ok, this is about games that are not very open-ended, but have a plot, like fps's, and have a scalable difficulty level?

what order do you do the difficulties in?

assuming games have four (easy medium hard insane), my pattern has been to play thru the first time on hard, then whip thru again while in the flush of excitement on easy, then later on try to soldier thru it on insane. if there are only 3 i go medium-easy-hard.

i've been playing halo on my powerbook (god bless you bittorrent) and the insane level lunges from frustrating as shit to boring as shit, but will i keep playing? yes, yes i will.

anyway, what do you do?

my short attention span distracts me from playing thru games again, but i usually start on "normal"

Depends on my mood. I normally play on Normal (As it's generally what the game devs intended instead of being a completly unbalanced and barely tested shit-flinging match) but if I just feel like blowing shit up I'll go for easy.

I am dreadful at games, no reflexes at all, but love the discovery and immersion and everything so if there's an easy mode I will leap on it like a grateful puppy. Otherwise I'll resign myself to playing a third of the thing and hoping my wife likes it enough to bother finishing it.

I'm lazy, I go for easy all the damn time :( Even now I am a mega SimCity4 nerd who can whip up a megalopolis in a day, I'll still do so on easy instead of hard! Hahaha I suck =)

Games shouldn't have this option imo, I don't like having to choose this at the start of my games.
anyway i will always go for normal and never come back and play the game on hard. nobody should ever choose easy.

one month passes...
I've just bought killer7, and am a couple of hours in on "Normal" mode. The thing's absolutely brilliant, but way too easy. Instead of giving me the option of Normal and Hard at the beginning, why didn't they just say "Blind child with no fingers mode" and "Normal"? I reckon I should definitely start again. The first couple of hours will be fun to replay anyway, and get to grips with some level of difficulty.

Melton: you may also want to start skipping Iwazaru if you like figuring things out on your own-- he becomes more and more likely to give you "duh" hints as the game goes on. I don't know what's up with that; Killer 7 isn't worth playing through to the end unless you enjoy being disoriented. I loved it.

Hah, spot on. He's just about become unbearable now! Loving the game even more now. The "Cloudman" chapter was incredible! Now I'm on some insanely hard boss (car park girl), and have just about had enough. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, is it just a matter of shooting like mad at her with Dan/Kaede when she's under the lights?

(That's right, I'll quite happily ignore transparent ring-modulated freaks and claim I don't need their help, but I'll be straight on ILX asking for hints.)
