Steam is the biggest culprit here, along with Gamefly/GameStop clearances.

i have played at least 30 minutes of all of my games, but if you count less than an hour as unplayed then "i can't even begin to think about it"

Rachel Profiling (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 April 2012 17:53 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i probably have at least 10 games i bought on steam when they were <$5 and havent touched yet

ciderpress, Thursday, 26 April 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

If this is counting non-current games, then 'I can't even begin to think about it'. For starters I have at least a couple of dozen or so PS1 games that I picked up cheap, as many PC games, and there's a couple of Sega Saturn games and I don't even own a Saturn. Funnily enough, I've been very disciplined in with Steam, as I've played everything I've bought there.

Just some very recent XBLA purchases, but that's because I've had a clear out and traded the (physical) ones which it was clear I wasn't going to play.

if, Thursday, 26 April 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)

I bought a Humble Indie Bundle and never played any of the games. :/

polyphonic, Thursday, 26 April 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

HIB is for charity though, so it doesn't really count.

i don't think i've even downloaded any freeware that i've never played, far less paid cash money for something.

tbf some things i might've played about twice.

oh and i've got Skyrim installed cos our Elliot bought it for my birthday despite me telling him the engines on the computer wouldnae take it

I bought The Witcher and ME2 but never actually installed them

ILX uh-huh-uh uh-huh uh-huh BEEP BOOP BOOP BEEP (snoball), Thursday, 26 April 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

yeah someone got me a game as a gift on steam, not yet played. which is shameful I know.
Also a couple of other Total Wars games on Steam, which were all on offer one weekend.

I also bought the complete batch of the Monkey Island games, not the old classics but the newer ones. Played the first one of the batch, didn't like the new style animation. Never bothered with the rest. Think it was a one off deal or something.

PSOD (Ste), Thursday, 26 April 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

voted 10-25, but given the # of iOS games I buy on sale & then sit sit sit on it's probably over 25. those Christmas sales are so good!

Euler, Thursday, 26 April 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

I have a tonne of games that I've bought but I'm saving for long months of recovery an inevitable major operation or what have you. Mostly RPGs. I've never played a Bioware game but I buy them when I see them on sale. JRPG collections, Bethesda stuff. Never even opened them, seeing as I'm healthy as an ox, win-win, you see

poxen, Thursday, 26 April 2012 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

50-100, I tried to count it, but I'm sure I was leaving a bunch out. A lot of those are Steam cheapies and indie bundles, but a shameful amount are just games that have been left on a shelf, sealed and never opened, for years...

Hah, I didn't even count iOS. Even the ones I paid for... that would add another dozen or so.

I rarely buy used (though recent Best Buy and Gamefly sales have been taking their toll) but it's really hard for me to resist a current generation game that I have the slightest interest in that's ~$5. But the nice part is, I really don't spend that much since I hardly ever buy games at release, and never at full price.

I'm a crazy hoarder when it comes to video games though, no doubt. You'll see me on one of those cable shows in a 20 years, all alone, dying in a collapsing house, but instead of dead cats it'll be mint condition cases... I went through a REALLY long time in my life where I had ample time to play but no money to buy these games, so maybe I'm just kinda backsliding hardcore

Nhex, Thursday, 26 April 2012 22:38 (thirteen years ago)

I voted 25-30, pretty much all RPGs. The others range from "fodder for convalescence" (MGS 3), gifts (Uncharted), highly recommended and bought for cheap but haven't played (Psychonauts, Eternal Darkness), a couple of iOS titles that I'm saving for a long flight (Monkey Island, Pirates) and a handful of N64 games that I bought as a teenager in a fit of completism (Conker, Excitebike, Paper Mario, Blast Corps)

poxen, Thursday, 26 April 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)

i voted 1-5. i own a lot of games, but i also play a lot of games, so most get played at some point or another. (notable exceptions are games like europa 3 on Steam whatever that i bought and my macbook couldn't really handle system reqs so i'm waiting for computer upgrade before i can really play them.)

Mordy, Thursday, 26 April 2012 22:55 (thirteen years ago)

man i am totally difft from you guys.

i usually mainline 1 game at a time until i've totally seen its last little corner, most often a big marquee title. i game on an xbox. i am the enemy! maybe

goole, Thursday, 26 April 2012 23:19 (thirteen years ago)

I basically never buy hard copies of console games unless I know I want to play them a lot. But iOS games and other downloadable games are a different story.

polyphonic, Thursday, 26 April 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

I hoard them too. w/ every console I say I need one fighting game, one air combat game, one pro football, one college football, one soccer, etc etc etc. & then lots of rpgs which I'm gonna play one of these days I promise, right, when it's very rainy

& like others I wait until they've reached low price & I get all the dlc in the GOTY edition so there are all these expansions & sooooo much content & I can never start b/c once you start you're gonna want to play it into the ground so instead I'll play another round of Ticket to Ride ON IPAD thank you very much

& oh good grief if I had a pc or didn't complain about booting into windows I'd be even worse b/c gog.com every week has some sale where I'm like "yes I loved the Temple of Elemental Evil module so I should get the game, sure, I'll have 40 hours sitting around for that"

Euler, Thursday, 26 April 2012 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

A bunch of cheap PS2 horror games (Fatal Frame, plus II III, Siren, Clock Tower 3, etc.) and Xbox games (XIII, Advent Rising, Pariah, Deus Ex, etc.) that I still plan to get to. Doing pretty well on the 360, though - just Shadows of the Damned & Brutal Legend waiting after the latest Silent Hill).

this is me pretty much, except for iphone and even then i tend to play to death if i don't delete immediately after trying and disliking. however ticket to ride has been sitting unridden on there for a few months now.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Friday, 27 April 2012 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

i play everything i buy, but since since "coming back" into gaming and actually having money (versus high-school allowance) for these things, i tend to buy new games rather than finish old ones

right now, i've still got to beat:

- uncharted
- gta 4
- katamari damacy
- silent hill 2
- final fantasy x
- medieval II: total war

and shit tons of steam games, mostly humble bundle stuff

kelpolaris, Friday, 27 April 2012 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

speaking of Katamari we shd have a thread for "what games will you never finish 100 percent because fuck collecting a million roses right?"

seapunk run. run punk run! (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 April 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not going to count games bought through Steam, etc, on a whim as that would be truly depressing. But between XBox 360, PS3 and 3DS I have over 20 - basically any 'big' title from the last ~2/3 years that hasn't been nominated in the C&P polls... What a colossal waste of money. I have a rule that I don't buy full-price games, but the moment a title-of-interest drops below £20, I'll scoop it up even though I know I have an ever-increasing list of unplayed games.

CraigG, Saturday, 28 April 2012 11:05 (thirteen years ago)

*that hasn't been nominated in C&P = games I haven't put on my ballot, I mean.

I didn't want to do the homework to find out my answer to this poll but 5-10 seems about right (not including Might&MagicM1-5 in the anthology edition). Mostly unplayed PS2 games.

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 6 May 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

the poll's options were a little too large...should've counted by 2's, fool

kelpolaris, Sunday, 6 May 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

pfft, if people were being honest and including steam/iOS games I am not taking these answers as honest

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 6 May 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

10-20 ps2 games, 5-10 ds games, 20ish steam games

thomp, Sunday, 6 May 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

If we exclude indie bundles and things bought for under £5 in Steam sales (way too many) then probably 1-5, but I have a big stack of PSP and PC games which I have played for half an hour each and fully intended to come back to at some point months/years ago

probably a couple of PC games which I bought (again, in sales) and then discovered didn't run on my graphics card too
