SO likes Mario & Sonic Olympics, I wanna play Zelda. We fite. she wins.

She is plaing thru my copy of Lost Odyssey and I have to keep reminding her to turn down the vlume or something when I am around cos I hate spoilers. But even so a couple things got spoiled for me. Luckily I'm only like 3h behind her so they get unspoiled the next day.
I've definitely turned her into a "gamer," though. It lets me play pretty much all the games I want, as long as we keep up on our TV shows and she gets the occasional RPG or Katamari or Mr. Driller game in.
HATES when I play sports games tho. Because they're not fun to watch. Also, space shooters, I think. Likes watching N+ but hates playing it.

i can remember my ex playing the following games: katamari, we <3 katamari, harvest moon, below the root, & kingdom of loathing.

My wife likes watching me play RPGs: in the past lots of Might and Magics and Neverwinter Nights, more recently KOTOR and Oblivion. I'm thinking about picking up Eternal Sonata so that we can play through in co-op; she hates shooters and is bad at sports games and so this seems like the best co-op I can find. Other ideas would be welcomed though.

Sunny has started playing GTA:SA again. I sneak in after she's put the game down and go jump off buildings. When she comes back, she's pissed because they limo she parked out front is gone.

If I ask my gf what she wants to play, it's almost 100% always going to be "Sonic" or "Sonic 2", but I've managed to get her playing more games than that thanks to her inability to let me just enjoy a game myself. If I'm playing something, enjoying it, she'll see that and go "Can I have a turn next". Of course I often have to explain to her that it's going to take me about another 20hours to complete Zelda so there isn't so much a "next", just a "when I get bored or have to go make my dinner".
That said, she LOVES playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Wii, and it really does make pretty good multiplayer fun, and stops me having to watch her play Sonic all the time. I can also distract her when I want to play a proper game for a while by handing her a DS with the 'obvious' titles like Phoenix Wright, Cooking Mama, Trauma Centre, etc.

Watching Halo makes my gf ill, and playing it drives her batty. Can't get her away from GTA, Wario Ware or Tetris though. Wake up in the middle of the night to hear Russian jives.
― stet, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)
^I have heard that about Halo from other girls too! I am guessing some of those Portal levels would be vomit-inducing O_O

my gf and i don't live together yet, and mainly hang out at hers. but when she's had male housemates in the past she's enjoyed GTA, and is excited about playing GTAIV at mine.
― stevie, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)
there'd be no reason to own Rock Band without one.
other than that and Animal Crossing, she has no interest in video games whatsoever.
― Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:49 (seventeen years ago)
my bf is not really into video games but he has gotten me into playing CCGs.
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)
Only wants to play Tetris or Dr. Mario, and only likes playing those when she wins, which I'm sorry to say isn't often enough. But, she doesn't mind if I play games, as we don't really watch TV or movies that much, and I only play games when she's around maybe once a week.
― Z S, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)
haha CCGs! awesome
will ask SO if she likes CCGs
― czn, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)
update: no
Mine had never played games before and has since beaten a handful by her lonesome. She also got strangely into me playing FFXII, which was neat.
― forksclovetofu, Thursday, 10 April 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)
NO and I mean NO interest in retro-gaming; she doesn't even understand the appeal of nes punchout, which seems close to a dealbreaker, really.
― forksclovetofu, Thursday, 10 April 2008 05:03 (seventeen years ago)
As a connect to that other thread, I wonder how this thread would be different if adventure games were still in fashion. In my own vague anecdotal recollections I knew more females (maybe... one?) into video gaming for this season in the early '90s. Humorous, character and dialogue-driven, fill in the blank.
― Nhex, Thursday, 10 April 2008 06:03 (seventeen years ago)
Nothing. 'Er indoors and games are 100% mutually exclusive, despite my best efforts.

We played this on one of our first dates. The other day we couldn't think of one good thing in the entire world. The I remembered FREEWAY and that was about the perfect cheer up.

For about six months I was forcing anyone who came to my house to play Freeway.
somehow an old g/f and I turned the very boring "hoyle puzzle and board games" into a strip-poker like thing.
― bnw, Monday, 14 April 2008 04:10 (seventeen years ago)
i cant help but think of ninentdo games as chick games. Wii kind of solidified that.
In any case, I can't believe anyone likes watching someone else play video games. I either get antsy to play myself or Im bored. By sports games do you mean team sports (football, basketball etc) only or does that include skateboarding, snowboarding etc?
― sunny successor, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
i would include skateboarding/snowboarding. i can't tell you the hours spent watching my ex play SSX tricky.
― bell_labs, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)
i bought my girlfriend a DS with zelda and mario. problem pretty much solved.

Either, really-- she just isn't interested in these sort of games because they don't really have a narrative-- they're about learning and mastering a set of rules, nothing more. A lot of fun to work your own way through, but I certainly wouldn't watch someone play a sports games, and I like plying them!
