Is it possible to run modern games on an external hard drive?

Don't want to turn this into the ILG version of playing bass through a guitar amp, but...

I have a MacBook Pro that I also use at work, necessitating running WinXP through Boot Camp anyway. My Windows partition is pretty small, especially considering games taking HD space of 2+gb. The machine has a FireWire 800 port, thinking this should be fast enough?

The point's probably moot anyway given I don't have enough time to do the things I have to do, let alone getting immersed in games.

N says it'll work fine, install the gameto the external HD (and it'll need to be formatted for windoze)
