Donkey Kong Jr. is fine! DK Jr., is the son of the original DK (obv). DK Sr. became known later in the series as Cranky Kong, and DK Jr. dropped the Jr. form his name and is now just Donkey Kong.

So DK Jr. is ok, he just grew up, lost the kid's T-shirt and got a necktie. I don't know why I know this. I thought I read it on ILX actually.

re: the DK Country sequels, they are AWESOME. Like as good if not better than the first game. Way more secret levels and shit, that's for sure.

The Donkey Kong character introduced in the Donkey Kong Country is stated to be the grandson of the original Donkey Kong, who appears in the game as an elderly ape named Cranky Kong.[4] (although, a representative of Rare stated shortly after the release of Donkey Kong 64 that the current Donkey Kong was meant to be an adult version of Donkey Kong Jr.[5]). This Donkey Kong is portrayed as a powerful, yet lazy and laid-back ape who was more interested in lounging than heroics, and as such was constantly vilified by Cranky and his peers. The series introduced a sidekick for Donkey: his hyperactive friend, Diddy, and DK's crocodilian archenemy, King K. Rool.

There was a knockoff (untitled) version of the original with reordered levels at the local pet store when I was young. It was easier than regular DK, so I spent a lot of time with it. I guess some DKs have dip switches to make the game a little easier, tho.
