is this a fun game? should i borrow someone's xbox to play this? is it a lament for the aesthetic bankruptcy of a generation of gamers who think 'penny arcade looks pretty good'? did everyone who bought odin sphere go out & start a game development co.? are these rhetorical questions getting stupider?
last: i'll take 5-1 on this placing @ #4 on 2011's c+p results

Yeah it's probably got the Limbo/Braid poll spot on lockdown.

man, the narration is cute and it looks pretty, but the actual gameplay did not seem all that fun in the demo.
― hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 15:31 (fourteen years ago)
haha i was just coming here to ask if there was a way to mute the narration in the full game because i HATED it in the demo

i think the narration is kind of the point? or at least one of them

yo this was good, obviously... how high did it place in C&P again?
gameplay-wise it's short and sweet, though i thought it was pretty repetitive initially. played it about six months ago for a few hours, then dropped it until i felt like knocking it off the backlog this weekend. you get new weapons all the way through to the second to last level, which keeps it a bit fresh, though it doesn't quite feel meaty.
i loved the reveal at the end. sure this kind of reality twisting thing has been done before, and your choices at the end don't really mean much, but what can i say i loved the story and tone
the sheer directorial style/music/art direction/voice over acting is so good, it boosted this over a letter grade for me. it's goddamn gorgeous.

I chose to not undo the calamity. No regrets.
― Jeff, Sunday, 24 June 2012 00:04 (thirteen years ago)
i played about two hours of this before my laptop died which obv great calamity itself i need to decide whether or not to undo
does the gameplay get ... more fun? it just seemed v 'click on things until they die', i couldn't work out at what point skill was going to be involved tbh
― thomp, Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:44 (thirteen years ago)
on ipad now or shortly depending on your region

seems painfully otm. also, i still hate the narrator gimmick.

I don't get the click-til-die thing but I was playing w/ a controller. Felt kinda technical, at least? The weapon challenges are pretty insane.
Not gonna try to defend the narrator thing, though. For me it rode the line between mildly novel/fun and quite annoying.

it takes like a second to beat so it's not a huge investment of time...
― Mordy, Wednesday, 29 August 2012 22:41 (thirteen years ago)
i did not enjoy this
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 30 August 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)
is it a dual-stick setup with a controller? that seems like it makes much, much more sense
― thomp, Thursday, 30 August 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)
i can't imagine why you'd play this on a pc rather than magicka
otoh i can't imagine why anyone, ever would play e.g. diablo so i am maybe not the person to ask
I enjoy the art style lots
― Fiendish Doctor Wu (kingfish), Thursday, 30 August 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
Started playing this ON IPAD. stopped after two minutes. Narration didn't annoy me too much. Stupid arcadey combat with no finesse annoyed me a bit. Having to destroy every stupid piece of scenery for bonuses etc annoyed me immensely. I think I've reached the point where I only want to play huge immersive open world adventures, and puzzle games. And wipeout.

To repair Zulf's damage to the Bastion, the Kid starts collecting Shards, a lesser form of Cores. As he obtains the penultimate shard needed, the Ura attack the Bastion, damaging it and abducting Zia. The Kid then retrieves Zia, who tells him that she had left with the Ura voluntarily to find out their intentions; Rucks had previously told Zia that the Bastion had the ability to somehow fix the Calamity.
this is just the worst shit ever
― ledge, Thursday, 31 January 2013 10:28 (twelve years ago)
that actually sounds a lot worse than how it played out
― Nhex, Friday, 1 February 2013 05:05 (twelve years ago)
did anyone ever manage to get excited about this

bad thing is, it looks like pretty much the same engine and gameplay as Bastion. good thing is, i totally don't mind!
― Nhex, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 21:23 (twelve years ago)
new graphics, new plot, new music -- sounds plenty good to me!
