It has revivified!!!!

czn, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh! Sorry to dig a premature grave. If mine dies tomorrow I deserved it.

melton mowbray, Friday, 28 March 2008 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

... and, dead.

Still under warranty, right?

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 31 March 2008 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

um... I believe my second 360 has gone bad. Not red rings of death, but this mysterious problem...

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=597201

First noticed it a few days ago. The picture started to go all distored. I tried jiggling the cable a bit on the back (thought it might be loose) and that seemed to help - then the distorion came back so I turned off the machine and let it rest for a while. Later it seemed okay, but tonight the distortion came back & when I tried jiggling the cable nothing happened. So I turned off the machine and when I turned it back on I got no signal. Tried a bunch of stuff, but still no signal. Even reset the video settings as suggested on that thread. It's weird because the box seems to turn on fine - just can't get a signal to my tv. Maybe the cable went bad or the connector? Don't really have the time to deal with it right now & I assume it's out of warranty since it's not the red ring problem...

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 3 April 2008 06:40 (eighteen years ago)

cover your 360 in ice packs and hot packs and smoke a pack of cigarettes beside it until it RRoD's and send it back in. :)

but seriously, no idea-- have you tried using the A/V as well as the component connectors? flipping the "TV-HDTV" switch on the connector? if you have a vga cable, try that? borrow someone's connector and try that? bring the 360 to someone else's house and try that too?

Oh, I should've put this link in this thread, I guess:

Calling Microsoft customer service (at least in the US) is a real drag. You should all do it if you haven't, just to see how much fun it can be. 1-800-4MY-XBOX and go thru a few of the hip computerized menus with duder as your guide

RIP ;_;

was wondering why bioshock was running horribly :(

The dude i bought it off had an "extended warranty" from Electronics Boutique. I've got all relevant documentation and it hasnt expired. does that shit transfer to me ok?

it's only two rings because it was flashing when I took the photo; trust me, it's three rings : /

coznebb (cozwn), Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

aw. well, at least they'll replace it for free and give you a free month of live!

Mordy, Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:35 (seventeen years ago)

when i sent mine back for repairs i got it back a few days later

Mordy, Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, to be honest, I could do with a break! last time I sent it off it took about 10 days; I can wait for fallout 3

coznebb (cozwn), Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)

damn, tough break. I knew a guy who accidentally got sent 2 xboxes when he got his repaired for Red Ring of Death.

what U cry 4 (jim), Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)

btw that warranty was bullshit, they refunded the $80 (being the price of the warranty), I didn't really give a shit tho :|

wilter, Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry to hear it... So much for MS having finally fixed this problem... so is this going to be system #3?

Nhex, Monday, 27 October 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

yup

especially annoyed bcs even tho I had the first one repaired I did some shenanigans at the time (don't ask!) so that I could have one with hdmi, so this is supposedly one of the fresher better chip xboxes; it's lasted, what? 6 months? lame

coznebb (cozwn), Monday, 27 October 2008 01:25 (seventeen years ago)

I got RROD after three identical crashes on Fable II on Saturday, and then it started working again, although Fable still starts crashing sometimes

It lasted 19 months

I want an Xbox but everytime I read stuff like this it stops me putting the entire purchase on my credit card for no sensible reason.

Local Garda, Saturday, 1 November 2008 14:33 (seventeen years ago)

I think there are different models which have differing scales of success; don't ask me how you identify them tho apparently the 'jasper' is the one you're looking for; 'zephyrs' are OK too

I still think it's an amazing console; they cost pennies now too, you can get a 360 for almost the equivalent of a new PS2 : /

coznebb (cozwn), Saturday, 1 November 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

I've really grown unaccustomed to playing PC games, I tried to play Counterstrike a week or two ago and was terrible at it. I also tried TF2 and let's just say the less said about that the better. On the other hand I have Half-Life 2 episode 1 that I've never given a shot so that might be an idea!

My flatmate's xbox died last night, but fortunately we had mine for some drunk Pro Evo. Quick towel trick today and it is back in action! So I am a hero thanks to ILG and the links to the towel trick video.

We bragged of the Towel Trick to another friend after it worked, but it only works for about a day before he has to do it again. Pain in the ass.

il miglior Fabio (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

1 3/4 year old TV power supply blew out, I guess - $370 repair bill. Will definitely buy the extended warranty next time.

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

xps. oh i meant to qualify that statement Cozen, it's not again, it's just that it has been broke since last time I posted about it and what is getting old is not having an xbox. I didn't realise just how much of my free time I spent playing it.

amarillo fat (jim), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 17:07 (sixteen years ago)

jesus. how long ago did you send it away? it normally takes about 3 weeks to get one back. no FIFA10 for u lololol (sorry)

cozwn, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)

haha, I didn't send it away cause mine is hax0red so I can't. But usually can be fixed with some tinkering. This hasn't transpired. I'm just worried that I won't have an Xbox for the new Call of Duty. Then I would be phoning the Samaritans.

amarillo fat (jim), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 13:14 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

and my third 360 has now caught a terminal case of the RROD :(

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

ouch

Nhex, Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:55 (sixteen years ago)

Unfortunately it's a year out of the RRoD 3 year warranty, so it would cost $100 to fix. Fortunately (I guess) I also have a Japanese 360 and I was just able to attach my hard-drive to the j360 and I can sign into my US account and have access to my downloaded games and Netflix, and the US games I have and want to play (Like SSFIV) aren't region encoded, so they seem to work fine on the j360 too. So I guess it's not too big of a deal (until my j360 dies).

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 1 May 2010 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

My xbox has started having freezing problems. No RROD yet, but it feels like just a matter of time. :/

Mordy, Saturday, 1 May 2010 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

I've done this three times

:(

the poster below this is an A-voter (cozen), Saturday, 1 May 2010 21:58 (sixteen years ago)

yeah I am pondering putting the rrod cost + games against a ps3.

βΠψ (bnw), Saturday, 1 May 2010 22:20 (sixteen years ago)

We all end up in this thread, eventually. 360 slim coming before Xmas, right? Wouldn't be surprised if all the remaining fat ones go RROD just in time for that.

JimD, Saturday, 1 May 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

I have an HDMI arcade now (possibly jasper) and I've had no troubles w/it so far, touch wood

the poster below this is an A-voter (cozen), Saturday, 1 May 2010 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

i wonder if the slim model will cost less than the current arcade, but probably not. the horror stories continue to scare me, in any case

Nhex, Sunday, 2 May 2010 01:11 (sixteen years ago)

Um, so yep. RROD.

Mordy, Sunday, 2 May 2010 02:34 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, so maybe not? I disconnected the power source and reconnected and it's working again. So, yay for now?

Mordy, Sunday, 2 May 2010 02:41 (sixteen years ago)

Crashed again, got another red rings, unplugged replugged, working again. Not sure if this is the death knell or what's up.

Mordy, Sunday, 2 May 2010 02:55 (sixteen years ago)

So, if unplugging and plugging it back in "fixes" it, does that mean it's not a severe hardware failure?

Mordy, Sunday, 2 May 2010 02:59 (sixteen years ago)

maybe your power brick is going bad?

jeff, Sunday, 2 May 2010 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

probably preferable to an xbox hardware failure. it's been working since i last posted, btw.

Mordy, Sunday, 2 May 2010 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

And today it officially bit the dust. I think I'm covered under the extended warranty tho.

Mordy, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

if yr box is less than three years old you definitely are (though i believe they should repair RROD indefinitely, as its obv. a design fault). today i need to get my ass in gear and organise the ups pickup of my broken box...

went ham in a bad way (stevie), Thursday, 6 May 2010 07:03 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not sure that my box is less than three years old, but I think it's been less than 3 years since my last RROD which was also extended warranty covered.

Mordy, Thursday, 6 May 2010 11:01 (sixteen years ago)

So in your guy's experiences, how long after they post that they're shipping it back does it take to reach you? Cause they said they were shipping it back on Monday, and it's Wednesday and UPS still says Billing Information received but that it hasn't even been picked up yet.

Mordy, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 19:06 (sixteen years ago)

mine arrived today, and was sorted on sunday, so i reckon yours will be due back tomorrow? tho i am britishes.

#klohasmadecrazierpoliticalpredictions (stevie), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

My 360 won't read any discs anymore. I had the laser replaced once before, but I think it's time to get a newer system. But everyone is sold out of the 250gb one! Argh.

Guess I'm PS3 exclusive for awhile.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 March 2011 17:59 (fifteen years ago)

Pachter is spreading an E3 price-drop rumor, but that doesn't really mean much, since there's some percentage he's right regardless just because it's E3
