Console Wasteland

idk maybe its just me, but has anything really cool come out yet this year? normally i have an itchy trigger finger list of stuff ill grab the minute it does a price drop or goes used but so far this year i got nothing? anybody else feeling this?

Now I'm singing 'console wasteland' to the tune of The Who's 'Baba O'Riley'.

pretty much, i've only played xbox live stuff like trials and i am alive (and fez for minute, but i pretty much gave up on that).

how far did you get on fez? the intro part is sort of boring but once you get into the game proper it's pretty fun.

I really love Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. It's a little shallow but the different classes and weapons are pretty diverse. I stopped playing the single player campaign about 2/3 of the way through.

Only played a bit of Max Payne 3 but it seems like a well crafted game.

But yeah, good time to play games you missed from previous seasons.

I bought a bunch of stuff for my Vita, if that counts

btw, Virtua Tennis 4 is super easy and Rayman: Origins is BEAUTIFUL

i have rayman origins for the 360 and yeah its amazing, but i think the console version came out last year. wow do i love it tho.

i didn't get very far outside of the village, just past the first hub and i got stuck. i don't know if i have enough time to make it worthwhile, seems like it would be tough to play it in ~20 min bursts and remember where things are?

Yeah, I think I'm kind of done with consoles for the next few years at least. I'm getting ready to sell my 360 (btw if anyone wants one I'll give you a fair deal and ship it to you!) and probably my tv as well. Laptop's all I need.

lollipop chainsaw is a collab between suda 51 and the dude who wrote slither tho! its going to be awesome right until the point that i actually get it and play it and find out that the gameplay is terrible, but still, more exciting to me than any of the other stuff ive heard of.

StoryLollipop Chainsaw focuses on zombie hunter and cheerleader Juliet Starling (voiced by Tara Strong in English and Eri Kitamura/Yōko Hikasa in Japanese) who fights hordes of zombies in San Romero High School, which Starling formerly attended. Juliet's boyfriend Nick, a disembodied head hanging from her skirt, can be used for various purposes, including being kicked at enemies by Juliet or being put on the body of a decapitated zombie to control it.

all of that basically sounds terrible, like they literally took five other games and mashed them together to make Buffy The Zombie Slayer: The Video Game

(honestly I am not trying to dissuade you from your enthusiasm, mostly because I am 100% convinced the game will do that for me)

The Walking Dead game is actually really good if you like Telltale games.

as a dude who likes games most when they are a hot mess, this is pretty much gaming nirvana for me, esp since i expect it will be in the bargain bins within weeks of release xpost

oh word. i'm pretty sure i missed a key two early on that's preventing me from continuing on.

i'm hoping to play some big games this fall if they're decent, like Hitman/RE6/maybe Assassin's Creed 3 even though i gave up on 2.

man again today i have the itch to buy something new to play but man nothing springs to mind. is the witcher 2 (360 expando stuff humping edition or w/e) good or is it just the only thing that reviewers can even try to hype that came out this year?

they say that game is complex and involving. can i say, not really up your alley maybe?

i liked the 1st game on pc but hated playing 2 on xbox. the controls are weird and unresponsive and moving thru the menus via controller is a drag.

But also I don't really think the controls work on the console as well as they do on the pc.

I started playing civ5 on my computer again because there aint shit out.. only new things looking good on the horizon are borderlands 2 and xcom..

get dark souls it's the best game ever

worried abt xcom, not because of any fanboy whatever but because i read the mid stage game informer thing on it and it seemed a little aimless/look at all the cool shit we think we might be able to do to me.

i'm worried about it too, but what can you do. my computer ain't up to snuff so i'm hoping the console version isn't weak.

the great thing about no pause is that, even when you are in a spot where you are 99% sure no mobs will get to you, some asshole will probably invade your game and kill you while you're taking a piss.

also, you are pretty much certain to pick up your controller again and accidentally hit a back button that strafes your guy off a cliff, at least once

it kinda is? it introduces weird stakes into the game where you gotta play by its rules

yeah that's absolutely it, it is totally in keeping with the spirit of the game.

anyway, we've done this like eight times already; it's not for everybody.

i'm just playing, it sounds amazing and i wish it had existed when i was between the ages of 12 - 25 because i would have been obsessed with it. now i can't have nice things.

Still need a next-gen console, since there's enough gems from this one I havent tried yet.

The Steam Sale and Amazon deals got me good on PC Gaming for a while.

I have dark souls and I cant get into it.. I beat demons' souls too. I've basically been stuck in that first main area for an eternity and I got bored and went on with my life.

Anyone heard of this?

yeah, this is being hyped to the gills. game informer did a big preview a while back. looks like they are aiming to hit bioshock type buttons, but with a measure of stealth and throat slitting.

it's basically the only thing i'm kinda interested in on release for consoles

strategy remake is the one coming out in a month. i've got it pre-ordered, but i may waffle and cancel

i watched the promo gameplay video for dishonored and i may be alone in this but i HATED the way it looked, all cartoony team fortress looking which is fine for TF but terrible for the game i think they are trying to make.

TF is a bit of a stretch but they have definitely taken a stylized approach to the art for the game. personally i think that's one of the things i like best about what i have seen.

I definitely will be checking it out.

i don't mind the stylization! pretty psyched for that.

all the reviews are like MOST MOVING EXPERIENCE IN A VIDEOGAME EVER but none of them say what the gameplay is

it's kinda heavy rain style fast action events w/ some minor adventure puzzles broken down into 2-3 hour episodes - the cool part is that it forces a lot of irreversible choices w/out multiple saves so your decisions are permanent. the writing + voice acting is pretty great too.

I played the first episode of Walking Dead. That was plenty for me.

Gameplay is more-or-less minimalist adventure stuff. It's a great game.

Btw, if you're already cynically looking at a video game for trying to deliver an emotional experience... this is probably not for you. That said, TWD has definitely been working for me
