i don't mean to step on anyone else's toes (esp. if someone else already called it and i didn't see), but i'd really like to run it this year. i've never done one, and i'm nerdy enough that to trick out the results with all sorts of stuff that takes forever to compile. the results will actually make you high.

mordy: hmmm...do you have any ideas about how to do that? do you mean farming out some of the top placing results to ilxors to write a little blurb? or do have something else in mind?

idk, i just feel like we have a big group of smart game players here on ilx who know games and write well about things and surely we can conquer the world w/ those skills

oh, don't get me wrong, i'm all for the idea! maybe i'll start a thread devoted to the idea, to see who would be willing to help. it would also be neat to get a handful of people to cover a few topics other than reviews/critiques of top placing games. i don't follow gaming journalism closely enough to know what's played out and what isn't it, but maybe stuff like the continuing shift from console gaming to phones (at least, that's true with me. i know that a much greater % of my gaming time is on my iphone these days as compared to last year, even).

my main fear would be that people either a) only 1 or 2 pepole are willing to commit to writing something and/or b) several people commit but when never follow through.

How do we normally deal with games that are old but new to some particular format in a given year? I'm thinking of Pinball FX2/Zen Pinball, two names for what's basically the same game, it's new this year on iOS and 3DS and while the PSN and XBLA versions have been around for a while, they're constantly adding new tables to it anyway.

In the past, we nominate the game and request that people only vote for it if they played it on the system it was new for.
For updates or DLC, that gets nominated as a separate game.
Ongoing/constantly changing games (like WOW or Glitch) can be renominated each year as long as there's a reasonable amount of new content added over the calendar year.

yeah the gameplay is fundamentally different from the version(s) out last year and the .383 patch was probably the biggest single change in the games mechanics? idk i only listed it cuz i want to vote for it but if there are any other civ players here they can chime in on whether its a 'new' game or not? i guess its not a big deal either way
