It's bonus time. We're bored of the wii. Which do I buy?

(if it helps, we run the gaming gamut in this household. Girls like dancy karaoke and platform games, boy likes racing, strategy & RPGs, for L, stuff with narrative. I want at least RDR, GTA4, some good SHMUPs, a decent racing game, a decent footy game)

help me ILX!!!

they are giving away xbox 360s for students who buy PCs over a certain dollar amount.
So you might be able to get an xbox 360 for free depending on how student-y you are or how friendly you are with students. So my answer is... get both?

I'd go 360 with Kinect (if you have room for it).

Unless you really want a Bluray player and don't mind if your identity gets stolen.

forgot to mention, we have a bluray player already so that doesn't make any odds.

if you don't want ppl stealing your infoz, gotta go 360. also it's awesome.

Xbox all the way. Better games, better 'live' experience and cheaper, at least if you're in the UK.

Lips probably isn't as good as Singstar but, for the rest, you'll be sorted.

Granted you'll probably have to buy a replacement when yours breaks in eighteen months, but it's worth the risk.

can't think for the life of me why anyone would buy a 360 in 2011.

eh, why Roberto? The votes have been pretty much unanimously in that direction so far

I literally bought a 360 for the first time yesterday!

Was heavily swinging towards getting a PS3 up until the recent debacle to be honest, but in any case I'll certainly be playing enough Live to justify the thing

the best racing game is WipeoutHD

my recommendation is to set up a false identity and get a PS3

have swung towards 360 over the past year or so, just prefer the online facility by far. But also because i stupidly bought the small hard drive version of ps3 so now I can't put anymore new games on there.

other than that there's not much in it between the two i feel, small amount of exclusive content for both. 360 does seem to have a larger games library.

I've got both and the PS3 just gathers dust, 360 is a much better machine all round tbh.

If you care about the tech side of things, probably makes sense to go here, choose half a dozen games you think you'll want to play, check which console wins most of those, and go with that.

JimD, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 10:42 (fourteen years ago)

i've got both and barely use the xbox! depends if you like those hollywood fps games, xbox has a load of those.

zappi, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 11:01 (fourteen years ago)

Ha, but I never play those!

JimD, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 12:33 (fourteen years ago)

cant play deadly premonition on the ps3

Actually C+P 2010 has turned out to be a pretty strong pro-360 argument. Exhibit A being Limbo. It's true that 97% of boxed retail titles come out on both formats these days, but there's a LOT of great XBLA-exclusive stuff, and nowhere near as much that's PSN-exclusive.

thanks everyone btw!
