griefing & teamkilling

do you ever grief people?

I'm not proud but I sometimes derive quite a lot of enjoyment from griefing ppl online; especially ppl who are taking it all a bit too seriously

of course, if anybody griefs me I will pursue them to grief them back

and teamkilling, I will follow them around until I kill them back and if they leave the game before I've had chance, I will follow them across games

so... how about you? any good examples of griefing, do you gain sick satisfaction from it or is it just basically pretty immature stuff?

I've laughed so hard at myg0t videos on youtube, that I've thought I was going to be sick. Some griefers/teamkillers cd do w/dropping the racist trolling, that's pretty pathetic. Never encountered it 1st hand, just the odd prat using aimbots, or ppl getting all hissyfitty when I repeatedly headshot them (I'm a crap player otherwise so it's doubly insulting for them I guess) but most of the UT2004 servers I regularly use are adminned pretty strongly.

Also, the servers I use usually have friendly fire set to off.

Only if they deserve it. Having one asshole be KoS and ignoring the rest of the game is pretty sweet. And yeah, I have written players names down for revenge before.

I don't really know what either of these terms mean.

I'm a terrible pvper so I can't really do this very well.

Diablo 2 griefing was pretty funny. you'd zone in and 8 guys would massacre you before the screen loaded.

I don't grief or TK either, but I used to get this a lot. Especially on new maps because I'm much faster at learning the layouts than most people.

idiot: "you sniped me! that was cheap! you're always sniping people!"
me: "yeah sure, I sniped you with a shotgun"
idiot: "you must be holed up in a sniper position somewhere!"
me: "no, I just don't fucking stand still long enough to get shot"
idiot: "waaaah waaaah waaaah waaaaaaah" [etc., etc..]

I am that idiot : /

I am this idiot too; if I was playing against myself, I'd grief me

my gamertag shd be waaawaaawaaa

(is it true you can get to change your gamertag if enough ppl complain abt it? start filing complaints against cozeny ppl; I'm not stumping up the 800M$ points to change it)

the childish riffs and ridiculous arguments that stem from pvp gaming is something wonderful in it's own right. Even just two player gaming, not on line, brings out the worst in some people.

If you can laugh it all off, and never fully expect a serious game on a public server, you're having a great time.

(thinks, Goldeneye four-player-get-togethers. Messy times after enough beer had been quashed)

Ste, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 09:40 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, I remember a time a friend threatened to knife another friend over a four-player game of goldeneye

he then proceeded to rip the other friend's controller out the socket, and finish the game by hunting down his (now-still) character and killing him repeatedly

I love the trash talking in multiplayer, especially offline, but not so much the griefing.

Dy, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 10:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Although if someone went oddjob in goldeneye i'd hunt them down and kill them over and over because they were cheating bastards and deserved to die.

Dy, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 11:02 (fifteen years ago) link

FUCKIN' ODDJOB!

I've just realised, is this what they say on that gtaiv radio commercial?

"Watch! As the griefers battle the noobs..."

i am awful at video games, but good humoured about it; recently, during a few rare games of online GTA, my constant awfulness ends up just making me laugh. i sometimes feel bad though, in team games, that i am literally letting down the team.
