idk maybe its just me, but has anything really cool come out yet this year? normally i have an itchy trigger finger list of stuff ill grab the minute it does a price drop or goes used but so far this year i got nothing? anybody else feeling this?

Now I'm singing 'console wasteland' to the tune of The Who's 'Baba O'Riley'.
― Radical Jedward (snoball), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)
pretty much, i've only played xbox live stuff like trials and i am alive (and fez for minute, but i pretty much gave up on that).
― 40oz of tears (Jordan), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)
how far did you get on fez? the intro part is sort of boring but once you get into the game proper it's pretty fun.
I really love Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. It's a little shallow but the different classes and weapons are pretty diverse. I stopped playing the single player campaign about 2/3 of the way through.
Only played a bit of Max Payne 3 but it seems like a well crafted game.
But yeah, good time to play games you missed from previous seasons.

I bought a bunch of stuff for my Vita, if that counts
btw, Virtua Tennis 4 is super easy and Rayman: Origins is BEAUTIFUL

i have rayman origins for the 360 and yeah its amazing, but i think the console version came out last year. wow do i love it tho.
― I want L'interieur chicken, not Hausu chicken (jjjusten), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:45 (thirteen years ago)
i didn't get very far outside of the village, just past the first hub and i got stuck. i don't know if i have enough time to make it worthwhile, seems like it would be tough to play it in ~20 min bursts and remember where things are?
xp

I feel like most of this year console-wise can be summed up by the existence of Lollipop Chainsaw
― that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:47 (thirteen years ago)
hey now, i am excited abt lollipop chainsaw!
― I want L'interieur chicken, not Hausu chicken (jjjusten), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:48 (thirteen years ago)
did that come out already?
― I want L'interieur chicken, not Hausu chicken (jjjusten), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:49 (thirteen years ago)
not yet, it comes out June 12
it's just... a cheerleader with a chainsaw chopping up zombies? really?
― that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
I bought Journey for PS3 and, um, that's it.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
i never know what games are out until next year's coint and plick anyway so this year's been good to me so far
― sonderangerbot, Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:43 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, I think I'm kind of done with consoles for the next few years at least. I'm getting ready to sell my 360 (btw if anyone wants one I'll give you a fair deal and ship it to you!) and probably my tv as well. Laptop's all I need.
― Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Thursday, 31 May 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)
lollipop chainsaw is a collab between suda 51 and the dude who wrote slither tho! its going to be awesome right until the point that i actually get it and play it and find out that the gameplay is terrible, but still, more exciting to me than any of the other stuff ive heard of.
― I want L'interieur chicken, not Hausu chicken (jjjusten), Thursday, 31 May 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

If you look at the map it tells you what you've missed in a given location, but yeah it is a little bit easy to forget where you are.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 31 May 2012 21:03 (thirteen years ago)
StoryLollipop Chainsaw focuses on zombie hunter and cheerleader Juliet Starling (voiced by Tara Strong in English and Eri Kitamura/Yōko Hikasa in Japanese) who fights hordes of zombies in San Romero High School, which Starling formerly attended. She carries with her the severed, yet still living, head of her boyfriend Nick (voiced by Michael Rosenbaum in English and Kenichi Suzumura in Japanese), who she decapitated after he suffered a zombie bite. It is also revealed that Juliet will be assisted by her sisters, Cordelia Starling (Linda Cardellini), the elder one and Rosalind Starling the younger sister.[5] The enemy zombies are led by "a group of zombie rock and roll lords" who were former high school students who were turned into intelligent zombies. [6] The zombie outbreak has been caused by Juliet's former classmate, an evil goth sorcerer named Swan (voiced by Sean Gunn).
― I want L'interieur chicken, not Hausu chicken (jjjusten), Thursday, 31 May 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)
Juliet's boyfriend Nick, a disembodied head hanging from her skirt, can be used for various purposes, including being kicked at enemies by Juliet or being put on the body of a decapitated zombie to control it.

all of that basically sounds terrible, like they literally took five other games and mashed them together to make Buffy The Zombie Slayer: The Video Game

as a dude who likes games most when they are a hot mess, this is pretty much gaming nirvana for me, esp since i expect it will be in the bargain bins within weeks of release xpost

On Wednesday, February 1st, 2012, it was announced that Jimmy Urine from the electro-punk band Mindless Self Indulgence would compose the music for the boss segments. He will also provide the voice for Zed, a punk-rock themed boss.[12]
I think this will end up being your game of the year

oh word. i'm pretty sure i missed a key two early on that's preventing me from continuing on.
i'm hoping to play some big games this fall if they're decent, like Hitman/RE6/maybe Assassin's Creed 3 even though i gave up on 2.

man again today i have the itch to buy something new to play but man nothing springs to mind. is the witcher 2 (360 expando stuff humping edition or w/e) good or is it just the only thing that reviewers can even try to hype that came out this year?

I say don't do it.
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Wednesday, 1 August 2012 21:17 (twelve years ago)
they say that game is complex and involving. can i say, not really up your alley maybe?
― goole, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 21:31 (twelve years ago)
i liked the 1st game on pc but hated playing 2 on xbox. the controls are weird and unresponsive and moving thru the menus via controller is a drag.
― adam, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 21:34 (twelve years ago)
But also I don't really think the controls work on the console as well as they do on the pc.

i am kinda into recettear right now
― I dont even know that I think this sucks per se (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 1 August 2012 22:21 (twelve years ago)
really what i want is skyrim 2/fallout: san fran or something - so involving is not a deal-breaker at all, but yeah i get your point. same reason that i havent even really considered demon/dark souls or whatever.

get dark souls it's the best game ever
― skrill xx (cozen), Thursday, 2 August 2012 18:13 (twelve years ago)
worried abt xcom, not because of any fanboy whatever but because i read the mid stage game informer thing on it and it seemed a little aimless/look at all the cool shit we think we might be able to do to me.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 2 August 2012 18:13 (twelve years ago)
i'm worried about it too, but what can you do. my computer ain't up to snuff so i'm hoping the console version isn't weak.
― Nhex, Thursday, 2 August 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago)
i think i am way way too wussy/easily frustrated to deal w/dark souls from everything ive heard

it is the best tho

you can hide in a corner and hope
― I dont even know that I think this sucks per se (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 2 August 2012 18:58 (twelve years ago)
the great thing about no pause is that, even when you are in a spot where you are 99% sure no mobs will get to you, some asshole will probably invade your game and kill you while you're taking a piss.
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:03 (twelve years ago)
also, you are pretty much certain to pick up your controller again and accidentally hit a back button that strafes your guy off a cliff, at least once
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago)
sounds great
― goole, Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago)
it kinda is? it introduces weird stakes into the game where you gotta play by its rules
― I dont even know that I think this sucks per se (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:10 (twelve years ago)
yeah that's absolutely it, it is totally in keeping with the spirit of the game.
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:13 (twelve years ago)
anyway, we've done this like eight times already; it's not for everybody.
― I dont even know that I think this sucks per se (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:14 (twelve years ago)
i'm just playing, it sounds amazing and i wish it had existed when i was between the ages of 12 - 25 because i would have been obsessed with it. now i can't have nice things.
― 40oz of tears (Jordan), Thursday, 2 August 2012 19:19 (twelve years ago)
Still need a next-gen console, since there's enough gems from this one I havent tried yet.
The Steam Sale and Amazon deals got me good on PC Gaming for a while.

I have dark souls and I cant get into it.. I beat demons' souls too. I've basically been stuck in that first main area for an eternity and I got bored and went on with my life.

yeah, this is being hyped to the gills. game informer did a big preview a while back. looks like they are aiming to hit bioshock type buttons, but with a measure of stealth and throat slitting.

it's basically the only thing i'm kinda interested in on release for consoles

is that the classic strat remake or the fps version? i heard they're making 2?

they share a website! it's confusing!
― thomp, Friday, 31 August 2012 22:40 (twelve years ago)
strategy remake is the one coming out in a month. i've got it pre-ordered, but i may waffle and cancel
― Nhex, Friday, 31 August 2012 22:40 (twelve years ago)
i watched the promo gameplay video for dishonored and i may be alone in this but i HATED the way it looked, all cartoony team fortress looking which is fine for TF but terrible for the game i think they are trying to make.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 1 September 2012 17:43 (twelve years ago)
TF is a bit of a stretch but they have definitely taken a stylized approach to the art for the game. personally i think that's one of the things i like best about what i have seen.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 September 2012 20:32 (twelve years ago)
I definitely will be checking it out.

all the reviews are like MOST MOVING EXPERIENCE IN A VIDEOGAME EVER but none of them say what the gameplay is
― goole, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:52 (twelve years ago)
it's kinda heavy rain style fast action events w/ some minor adventure puzzles broken down into 2-3 hour episodes - the cool part is that it forces a lot of irreversible choices w/out multiple saves so your decisions are permanent. the writing + voice acting is pretty great too.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:55 (twelve years ago)
I played the first episode of Walking Dead. That was plenty for me.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 15:01 (twelve years ago)
Gameplay is more-or-less minimalist adventure stuff. It's a great game.

i'd say first few volumes of walking dead comix > walking dead telltale game > walking dead television show > last few volumes of walking dead comix
