Chrono Trigger has loads of random encounters iirc?

they're random but you can see the enemies on the overworld; that's what I meant. sb me.

I think Shining Force had only enemies you could see on the map

none of the chrono games used random encounters iirc

mystic quest was the 1st final fantasy not to use them but theyve started to fade them out in the main series

tales of symphonia uses the 'visible enemies' system w/ its rt battles i think the whole tales series does

similarly the persona games use the 'shadow' system for random encounters & random battles can be evaded (although it makes the game essentially impossible)

the shining force games actually do have 'random' encounters on the overworld map (sort of) but there are only a few of them, & you arent really supposed avoid them so much as be surprised by them...

can you see the enemies in the Ys games? never played any of those games so I know nothing about them aside from "fun gameplay, story is ass"

the ys games ive played are action rpgs, not tradtional turn based/rt rpgs so the battle system is p different

yeah I think the one Ys I had a go at was a side scrolling kinda thing

Contact stole this from Earthbound – as it did a lot of stuff from Earthbound, except for Earthbound's fun, charm, imagination, and humor.

Crusader of Centy or Soleil in Europe is an action-y Zelda-like so no random encounters. Like it better than Zelda tbh
