not excited about "pay to play"
― Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 23 February 2008 00:28 (eighteen years ago)
personally I don't give a shit about online play anyhow but since the games are $10 less and the console is $150 less that's a lot of pay-to-play to make up the difference. also, you know, they have to stay in the black, unlike xbox, which is run like a charity.
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 23 February 2008 00:30 (eighteen years ago)
what's giving me goosebumps is hearing that SqEx has done the math and is actually planning on supporting the Wii and the WiiWare concept
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 23 February 2008 00:32 (eighteen years ago)
like, not just dipping a toe in the water
Dr. Mario looks like it may be worth a download, especially with online play...
http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/03/wiiware-impre-5.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIwMibfhAM4
Not too excited about any of the other new titles Kohler has written about so far today.
When are these coming out in the US again?
― Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)
huh.
That's where I'll start, as it's the newest feature. The rules are the same as traditional Dr. Mario -- move the multicolored pills so that they match up with the similarly-colored viruses in the jar, and match a column (not a row!) of four of them to kill them all.
rows work too, noob! at least in the o.g. game.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)
stoked for next tuesday's madness
― El Tomboto, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)
So, which ones will Wii owners here be purchasing?
Or, what are your reasons for not buying any?
― Z S, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 00:32 (seventeen years ago)
Dr. Mario and Lost Winds look mighty tempting.
― Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 02:59 (seventeen years ago)
are you going to buy the final fantasy one where you can spend $10 of real money on a new suit
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 03:18 (seventeen years ago)
so this exists now. anybody taken a look yet?
― Garrett Martin, Monday, 12 May 2008 14:57 (seventeen years ago)
Soon as I get home.
― forksclovetofu, Monday, 12 May 2008 20:38 (seventeen years ago)
I got Lost Winds but haven't played it much. So far it's kind of like Cave Story + Okami. That is, it's terrific.
― abanana, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)
I bought the Final Fantasy one. And like a complete tool, I went ahead and bought a bunch of extra stuff for another $14.
...and it was worth it! I played it all day and was having fun the whole time. The length of the days are just about perfect, just long enough to let you get what you want done, just short enough so that a "turn" is only about 3 or 4 minutes.
― Z S, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 01:45 (seventeen years ago)
Lost Winds seems pretty terrific thus far. It's like if the waggling in Twilight Princess made any sense within the game. Right now I'm downloading that trivia thing to play with the missus. Only drawback thus far: I had to transfer a bunch of VC games to an SD card to download just these two games. I don't see how anybody could have more than three or four WiiWare games active at any time.

This eurogamer article makes Boom Blox sounds bloody amazing.

Does anyone have super smash bros. brawl?
― Dy, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 09:17 (seventeen years ago)
Lost Winds turned out to be very short. I guess I can still hunt down the remaining whatsits.
― abanana, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 04:44 (seventeen years ago)
the game show sucks
― jergïns, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 06:26 (seventeen years ago)
Do they update the questions occasionally or is it repeat nonsense?
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)
i guess there are 3000 questions so you could get repeats if you played it enough. i won't play it enough though
― jergïns, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)
Just generically sucks, eh?
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
it was fun with my wife, but I don't see it getting much of her gaming time as long as that Rock Band mic works.
― Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)
next week, we get gyrostarr. it's like a tempest/n20 type game, but with 4 dude multiplayer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRfAtObNL80
looks fun as fuck.
― Creeztophair, Thursday, 15 May 2008 01:32 (seventeen years ago)

― Creeztophair, Thursday, 15 May 2008 01:33 (seventeen years ago)
So I just got back home from summer hell, and I have bought Dr. Mario. It is my first excuse to use my friend code. Anyone wanna play? My code is...

i've been enjoying the strong bad game.

Apparently they've just released an enhanced version of the gba bit generations title Orbital, now called Orbient - Art Style. Looks like tonight will be the night I finally purchase my first official wiiware title!
― Jeff LeVine, Monday, 29 September 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)
what a perfect way to mark rosh hashanah!

One of the best news items to come out of this, ironically buried in all the other announcements! Really curious about Pixel's involvement.
― Nhex, Friday, 3 October 2008 00:21 (seventeen years ago)
I highly recommend this weeks Art Style release, Cubello. Took me a few games to figure out, even after watching the tutorial, but it's a great little puzzle game for just six dollars. My wrist actually hurts now, cause it's one of those, just one more try type of games. The art and game play is again very simple. just one button this time(!) plus aiming the wii remote, but gets pretty frantic, like higher levels of tetris or lumines, but with you having to think and react faster since the playing field moves in three dimensions. The music and the presentation are really fantastic. It would be cool if you could unlock some extra music tracks, but so far it doesn't look like it. You can unlock an endless mode though, which is nice (if it had online leaderboards that would be even nicer).
― Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 01:42 (seventeen years ago)
I might have to get Cubello; Orbient's been pretty damned good thus far.
― GM, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 02:41 (seventeen years ago)
my life as a king is so stupid but i can't stop playing. it seems deliberately designed so that there are no truly efficient solutions. i've rezoned those stupid mage academies like three times. Z S was the extra content really worht it?

what's preferable, Blaster Master (on VC) or Blaster Master Overdrive (wiiware)?

ArtStyle: light trax is out today in N.A.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvJcnVr-9dg
bit.trip.runner came out last week (gonna pick 'em both up now)
― Jeff LeVine, Monday, 24 May 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)
that better come to EU soon, i replayed Dotstream recently and it was just as fun as the first time around
― zappi, Monday, 24 May 2010 16:23 (fifteen years ago)
I got bit.trip.runner. last night and that game is fantastic. Very challenging, super fast, a great, tight jumping and ducking mechanic, pleasingly retro visuals (especially during the bonus stages) and great music. Extremely addictive too! Highly recommended for anybody with a Wii and a spare 800 points.
― Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 15:57 (fifteen years ago)
anyone who passes up Cave Story on WiiWare should be killed with fire. playing it on the Classic Controller and its amazing d-pad makes the experience a MILLION times better than on the shitty-ass PSP.
― Can the XBox 360 endure a virgin birth? (jamescobo), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 04:44 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah? I read that it was kind of a buggy conversion someplace.
― original bgm, Thursday, 27 May 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)
(have only played on the PC)
― original bgm, Thursday, 27 May 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)
I also read that it was buggy - but on playing it, if there are any bugs, they're not noticeable.
― tomofthenest, Friday, 28 May 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)
bit.trip.runner is infuriatingie. i suckkk at it
― zappi, Friday, 28 May 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
so the WiiWare version of Toribash came out in the US today & THIS GAME IS FUCKING CRAZY! Here's a video (half speed) of a round of an online match I won...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9v3l4u-H2E
Fans of Bushido Blade take note! This is a turn based fighting game / physics puzzle & probably the weirdest thing available on Wii - even weirder because it has online multiplayer and leaderboards.
