank O'Cotsoe (haitch), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 04:19 (fifteen years ago)

ah, i get it. sorry.

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 04:57 (fifteen years ago)

don't think so, haitch. might show up on 3DS at some point

smoke on this^ one (cozen), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 07:19 (fifteen years ago)

A hori arcade stick is as good as a fightstick and much cheaper, good enough for pacman and ikaruga and such anyway

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 07:56 (fifteen years ago)

So these leaderboards got fucked up somehow, huh? I didn't play it for a week or so, suddenly I'm number 71 in the world at time trial (short) overall, with a total time of 33 seconds. Despite the fact I've not even attempted most of them. It's about 10% lol, but given that the game's all about the leaderboards it's also 90% ruined.

JimD, Monday, 13 December 2010 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

I'm enjoying taking the lead back on my leaderboard every time I play this.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Tuesday, 14 December 2010 06:40 (fifteen years ago)

n00b request for assistance on this: I first bought and DLed Pac-Man CE DX but didn't see anything in my downloaded games folder - so I then bought and installed Pac-Man CE, which I'm now playing. Where is the DX game? Is it an add-on I need to somehow install?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 16 December 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

It isn't an add-on. It's a new game.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Thursday, 16 December 2010 16:50 (fifteen years ago)

thx that's what I thought. Thing is after downloading it I can't find it anywhere on the PS3 menu (I'm pretty sure the solution is right before my eyes but...)

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 16 December 2010 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

eight months pass...

This game is basically Pac-Man: The Benny Hill Years. I love it.

yeah i got the ps3 one but have been wishing it was brought to ps4. i guess 256 is out now for consoles but i'm not too interested cuz it pales in comparison to ce dx

am0n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 20:13 (nine years ago)

Championship DX was so amazing

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:47 (nine years ago)

one month passes...

unfortunately it appears that the PC version's support for the Elite Bone controller is wonky as fuck right now, so I caved and got it for PS4 instead; hopefully it's fixed by the time the next Steam sale rolls around.
