antexit, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

I'm excited about Civilization Revolution and NBA Ballers: Chosen One, in addition to GTA IV and Soul Calibur 4 already mentioned.

Euler, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

gears 2 co-signed
lego batman

essentially a list thread, but it's nice to know what's coming up anyway

czn, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

Over the next few months...

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Grand Theft Auto 4
Echochrome
Metal Gear Solid 4
Wipeout HD

antexit - I've heard some pretty bad stuff about Saints Row 2, just a warning. czn - I'm REALLY looking forward to Left for Dead too, but I get the feeling it's a long ways off.

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

There was a time when GT5 would gotten big interest from me, but 3 and 4 were so f'ing huge I couldn't put in the kind of time they required, and I'm afraid that will happen again. Plus I don't have a PS3.

dan m, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

it's funny - there was a big spread on l4d in edge a few months ago but I've still no idea if its an fps or what

czn, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

mario kart wii cmon

stet, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

stet, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

Resident Evil 5, Starcraft 2, Fallout 3

bnw, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

RE 5 is '09 tho :(

bnw, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

Okami on the Wii will be the next game I buy.

Too Human looks interesting, too.

That Bionic Commando remake on XBLA still excites me more than anything else, though.

Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

baroque came out this week so I can't post about it here.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

oh geez you guys are making me open my spreadsheets

by the way, is ikaruga NOT out today or something? what's the story? jeffe mentioned something about how he WAS excited for it, and now czn's saying it's "upcoming" even though it's supposed to be out now... i am scared guys :(

ikaruga: upcoming cos I was at the office when I write this. I'll be rotating my monitor like all y'all just as soon as I get home

czn, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

*wrote. damn phone

czn, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

From browsing the Alan Wake site & forum, seems like it'll be Q1 or Q2 2009.

Stoked for L4D and Gears 2. Also Silent Hill 5, which may be an '09 event, too.

scampering alpaca, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I don't think Alan Wake will be out this year either.

czn - L4D is a FPS. Four people play survivors trying to get to the end of a level (from one end of a map to the other, essentially) while being endlessly attacked by various kinds of zombies who can be controlled by a mix of other players and computer A.I. There's lots of gameplay footage out there...

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

that sounds awesome

Jordan, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

actually, eh, i still want a game like jon was talking about where you can mastermind a bunch of slow zombies (rather than singularly control a super zombie monster).

Jordan, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

FFT A2, me too, even if it turns out to be exactly like the first GBA sequel.

Z S, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

I want a turn-based tactical game based on this:

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

that fallout 3 looks ace!!

czn, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

Silent Hill games are my favorite to rent for a weekend, shutout the world, and play straight through.

bnw, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

After finishing SH3 per some criteria I'm forgetting, you can replay w/ an unlimited ammo machine gun from the very start. Yahoo, Scarface!

scampering alpaca, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

of games a bit further out, I'm definitely looking forward to Fallout 3, and two games that haven't been mentioned here yet, I don't think - Mafia 2 and Mirror's Edge...

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

I enjoyed FFTA a great deal and will probably get sucked in to the sequel like I did with the first one. I think it got a bad shake because too many people were expecting another super-serious mythological storyline like in the original, and were too harsh on the Judgement system. In many respects it streamlined the gameplay from the first - I never actually beat the original FFT, but I eventually made my way to the end of FFTA.

Also up for Bangai-O, World Ends With You, and Etrian Odyssey II (never got the first one) if I can actually afford to buy all this stuff. Damn you DS for being such a good system...

Fallout 3, I kinda want but a)not sure how well it will run on my iMac and b)it has the unenviable task of living up to 2 legendary games.

Nhex, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

Race Driver: GRID - June 13th. Actually really looking forward to it - I'm not sure it's actually coming out that soon, but that's the amazon date - will be quite pleased if true...

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

five months pass...

there is such a flood of promising titles lined up for the rest of the year that at least a couple of them have to turn out AWESOME

DO WANT NOW:
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Last Remnant
PES09

PROMISING BUT NOT SURE:
Little Big Planet
Age of Booty
Eternal Sonata port port port
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
Legendary
Prince of Persia

WILL GET ONE DAY, AM IN NO HURRY:
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

Lego Batman this weekend! Possibly even on Steam!
Tomb Raider: Underworld
haha The Fool and His Money, the six-years-in-the-making sequel to Fool's Errand! No really, any day now!
Assassin's Creed (this isn't out yet is it? I think I got the impression that you will need a 4D computer to even run it)
Diablo III

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 14:16 (seventeen years ago)

"Spider-Man: Web of Shadows" looks tasty

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

^yes, but have been burned by Spidey titles before. am staying cautious.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 14:20 (seventeen years ago)

I find myself feeling exceptionally skeptical about this season's batch of first person shooters. Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Dead Space, Call of Duty whatever, Far Cry 2... I mean they all look pretty promising, but they all look kind of the same, like I've already played this game a hundred times before too. I guess I am finally pretty burned out on the genre (though I may still end up picking up one or two). Left 4 Dead will hopefully satisfy my shooty play. So right now, the games I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year are

Little Big Planet
FIFA 09 and/or PES 09
Mirror's Edge
Ketsui Death Label
Fallout 3
Valkyria Chronicles
Prince of Persia
Metal Slug 7

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

Just bought Silent Hill : Homecoming, so that's one off my April note.

Not sure about Left 4 Dead now - looks incredibly hectic, so I'll wait to see footage and/or play a demo.

Mirror's Edge looks AMAZING, with the same level of immersion as Breakdown, but timing consecutive jumps is a game weakness, so will also probably wait for demo.

Gamestop is listing pre-order bonuses for both L4D & Dead Space, though, and that's enticing.

scampering alpaca, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

KOOL AID IS YUM:
Dead Space
Gears of War II

SKEPTICAL:
Fallout 3
Prince of Persia

NEED MORE INFO:
Mirror's Edge
Heavy Rain
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
Left 4 Dead

David R., Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:42 (seventeen years ago)

Dead Space

Watched my friend play this; it's awesome.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

Mirrors Edge
Prince of Persia
Retro Game Challenge
that xbox live arcade game thats like a silent movie with the really long title that i can't remember now
Dotstream wiiware (if it exists)

zappi, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

The cool thing about Dead Space is that while it does have a lot of survival elements, essentially you're a maintenance man on the ship, and you still have to go do your job. He was playing this one level where you're cleaning up in a deck, but they have to turn the antigravity off until you finish up. So you've got your gravity boots on, jumping around, switching perspective, and there are aliens around. Survival horror is scary enough in 3D space when you have gravity on your side!

Also, the menu system is fantastic. It's rendered in 3D as a projection from your suit, and your power is a part of your suit. No HUD, no junk on the screen. It's very immersive.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

the cool thing about it is you have to work as a maintenance man while you're playing?

s1ocki, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

thumbs down, s1ocki

David R., Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

just like the original Mario Brothers

GM, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

I too anticipate Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and Fallout 3, but doubt I'll be playing any of them nearly as long or as often as Little Big Planet.

GM, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

lol @ mario bros

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

the cool thing about it is you have to work as a maintenance man while you're playing?

I guess that doesn't sound very fun, huh!

This is why I'm not a video game reviewer.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'd totally buy a Damage Control / Rosencrantz and Guildenstern style game, where you go around fixing all the stuff the main character busts

GM, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

I remember one of the Half Life expansions where you played as Barney, the security guard that you met at the start and then never saw again (until Half-Life 2). I think there was also one as a member of the marines, though I don't recollect whether you ever got to shoot any scientists.

Last Remnant: http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/21944

combat sequences look tasty

street jungle patois (Roberto Spiralli), Thursday, 9 October 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

played a few hours of Dead Space last night; it's like Resident Evil 4's control scheme dropped in a Metroid game, with a noticeable Bioshock influence

GM, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

but yeah, it's pretty damn good, and has a unique atmosphere, despite the obvious influences.

GM, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Entertainment Weekly gave it a B+, with the complaint that there's too much replay in some sections, if you get killed between save points.

scampering alpaca, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

another criticism is that you revisit areas a lot adding to the feeling of repetition. also am surprised it's only a 12-hour game. but generally lots more good being said than bad in reviews. i am super excited about picking this up tomorrow.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

i am definitely looking forward to killing a weekend w/dead space

Hopeful that Golden Axe will be good.

got the old one on xbox live. it hasn't aged overly well lol.

wilter, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

Am I the only one thinking about picking up Far Cry 2 next week? I like the idea of an open world game that's not set in the middle of a city, for once. I've watched some people playing on ustream for a bit, and I thought it looked pretty good. It also apparently has a very robust level editor.

And what about the new Midnight Club (now with daylight)?

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 18 October 2008 03:03 (seventeen years ago)

Far Cry 2 getting v strong reviews. not interested at all myself.
the new Golden Axe game got hammered
new Spidey game also looks like it is going to take a beating from reviewers too. 5.7 on IGN.
