#2 (The Dark Sword of Chaos) for sure. Challenging but not as insanely hard as the first game. Still had super slick controls, cutscenes and unforgettable music.

Another vote for 2.

i will play 2, after all these years. 1 is really pretty easy until the end. :/

Sigma is probably the hardest game I've ever beaten. Most of the game I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be able to do it. Still kind of surprised I managed it. Some of those boss fights :(

It's just an exhausting game (took like 22 hours too)

The original arcade game was the best of them all. It always had the longest line to play at the bowling alley.

never played it, but lol:

Well, at least we all agreed NG3 was terrible.

i got ninja gaiden 2 in the mail yesterday (got it for a couple bucks off of amazon), and it came with a complimentary pack of THE MASK trading cards, lol.

There was a cheat thing you could do with NG2 to access the music page - I did this, plugged it into my tapedeck, taped that shit, and rode around on my bike listening to it like I was a total fucking badass.

I used to tape game music all the time back in the day. One of the best and most unheralded game scores was for this game Solstice on the NES. I taped that through my stereo and for a few weeks made my mom listen to it whenever we were in the car.

If I had seen this thread a few weeks ago, I would have bumped the original into a tie with the others, and then I would have posted this picture:

sixteen years pass...

Pretty cool that the Blasphemous people are making a new 2-D Ninja Gaiden game, it looks very Blasphemous-y too. I just hope the music all guitar-heavy video game metal (really any retro game that's already trading on nostalgia should have a setting to switch it to chiptune).

one year passes...

Ok, I totally love Ragebound after finishing the base campaign (which was pretty short, just under 10 hours). Currently going through the bonus 'secret ops' levels and then will see if I'm up to the unlocked hard mode.

Some of the Kumori sections in the bonus levels are maybe the hardest platforming challenges I've done, they're basically speed runs. The idea is that your health is constantly ticking down, so in order to reach the next power up every little move has to be optimized, you have to save time wherever possible.
